"Black Mountain Farm" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping is included in the price.

I discovered through a friend the name of the farm.

The Black Mountain Farm is owned by the Sweet family.

I drove all over Fletcher today.

The cows looked up with curiousity when I stopped the van to admire them.

   This cow was magnificient.

   How beautiful you ladies are!

View coming into Jeffersonville, Vermont.

   skiing area

Here is the other view to get into Jeffersonville.

We are all having a good time.

We talk a lot when we are all back at the house after painting.

They were criticing each other's painting tonight.

Very minor things needed to be corrected.

It was very cold to be painting outside.

I admire all the work they have started.

They will work later in their studios to finish the paintings.

Good night!

October 29, 2018 Painted Bryce Farm and a Victorian Porch in Jeffersonville, Vermont.

"Vermont Milking Time" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold.
Shipping is included in the price.

   I loved the dramatic landscape.

I found a muddy spot next to a manure holding place.

The windows of my van were up.

I didn't smell anything wierd.

The view was great!

It started to rain, but since I was high and dry, I continued to paint.

I just had to work the windshield wipers once in a while.

"Jeffersonville, Vermont Main Street" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold.
Shipping included.

This is the view of the house's porch where we are staying.

I was painting comfortably inside the van!

It was sprinkling and chilly but the van was nice!

There is something inviting about a victorian porch.

I don't ever remember painting autumn leaves before.

I think this could be my first real autumn painting.

   This cow made me laugh.

The farmer lady was laughing while she sat on her tractor.

I didn't know cows did funny things.

Here are a few scenes I saw while driving around.

We are all sitting at the table wishing our friend Stapleton Keans was here.

Everyone says, "Hello Stapleton!"

Get well soon!

Everyone is happy with their work today.

Tonight it is snowing.

We are all excited about painting snow tomorrow!

Both puppy sitters, Bruce and Ted, happened to be at my house at the same time.
The dogs almost caught a Canadian goose!

Good night.

October 28, 2018 Discovered a Snowy Pumpkin Field on My Drive To Jeffersonville, Vermont!

I was driving to Jeffersonville, Vermont when I discovered pumpkins in Bethel, Maine!

I asked permission to climb into the pumpkin field!

What a beautiful scene.

I hope to paint this scene soon big on copper!

Very excited to see this scene!

I took many photos.

Just loved it.

I tried not to stop the van too often to take photos.

This house was so interesting!

I was in Bryant Pond, Maine.

There were beautiful tamarak trees along the way!

   Vermont was really atmospheric.

I arrived safely in Jeffersonville, Vermont.

We are all staying in a beautiful two story victorian on Main Street.

Three artists have arrived.

One artist described meeting Andrew Wyeth twice.

Bernard Corey was another subject of conversation.

They have all been painters for more than 30 years.

They have so much experience with galleries, shows, clients, and painting.

I have only been working as a painter for about 8 years now.

I have a long ways to go!

I am sad Stapleton Kearns will not be joining us during this trip.

I will continue to pray for his full recovery.

I spent an hour this morning with my goldens after my van was packed.

It was the most difficult thing to leave the dogs behind.

Robert said to bring tick repellent last night before he went to sleep.

I wish Robert could see Vermont.

He would love Vermont.

Good night.

October 27, 2018 Love Fest For Golden Retrievers.

Ted's morning visits are most appreciated.

He likes to get on the floor to hug and pet the goldens.

Lily and Monet crawled into Ted's lap!

Lily was trying to get all the attention.

There is enough love to go around between three golden retrievers!

Poppy is an introvert.

She does give Ted a few bumps on his face then will take off!

I find myself laughing while watching Ted with the dogs.

Who wouldn't?

They are so funny.

   Monet is a mess!

Laying on his back getting his chest rubbed is his favorite thing in the world!

Happiness...

Ted reminded me to buy more apples from the orchard for the dogs!

I bought three huge bags of courtland apples.

