April27, 2020 Painting In Progress! Sheets Drying On A Clothesline Painting! The Hat Thief!

Lily has always been a fun loving dog!  She loves to wear hats for photos.

She carries them around while making a yodeling sound.

We have always thought Lily was a fun girl!

Oh yes my profile is best!

Lily would like carry around the hat and yodel but her Daughter Lady Violet wants

in on the action!  Lady Violet likes to destroy things.

Lily spends a lot of time showing her teeth at Lady Violet.

The teeth showing has little effect!

While I was painting last night, I looked over to see Lady Violet, and discovered

her with a box she took from the kitchen!

I asked Lady Violet, "What do you have there?"

She had found an empty box of crackers.

She ate all the crumbs and tore the box up into little tiny pieces!

Ted and his dog Milo came to visit us.

They stayed clear of us for safety.

Milo is doing great.  Ted and Milo go for long walks away from people of course.

Milo loves Ted very much.

Sounds like Milo and Ted eat the same things.

Monet, Lady Violet, and Lily lined up.

Monet was barking for a piece of French baguette bread!

I am working on a 20x26 oil on copper painting of a white sheet, pillow slip, hanging by

Lake Alamosook.  Here is the process:  I drew out the composition idea.

I started to paint the sheets first.

This took me 8 hours total including the drawing.

I layer ed many different colors, softened them, and repainted them, over and over, until I liked it!

I wanted to capture the smooth quality of the sheet.

I also wanted to make sure I have the feeling of light on to the sheet, the translucent light of

the sheet, and the glow in the shadows.

Now I begin of the distant land and the birch tree branch.

The color of the deep blue makes the land look far away.

I was also working on the sheet still.

I used a plein air sketch to see what colors to use.

Here is that plein air sketch.  "White Sheets" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold. Shipping included.

"Spring Breeze" 14x20 oil on copper sold. Thanks.

The new painting will be more square instead of the panoramic shape.

I also changed the trees on the left.

There will be more sky showing.

Good night!

The dogs love Robert being home more because of the virus.

I enjoy having Robert around too!  We are doing fine.

Here are a few pranks Lady Violet did recently:

She likes to fill her mouth with water after drinking, then she walks over to a human, and lets the water

fall out of her mouth!  Shocking!  The first time she did this I could not believe it!

She likes to stand on her hind legs, put her paws on the kitchen sink, and clean dishes!

She loves to tear up the kitchen cleaning sponge!

She loves to bring tissues in the bathroom trash can downstairs.

She brings sticks inside the house to tear up!

She brings Robert's chewed up books to me to see.

The last book of Robert's she chewed up was a book on "Yurts".

I am glad she knows not to tear up my art books!

She still loves to steal clothing from my bedroom and bring them outside.

She sleeps on her back.

She loves to shower Monet with kisses when he growls.

She loves to ignore calls to come inside.

At night, most of the time it is 1am, below zero temperatures, she stands behind the dog house.

She will not come inside until I chase her around!  Then she comes inside willingly.

There was high winds at Lake Alamoosook lake yesterday.

The sheets I hung on my make shift clothesline flew horizontally!

An elderly man who was walking his dog came over, admired the laundry hanging in

the park, and said, "Wow!  I thought someone was doing their laundry!"

We both laughed. I told him I was trying to get photos to paint.

Good night.

April 16, 2020 Black Watercolor Paper Paintings of Flowers. Lady Violet's Easter Bunny.

"Black Paper Tulips" 7x5 white gel ink, Fine Tec pearlescent watercolors, Daniel Smith watercolors on

Stonehenge watercolor paper.  Sold.

I was busy last night creating these reverse watercolors.

They are unique.

It takes me a while to create these little watercolors.

"Black Paper Daffodils" 7x5 sold.  Thanks!

"Black Paper Wild Flowers" 7x5 sold.  Thank you.

Some of the watercolors are translucent but some are opaque.

When Robert goes to bed Lady Violet searches for ways to be naughty!

She likes to tear up things.  She puts her feet on counters to see what needs shredding!

Sometimes I am painting but then I hear the familiar noises!

Should I tear up this roman shade?  This made me laugh at loud!

