January 27, 2024 Post Office Lost A Painting. I Had To Repaint The Painting!

I have only lost two packages in 17 years from the US Post Office.  One shipment of

two paintings was lost in December.  I gave the art patron many options.  One option was

a full refund.  Another option was to select a new painting available on my website.  I asked

her if she would like a commission of any photo?  None of these options would work for her.

I had to repaint the painting.  This took over 40 hours to do.  The original painting took me

5 hours on location with three or four hours of studio work to complete.  But to repaint an existing

image exactly, every inch must be examined, and every brush stroke and color recreated.  What a

nightmare!  I just took my time.  I traced the original design. I drew this onto a new sanded copper

panel.  Then I started to work on an inch at a time.  I showed the art patron the results that she approved.

Then I had to let it dry, varnish it twice, frame it. I think I will ship it priority with insurance this time

through the post office. I put an address inside of the box so if it gets lost they can ship it back to me.

The other lost paintings are in a warehouse of undeliverable boxes.  That is sad.  There were two

paintings inside the lost box. One for 2500$ and another painting for 1050$.  I just have to move on from

that experience. I am grateful it rarely happens.  I sent a package to Robert through Fedex.  The package

arrived very very destroyed.  I will not use this service for my paintings.  It has been a great learning

experience!

Festus and Miss Kitty are very happy Florida has started to warm up

and the sun is out once again!  They spend most of their time in the screenroom.

They are very happy.  We continue to feed the homeless cat we nicknamed "Dillon"

fresh Costco chicken, his favorite!

Good night.

"The Shells Found At Sanibel Island" 8x12 Gouache paint on Yellow Acrylic Primed Birch wood.

I worked on this painting for straight 6 hours.  I was determined to paint my shells.

I liked the dry brush achieved using Gouache.  It was fun.

I varnished and repainted skies on many finished and sold paintings today.

"Monhegan Bell Memories" 8x10 oil on copper Sold today!  What a nice surprised.

I am very glad to sell this painting.  Thank you!

I really liked this photo of the Mucky Duck taken on Sanibel Island.

I took the day off yesterday and walked the beach.  Plants are planted and grass is growing.

Some hotels are still completely gone. There are a few large new mansions that have popped up.

I hear the Bubble Room Restaurant will be back open this Summer.  It was a very cold grey day

on Sanibel Island but I enjoyed it.  Good night.

January 13, 2024 Painted at Edison Ford Winter Estate Museum Today.

"Edison House" 8x12 Gouache on birch wood.  350$ unframed and includes shipping.

This one is under the Painting heading and then scroll down to see the Florida heading.

I had such a nice time today. It has been several months since October that I have plein air painted.

I enjoy my Mom's Florida paintings in my Pink trailer and at my parent's house. I was motivated to

paint Florida once again.  It is not important if they sell.  What is important is I get out to paint.

I feel much happier painting plein air.  I can work in my studio later in the evening.  The fresh air,

the environment, and talking with people is such a great thing!  The Gouache paint is much less expensive than

oil paint.  I can offer these paintings at a much lesser price.

I decided to show you the scene to compare it to the painting.

I omitted two palm trees directly in front of the house.  I moved around

a  few palms in the distance.

First I used a Cadmium Yellow acrylic paint to prime the birch wood panel.

I primed the wood twice.  I painted on the surface of the yellow acrylic.

I was delighted to discover I could wipe off the Gouache with a damp paper towel if

I did not like something I painted!  It wiped down to a clean yellow primed surface

once again!

I have everything ready for the Gouache Painting workshop tomorrow at the Edison

Ford Winter Estate Museum.  There will be 10 students.  I have prepared a limited Gouache

palette.  We will be using White, Black, Yellow, Red, and Blue.  I was able to paint the above

painting with the limited palette.  I will teach them how to mix colors, brush work, and do a demonstration.

I have prepared a lunch for the ladies with drinks.  I am excited to see how we all do!  I have donated food,

paint, brushes, and paper, and my time to the museum.

"Golden Bamboo" 16x12 Gouache On Board 550$ unframed and includes shipping.

Good night.

January 12, 2024 Stonington Lobster CO-OP Painting Oil On Copper To See!

"Stonington Lobster Co-op" 8x10 oil on copper 850$ framed in your choice of gold or black

with gold. Shipping and frame are included in the price.

I have been working on this painting in my studio for a few days.  I remember thinking the

light shimmering all around was really exciting.  There is a new building in it's place.  It

is larger and metal!  Many people recalled buying many lobsters from this place. Everyone

was very nice to them.  Lobsters are great in Maine!

The cats enjoyed fresh air before a rain storm.  We had two homeless cats

come to dine today.  Costco rotisserie chicken with Fussy Cat Salmon/Chicken dry food

is always on the menu for the homeless cats.  I am so surprised at my cat's reaction to

these cats. They are always hospitable to these cats.  They even help meow to let me know

they have 'friends' for dinner!  Then the looks on their faces when I give them big bowls of

food is priceless. They are so proud of me for feeding them!

I bought a year long pass to the Edison Ford Winter Estate Museum for 70$.  I walked all

around the properties.  The Purple and White flowers are called Today, Tomorrow, Yesterday I think.

I thought they looked great in the foreground.  I might paint this during my Gouache Workshop

Sunday if the weather is nice.  I have a sold out workshop!  I really could not believe it!  I am donating

my time to the museum.  They will make 350$ for my workshop.  Every little bit counts!  There are so many

nice things to paint here.  It felt good to get out!

Loved this photo as well!  They were very busy.  All kinds of flowering plants could be seen.

I loved all the different fragrances.  I am looking forward to visiting this place.  I am going

to paint there tomorrow. Hope the weather is good.

Good night!

January 7, 2024 A New Painting Of The Monhegan Bell to See!

"Monhegan Bell Memories" 8x10 oil on copper 850$  sold. Thanks.

I finally finished the bell!  What a challenge.  I was correcting the drawing with my very last

stroke!  I have a great fondness of this bell located on top of Monhegan Island. I spent an entire

day this last Summer painting two small studies of the bell.  I heard a great story from a 70 year old

man who claimed to see the bell moved from Manana Island's Coast Guard station that was shut down.

Oxen were used to bring the bell up the steep hill to the Lighthouse Museum for all to enjoy. In away

the bell is still serving a purpose.  I like that idea.

"Monhegan Bell View" 8x6 sold.  Here is one of the plein air paintings.

"Monhegan Bell At The Museum" 6x8 sold.  Another plein air.

It is very fun to do a series of the same subject.

One of the paintings I sold off my website, located in Maine, was shipped to me from Maine to

Florida.  The painting was lost by the Post Office.  We have tried so hard to find it.  I am going to

attempt to repaint the painting for the art patron.  She said her Mom had tears in her eyes when she

saw the painting on my website. It was purchased over a month ago. I overnighted a Florida sunset painting

to her as a Christmas gift as the painting was not in Florida yet.  Now I am going to see if I can repaint it

for them.  I sure hope I can do this.  If not then I will need to repay them 1050$.  I have the custom frame here,

a new piece of 10x13 copper, and so I will get to work!  I have only lost one painting back in 2007 by the Post

Office.  This package Robert sent had a larger 2500$ painting and the 1050$ painting the patron wanted.

I lost two paintings in this latest package.  In total that means I have lost 3 paintings total in 20 years.  I guess

that is not too bad.  I was a nervous wreck about this but now feel like repainting it is the best option!  I can do it.

Good night.