The dogs recognized these bags and followed me to the kitchen.

I put a hole in one the bag so that Lily can hand out apples to all.

It is their ritual to eat apples one to two hours after dinner.

Today they decided to have an apple feast.

They each eat one or two apples but I have seen Monet eat four once.

Monet learned four apples may give him sour apple stomach.

He moaned a little after eating four.

I think apples are healthy for dogs.

They seem to spit out the apple seeds.

Monet didn't finish his second apple.

They were much larger than the last batch of apples.

He was admiring Lily's apple.

He guarded this half eaten apple for several hours growling and showing his teeth

at any dog who walked by.

This is just a game.

He will give up any apple to Lily or Poppy.

He did scare Lily today.

He growled and launched out at Lily when she was walking by.

She leaped into my lap shaking like a leaf!

Robert came home and petted the dogs for an hour.

It is 40 degrees and raining!

Robert is always faithful to take all the dogs to the beach despite weather conditions!

They came back soak and wet and hungry.

The van is packed for my trip.

Ted and Bruce will look after the dogs during the weekdays while Robert works.

I decided to take all of my paintings.

If by any chance someone purchases a painting, I will have it with me to frame, and ship!

Good night!

October 26, 2018 Ted Brings A Rottiserie Chicken For My Golden Retrievers.

Ted brought a fresh rottiserie chicken for my dogs today.

The dogs shared the whole chicken piece by piece!

When Ted comes over to visit my dogs, I unlock the door, and let the dogs outside.

Yesterday Ted took all three goldens to the beach!

Today I looked outside to find him with a chicken!

I looked to see two dogs and asked him where is Lily?

 Then I saw Lily.

Lily was behind Ted in the best location!

Lily is an assertive dog.

She has no fear of putting her feet on the table.

Monet took a chunk of Ted's thumb off during that last bite!

Ted howled in pain.

He told Monet to be easy on him!

After consuming the entire chicken, the dogs were brushed for a long time, and

then they started to play!

Monet took to his bed.

Lily came over to snuggle with Monet.

They ended up playing the alligator game.

Ted was trying to brush Monet but Lily likes to play.

I had a fun time watching all the action.

They are characters.

Now they are all taking a nap except Monet who is whimpering for me to pet him!

I loved the light and character of this old house.

My eye infection is almost gone!

I have rested these last few days.

I am packing for Vermont and Florida.

I will leave Oct 28th.

I will miss my family and friends here in Maine.

I am looking foward to this adventure!

Good night.

October 23, 2018 I Really Like Pierre Bonnard, French Artist's Paintings.

When I am not painting, I love to look at other artist's paintings,

and read about their lives.

Tonight I was admiring a French artist named Pierre Bonnard.

I was reading an article written by Ben Luke about an exhibit

planned in January 2019 in the Tate Modern, Britain.

I wish I could see his works in person.

I love the painting of the cat above.

I especially like how he distorted the cat and gave it much character.

He painted from photos, drawings, or notes.

He rarely painted from life.

It is important for me to notice what it is that draws me to Bonnard's work.

I like the animals, warm colors, compositions, and close range subjects.

I like the fact there is a story happening.  What is it?

I love the checkered designs often shown in his paintings.

This is a self portait of Pierre Bonnard.

He was noted to be a shy recuse.

Picasso stated, "That is not painting!  Not modern!"

Mattise admired Bonnard, after Bonnard's death, Mattise stated Bonnard was a great modern painter.

Bonnard is known for his colorful and subtle transitioned brushwork.

I have no idea what subtle transitioned brushwork means!

I will try to find out.

(UPDATE)   This means when the artist is blending two or more different colors or values to

create a gradual soft look.

Bonnard bought a yellow renault car as early as 1912.

He said, "One can not have enough yellow"

I have heard many artists say this about paintings.

I love how emotional Pierre Bonnard painted.

I also liked how he changed perspective and distorted subjects.

This is a photograph of Pierre Bonnard.

