December 12, 2015 Reading "Design Basics" By Lauer and Pentak.

In the Winter time here in Maine, I love to read books on painting.
Right now I am reading a few books. The one I find most interesting is
a book entitled, "Design Basics" by David A. Lauer/Stephen Pentak. It
was an expensive book, 140$. I took a leap of faith it would be packed
full of information and it is!
I have also been drawing 4x5 inch drawings of Andrew Wyeth, Willard
Metcalf, and Aldro Hibbard paintings. I am studying the design of their
work. I am also learning about values and the sizes they choose. Above
is a tiny sketch I did of an Andrew Wyeth painting called, "Rocky Hill".
It sold at auction for 1,800,000$. This is what I do in my spare time when
I am not painting. I spend most of my time either painting or studying how
to be a better painter.

I do love Willard Metcalf's work. He painted in Maine 100 years ago.
I love his compositions.

Andrew Wyeth painted many dogs in his paintings. His son, Jamie Wyeth, also painted
many dogs. They are a great subject added to any landscape.

I have a very large sheet of copper on a new 40 inch capable Richeson table top easel!
The copper is size 30x40. I just wanted to see if this size copper would fit on this new easel.
The easel was on sale for 114$! It was a bargain.

I was admiring Jamie Wyeth's painting of a terrier. The dog's hair and
expression is wonderful. I was noticing the placement of the dog.

Sandy Point Beach was pretty again.

I need to decide on the subject for my next big painting! Have a great night!