I told her, "No!" Monet came running to my chair and threw himself on my lap!

He gets anxious when I say, "No!"  Poor boy.  I try to whisper it but Monet still worries for her.

I never even do anything but somehow Monet is a mess!

I console Monet while I keep an eye on Lady Violet!

Very fun.

The Easter bunny came to our house.

Monet loves her so much.  He has changed the program with all new toys.

He once stockpiled all new toys in his bed for 24 hours before any other dog could play.

Now Lady Violet is allowed to play with any toy.

We get a kick out of the new toys just as much as the dogs!

What will they do?  It is so much fun watching Monet collect the toys.

Lady Violet absconding with toys!  Lady Violet mimicking Monet stockpiling toys in her bed.

The shredding up of these toys can be funny.

Thank you Robert for creating a nice place to sit inside the dog playground in our backyard.

I hope to get outside to paint somewhere tomorrow!

These watercolors are all posted as they are completed above under the heading

:  Paintings, then look for watercolors.  Thank you.

Good night!

April 12, 2020 Happy Easter! Photos of Our Easter In Maine.

Happy Easter from all of us!

This is my big boy Monet.

He is 6 1/2 years old.  He loves to sit on my lap.

He wags his tail when I hug him.

I am very grateful for this Easter feast!

I made deviled eggs and 1905 Columbia Restaurant salad recipe.

Here is the recipe.  I substitute fresh lemon juice for the vinegar.

I add celery and red peppers and fruits too.

https://www.columbiarestaurant.com/The-Columbia-Experience/Recipes/1905-Salad

I keep the salad dressing separate to keep the lettuces crisp.

We can have salad for 4 days this way.

It is a very satisfying salad.

Lady Violet is happiest when she has something to chew!

I was surprised to see her chewing on a real chewy toy!

What a good girl.

You can see all the freshly chewed sticks and brown paper she shredded.

I can not tell these two apart!  On the left is Grandmother Poppy and on the right is Lady Violet!

They look identical.

Lady Violet favors Robert.  She thinks he is the most wonderful person.

She loves me too but Robert..now she thinks he is her person.

Two days ago we had a snow storm.

Robert was outside playing with the dogs.

He doesn't mind snow.

I think it is very beautiful.

"Golden Carnation" 7x5 ink, daniel smith watercolors, Tec Fine pearescent gold watercolor on

April 9, 2020 Went To Mount Desert Island to Paint At Seawall!

"Seawall" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold.  Shipping included in the price.

I had an excellent day on Mount Desert Island.  I chose to paint at the Seawall.

Many people come here to enjoy the ocean.  I sat inside my van to keep safe from the virus.

I had a great view parked on the rocks.

Two seagulls posed for me so I painted them into the painting.

They were enjoying themselves.

Then a couple came on the beach!  I painted them into the painting.

There was a flock of seagulls on the rocks.  I painted them too!

The surf was fun to paint.  I enjoyed painting the rocks.

The scene was just beautiful!

You can see the two seagulls.

I visited my friend's little farm.  She has a new goat.  She also has a new miniature horse.

It was nice to see her older horse has company now.

They looked happy.

It was nice getting out of the house.

Robert has been taking two dogs at a time for a outing.

Lady Violet was very good yesterday.

Have a good night.

April 7, 2020 Lake Laundry Painting To See. Lady Violet Destroys An Electrical Cord To Heater!

"Country Line Dancing" 14x20 oil on copper 950$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping is included in the price.

I worked on this painting for a few days.

That is my favorite pink shirt!

It was important to capture the translucent quality of the shirt.

The lightest lights were on the water and in the sky.

I used a finger to place a few strategic highlights.

The paint is thicker.  The colors are not mixed as much.

I used a brush to soften a few edges of this finger placed spots.

I always had difficulty getting a bright white with a tad of cadmium yellow light in my

sunlight highlight areas.

Do you think Lady Violet looks a little guilty in this photo?

She chewed the plug off our oil filled radiator heater!

Robert said he was happy she did this as the heater is expensive to operate.

I was disappointed because it is difficult to paint when the studio gets cold.

I told Lady Violet, "Time Out for you!"  She walked to the kitchen.