He looks like a quiet man unlike his bold colorful paintings.

Letters between Mattise and Bonnard during WWII described being low on fuel, food, and art supplies.

   An older self portrait.

Good night.

October 21, 2018 Went To Port Clyde, Cushing, Rockport, Maine Taking Photos.

I took my painter friend out to take photos.

We had a great time discovering things to paint!

Belted Galloways are very popular in Rockport, Maine.

   Temperatures were in the 40's.

We saw turkeys!

We found the Olsen house, painted frequently by Andrew Wyeth, and saw a green orb!

See the green orb on the right?

The Olson's house has so much character.

The weather was brutal at Marshall Point Lighthouse!

Cold winds!

The light was so amazing.

   Have a good night!

October 19, 2018 Working On A Row Boat with Golden Rod Painting. Dogs Like Pears.

This was on my easel yesterday!

The painting is a 14x20 oil on copper.

I plan to paint golden rod surrounding the boat.

Lily was laying on my lap behind Monet.

They were keeping me company!

My eye is about the same as it was the other day.

I am not sure if my dogs know about my eye.

Robert was combing Lily, searching for ticks, after a vigorous hike!

I thought they were cute.

Rose Geranium oil is helpful for keeping ticks off the dogs.

My goldens enjoy a ripe pear in between breakfast and dinner.

Sometimes they eat a few apples.

Lily took her time eating her pear.

She cleaned both of her feet afterwards.

Lily sometimes steals Monet's apple.

Monet has taught her to not look at his apple.

He growls if she looks over at the apple.

   Robert is cooking Mulligan Stew!

My favorite dish!

Good night.

October 18, 2018 Finished With The Grisaille Large Oil on Copper Pumpkin Painting.

I am going to call this painting "Fifty Pumpkins" 20x26 oil on copper.

I have tried to count these pumpkins many times.

I come up with different numbers everytime I count!

I took the average of my counts.

Fifty pumpkins it is!

Painting a large painting in grey values is very relaxing for some reason.

It is like tackling a huge puzzle!

I can't wait to see the pumpkins in color.

I hope this painting will glow like the last pumpkin painting.

I have been dealing with an eyelash infection!

The doctor gave me eye antibiotics.

This morning I woke up with my eye completely shut!

I hope it heals up soon.

Poppy is the only one who notices my eye.

She gave me six kisses this morning.

She is just happy her Robert is home.

He has been taking them out on daily adventures to Mount Desert Island,

Sears Island, and walking in the woods by Craigs Pond.

I am taking a short break from painting.

I only have really one good eye to see with!

Good night.

October 16, 2018 Working On A Large Oil on Copper Painting of Fifty Pumpkins. Stonington, Maine Photos.

I just finished the grey value underpainting in oil for this 20x26.

I drove back to the pumpkin/veggie farm stand.

I rearranged the pumpkins to my liking.

I found some of the more unusual shaped pumpkins to pose.

I liked their shadows on the ground and on the other pumpkins.

I am amazed all all the different shapes of the pumpkins.

I love the color of pumpkins best.

Orange looks great in paintings!

They have such a lively look.  They are so full of vitality!

"Pumpkin Shadows" 14x20 oil on copper sold a few weeks ago.  Thank you.

When I framed this painting, I hung it on the wall, and admired it for a few minutes.

This is probably the most favorite of my paintings done this last few years.

It glowed in it's gold frame on the wall.

Yes, I liked it very much.

I suppose I am fond of all the paintings created or I would scrape them off.

But I really loved this one.

Some artists dislike all their work.

They dislike other artist's work even more!

I like almost everyone's work and my work too.

I think this has to do with a postive outlook.

Being postive is a good thing.

  Mr. Monet amazed us tonight!

A police siren was heard as it passed by our house.

Monet lifted his head to the ceiling and let out a minute long howl!

He did another howl when the second police car with siren blarring passed by our house.

We told Monet he was such a good boy!

We petted him.

Monet wagged his tail!

I gave him a treat!

That was an amazing thing to hear!

He sounded like a wolf!

Even Lily came over to Monet to see what he was doing.

Here are a few photos from my trip to Stonington the other day.

Robert has this week off from work.

We went to the Farnsworth Museum!

I was inspired to see many great Wyeth paintings!

I admired many works shown there.

Good night.

October 14, 2018 Saw Beautiful Deers Eating Apples in Little Deer Isle, Maine.

I backed the van up slowly, turned off the music, rolled down the window, and took these photos!

The deer were feasting on beautiful apples.

Maine winters are long and harsh.

They need all the apples they can eat.

   This deer looked very healthy.

The Dutch man who planted the dahlias each year has passed away.

I asked permission to take photos of the yellow house.

His widow told me of her husband's passing.

He was such a kind man who grew dahlias for artists to paint in front of the yellow house.

They live in the blue house on the right.

People think the dahlias are owned by the yellow house owner.

It isn't true.

The blue house people own the land in front of the yellow house.

Once the Dutch man told me without flowers in the foreground the yellow house

would not be as pretty to paint.

Many times I talked with him while I painted or took photos.

I was sad about the news.

I offered to help plant the dahlias next year with his widow.

Catepillar Hill is looking very nice.

I can see catepillar shapes.

You have to squint your eyes to imagine them.

Next week, I am off to Vermont to paint with 6 Boston Guild Painters.

There are a 3 non Boston Guild Painters invited to paint as well.

They rented a large house in Jeffersonville, Vermont.

I am looking forward to this trip.

I find it inspiring to paint with other artists.

"Stonington Lilacs" 14x20 oil on copper 950$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping is included.

Just finished this one.

I have been working on this painting since this last Spring.

Glad it is finally done!

Good night.

October 11, 2018 Florence Griswold Museum Artist Palette Is Finished!

I am honored to have been invited to paint a palette for Florence Griswold Museum.

The Museum is located at 96 Lyme Street, Old Lyme, Connecticut.

Miss Florence opened her home to artists over a century ago.

Impressionist like Willard Metcalf and Childe Hassam and many others came

to Connecticut to escape New England winters.

In the dining room of Miss Florence home are wonderful paintings by these

artists painted on wooden panels.  There are no spaces in between these paintings.

They literally line the walls.

The house is open for all to visit as well as a museum.

Tonalists also stayed at her home.

On the wall is a sign stating, "Do not varnish paintings"

or something to that affect.

The tonalists did varnish their works and the impressionists works.

The impressionists did not want their work varnished while they were sleeping

by the tonalists!

When I visited the museum stories were told about the impressionists working

outside during the day and partying at night.

The tonalists played tennis, swam, and at night they painted!

Every year several contempory artists are invited to paint on a palette sent to them.

These painted palettes are hung on 12 foot Christmas trees as a nod to

Miss Florence.

Miss Florence was born on Christmas Day in 1850.

I imagine she would be delighted a tradition of painting on palettes exists.

Monet had all the new toys gathered up around him.

When Monet went to sleep, Lily confiscated all the toys, and she played with them!

Lily was squeaking the bunny, hopping up and down, looking over to see if Monet was awake!

I saw Monet's eye open just a little.

He knew what his daughter Lily was doing!

It was a rainy day in Maine.

The dogs played inside the house.

Lily was enjoying the new tan doggy toy.

Monet had a lot to say about this!

Monet was squeaking the bunny while the girls played together with the tan dog!

Lily found a new pair of socks in my room!

She was hoping I would notice!

Lily was walking around with the socks for over an hour.

She was showing Monet, Poppy, Robert, and I what she found.

Wagging her tail very proud with the socks in her mouth.

   It is very beautiful outside!

Good night.

October 10, 2018 Reworked A Sunflower Painting. To The Lake!

"Good Night Sunflowers" 14x11 oil on copper 550$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping is included in the price.