I closed the Dutch door so she would be in "Time Out".

She looked at me with acknowledgement.

She took a nap for a half an hour.  Then I let her out again.

I brought down another heater from upstairs.

She watched me as I plugged it into the wall.

I am glad she doesn't chew on electrical cords that are plugged into the wall.

I turned on the Dog TV channel for her.

She loves to watch!

I gave them all a chewy chip.  Monet stole Lady Violet's chew.

Lady Violet barked!

I think she called Monet a few names too.

Lady Violet very slowly took back her chew!  Monet pretended not to notice.

She ate her chew and then fell asleep.

She is so cute.

She keeps us all on our toes!

Good night.

Craig's Pond today.

April 4, 2020 Decided To Hang My Favorite Pink Shirt, Jeans, Sheets On The Clothesline To Paint!

"Under The Thuya Tree" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold. Shipping is

included in the price.

The sun was shinning today in Maine!

I packed up my favorite pink dress shirt, my jeans, socks, and white sheet.

I drove to Alamoosook Lake to hang my laundry on a clothesline to paint!

I chose the Thuya trees this time.

Thuya is latin for Cedar.   The light  was great on the lake!

I sat on the picnic bench to paint.  What a beautiful day!

I will paint more at this lake.  It is a great place to paint.

Two ducks came by to watch.

Lady Violet was at home entertaining herself!

She found some brown wrapping paper to tear up.

Then she went upstairs to the bathroom to pilfer through the trash.

I found pieces of dental floss draped down the stairs.

There were chunks of precious toilet paper here and there.

She is a very busy girl!

"Black Paper Rose" 7x5 white ink, metallic watercolor, white watercolor, on black watercolor paper.

Comes with a white envelope to give as a card or can be framed as a painting.  Free shipping.  Sold.  Thanks.

This is a new type of watercolor painting for me.

They call this reverse watercolor painting on black paper.

The watercolor is very shimmery.  When you tilt the painting there are different colors shinning.

It is fun to try new things.

Monet is enjoying his new Beautyrest dog bed.

Good night.

April 3, 2020 Fresh Laundry Hanging By Lake Alamoosook Painting To See! Oh My Lady Violet!

"Kissed By The Sun" 14x20 oil on copper Sold.  Thank you.

I woke up this afternoon to find my new oil on copper painting sold.

Thank heavens!  I am so grateful for the support of my friends.

It took me a few weeks to find myself relaxed enough to create a new oil painting.

The watercolors I have been doing are meditative but are not the same as my oils.

The oils seem to take a lot more energy to complete.

I chose a scene unintentionally full of hope.

The bare birch trees look stark against the beautiful lake filled with light.

The laundry seem hopeful to dry.

I am pleased someone else thought my painting was good enough to have in their home.

I think we will see more paintings done by artists during this time with a similar feeling.

I gave up on my compartmentalized wall of flowers in a refrigerated case.

I admired the image but I didn't like the feeling.

I abandoned that painting.

"Blooming Perfectly" 7x5 winsor newton watercolors on strathmore hot press paper. 30$ free shipping.

My pink roses are looking so nice!

I really enjoy drawing and painting them from life.

I think I might be getting the hang of painting roses.

These watercolors are all located under the painting heading above this page and in the watercolor section.

"Rose Bloom" 7x5 ink with watercolor 30$

Lily likes to chew on her raw hide chip very very slowly to torture Lady Violet.

Lady Violet, Monet, and Poppy finish chewing fast.

There is a lot of loud barks from Lady Violet while Lily is enjoying her chew.

I let this go on for about an hour before I give all the dogs a new chew!

Lady Violet likes to sleep on her back!  Her great grandfather Luke always slept on his back.

I think Lady Violet must take after her Father Sampson who I never really knew.

How is Lady Violet handling the Maine mud season?

Well ! She is not handling mud very well!

She does not like to have dirty muddy feet!

She washes her front feet and muzzle in the water bowl three times a day!

Monet is not very happy about having dirty water to drink.

He stands by the water bowl barking!

I change the water bowl.  Monet is happy.

We will work through this!

Good night.  Stay safe.