I reworked the background, window, and mason jar.

There was too much going on with the background.

I didn't like the disturbing colors in the window.

I thought the window needed to be simplified.

I do not think the lines were connecting behind the jar.

Now I think the sunflowers look pleasant in their surroundings.

Here is the painting before the changes to compare.

This afternoon, I had the dogs in my van, we were at the end of our driveway

waiting to get onto Route 1.

There was Ted in his car!

I pointed to the right, he let us cut in front of him, and he followed us to the lake!

Monet was the most excited to see his friend Ted.

Oh how Monet just loves his Ted!

Monet hops up and down and cries when he sees Ted.

Ted was trying to get the ball from Monet to throw.

Monet was playing hard to get.

Ted was talking very sweet to Monet.

Monet was wagging his tail.

He loved the attention.

I gave all three golden retrievers a bath!

I feel like I deserve an award for doing this!

I put the clean towels on their backs.

I thought they looked cute.

Poppy took off running!

What is up with that dog?

Poppy came back to have a towel drapped on her back.

She didn't want to miss out on the fun!

Two new bunny toys were purchased!

There was also a tan dog toy, two floating frisbees, and 5 super absorbant dog towels!

Lily decided to take the new bunny to the beach with Robert, Monet, and Poppy!

Robert said he would make sure the bunny came home.

Off Lily went with her new bunny to the beach!

"Moonlight" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipping is free.

I was going to toss out this older painting.

Instead I decided to rework the painting.

It looks very creepy just like a October night here in Maine.

Good night.

October 9, 2018 Golden Retrievers Having Fun.

Poppy decided to hunker down when she saw a golden retriever in the distance.

She thought she would not be seen by the golden.

She was going to spring up and surprise her!

Monet and Lily ran to greet her.

Poppy was still trying to do the surprise attack.

They know this golden well.

She is very young and lots of fun.

  They played hard.

The birch tree has a few leaves changing to gold.

I keep the back door open for my dogs to enjoy the sunshine.

We have a very small deck upstairs for them to hang out in the sun.

They like to watch squirrels.

Robert took them back to the beach after he came home from work.

He loves to walk them at sunset.

Poppy is dining on "Mulligan Stew".

They were listening to Robert talk to them.

I am trying to decide what to decide what to paint next!

Good night.

October 7, 2018 Finished Tremont Harbor Lobster Boat Painting.

"What A Catch!" 14x20 oil on copper 950$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping is included in the price.

Tonight I finished the lobsterboat from Tremont Harbor on Mount Desert Island.

It is gratifying to finish a painting.

I have a basket of utility apples I was going to paint.

I set this basket on the floor.

I thought the dogs would help themselves to an apple.

I discovered Lily is the apple queen.

She takes apples from the basket to eat.

Monet stands next to the basket and barks.

Lily takes an apple from the basket and drops it at Monet's feet.

Monet eats the apple then returns to the basket to bark for another one!

Poppy steals apples from Lily.

They eat three small apples each a day.

My basket of apples in getting low!

October 5, 2018 Working On A Night Time Sunflower Painting.

"Good Night Sunflowers" 14x11 oil on copper.  550$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping is included.

I decided to simplify the window.

Now it is finished!

Here is the image after working for a few days!

Sunflowers make me feel happy!

11x14 oil on copper.

I will take a better photo tomorrow morning.

We all sat in the sun today!

My dogs even appreciated the sun!

Monet is doing great eating only Mulligan Stew.

He is loosing weight.

He prances around.

He is feeling good.

Lily climbed onto a washed up old Maple tree.

Lily jumped off the tree.

Then Poppy took her place.

They seemed to be posing for photos!

We met Little Man, a jack russel, and Max, a 13 year old golden retriever.

Funny but we did not hear what the little girl's name was!

We thought Max the golden looked a lot like Luke.

Monet liked Little Man, jack russel terrier so much!

Monet cleaned his ears.

  This is Mulligan Stew.

The dogs and Robert and I have been eating Mulligan Stew for a few weeks now.

Mulligan Stew contains two meats and ten vegetables, tumeric, ground mustard, and

coconut oil.

I feel really good after eating Mulligan Stew.

Here is the recipe again:

Mulligan Stew

2 packages of 85% ground turkey

1 package of ground pork or hamburger

2 frozen packages of italian vegetable mix (greenbeans, lima beans, zuccini, carrots, broccoli, califlower)

1 can of red kidney beans

1 small can of diced tomatoes

2 peeled diced white potatoes.

1 teaspoon of ground mustard

1 tablespoon of ground tumeric

3 tablespoons of coconut oil

2 cans of water

I added a big bag of green peas to this batch!  Picture shown above.

Make sure to remove the piece of plastic under the ground turkey inside the package.

Saute the meats in coconut oil and spices in large pan.

Add rest of the ingredients to large pan.

Simmer, stir occasionally.

I have been giving each golden retriever 2 cups of Mulligan Stew for breakfast and dinner.

No other food is necessary.

They lick their chops, their eyes are big, and they like for me to wipe their chins after eating.

They feel more energetic.

I make two of these Mulligan Stews at one time.

It costs 30$ total for double recipe of Mulligan Stew, so only 15$ for one recipe above.

It lasts the dogs 4 days.

This also feeds Robert and I at least five meals!

Good night.

October 4, 2018 Fall Color In Maine. Lily Is a Character.

This is how Lily looks after spending a few hours at the lake.

Her Mom and Dad are already loaded into the van.

Lily stands by the lake unwilling to get into the van.

Poppy and Monet wait for her.

At least once Poppy and Monet jump out of the van, run a lap around Lily, and

head back to the van!

I always laugh when Lily doesn't want to leave the lake.

I walk up to Lily, she runs to the van, and then we go!

This is our standard way of leaving the beach or lake.

I love this about Lily.

She is independent.

We were taking a break from ball retrieving and rock hunting.

   Lily retrieved two balls!

She stood guard for a few minutes while Poppy looked on.

They were back to playing after Lily decided to give her back her ball.

There are Fall colors now in Maine!

I am enjoying taking a break from painting!

Good night.

October 2, 2018 Robert Plants 1000 Tulips! Battles Squirrel! Lily Loves Ripe Pears.

Robert has been planting 1000 tulip bulbs in our yard.

He was inspired by the visit to Holland to see the Keukenhof!

Next Spring our yard will resemble the Keukenhof in Bucksport, Maine.

   Robert took a short break.

From the kitchen Robert saw a squirrel digging up a tulip bulb.

Robert grabbed a broom, chased down the squirrel, and did battle with a squirrel!

The squirrel was chattering in the tree while Robert came home with his broom.

He went to the tulp painting area to inspect the damage.

He showed me a hole where the squirrel was digging.

He put down nets and fencing to cover the bulbs.

The next day three bulbs were missing.

I told Robert the squirrel was full after eating three bulbs.

I love having visitors at the house/gallery.

We entertained the first visitor.

Lot of laughs.

What does Lily have there?

Whatever it was, she took it from the table, and ran around showing her Mom and Dad.

I grabbed Lily to inspect her treasure.

It was a ripe pear!

Lily has been stealing and eating all the ripe pears!

I was wondering who was doing this?

Lily took one pear and escaped outside today to eat it!

Lily was very proud of her ripe pear.

She was wagging her tail.

Monet was growling and yipping.

He wanted a pear.

Lily stole a small plastic box from the framing area.

The second visitor enjoyed seeing Lily run around, wagging her tail, showing off her box!

I had to catch Lily to make sure it was safe.

The plastic box was empty.

Then Lily showed our guest how she sits in my lap.

The guest thought Lily was very cute.

She enjoyed the dogs and loved seeing paintings everywhere.

She found a few more paintings to add to her collection.

Thanks for the visit!
