June 25, 2023 Painted Fog at Stonington, Maine's Sand Beach!

"Socked In At Sand Beach" 8x10 oil on copper 750$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping and frame are included.

I have been eating a lot of Greek salad.  Robert is a fabulous Greek salad maker.  He puts

real tiny Greek pasta in his salad with lots of parsley from the garden, tomatoes, peppers, celery,

Greek olives, lemon, olive oil, Feta Cheese.  It is very good.  I felt very energetic today. I

have to give credit where credit is due..to the Greek salad for many days in a row.  I drove to Stonington, Maine

even though I had heard from the grapevine that it was foggy.  Bucksport was sunny but I went to

Stonington to paint fog.  Fog is a very fun thing to paint.  Sometimes the whole scene is fogged.  You

see nothing but fog.  Other times magically the scene is revealed because the fog is lifted!

Here are a few photos of Stonington fogged in.  Lupines!

I have always admired this cute cape.

I always take a photo of the church in the center of town.  I think I will paint it someday.

I just keep trying to discover the best light, weather, time of year to make it look it's best.

The Lupines are going to seed.

As soon as I reached Deer Isle the fog was gone.  They had a nice sunset at the lighthouse.

Good night.

I finished these paintings.  The weather was finally gorgeous in Maine after 2 weeks of gloom

and rain!  Here are a few photos. The light was great.

I bought four dried pig ears for the dogs to chew on.  They each loved it!

The cats received a few catnip pillows and a few toys.  Festus played with a few toys for

a half an hour.  He fell asleep. Miss Kitty played too.  She had a good time.

Good night.

"The Heritage Arrives In Stonington Harbor" 8x10 oil on copper. Sold.

These are three harbor paintings I did this last week.  They are very complicated difficult

paintings to do.  They really do feel like Stonington.  I am very grateful for the recent

painting sales.  I decided not to go to Sugar Hill Inn, NH to paint.  I am too busy here.

I want to save my money to pay for food.  Travel is expensive, things add up, and I need to

be smart!

Good night!

June 15, 2023 Ticks While Painting Is An Issue! Painted on Little Deer Isle Today.

"Spring Glory at Little Deer Isle" 8x10 oil on copper 750$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping and frame are included.

Last night as I had settled into my bed I felt something crawling on my leg.  I found a tick

embedded in my leg.  I yanked it out but kept the tick and put it into an envelope.  They test

ticks for Lyme Disease now.  I gave myself an antibiotic for good measure.  I am lucky to have

a Doxycycline on hand.  I did feel nauseous and have a headache.  I hope this antibiotics does the trick.

The light was great this afternoon. I raced to a house where I am doing a large commission painting.

The new owner has been kind to allow me to paint there.  I knew the angle of the house to concentrate on.

I sprayed my legs with Repel deet.  I put down a canvas drop cloth, sprayed that with Repel deet.  I sat down

with my feet on the drop cloth and painted.  About an hour into the painting I felt a tick climbing on

my leg!  I grabbed the Repel deet spray and fogged my pant leg.  The climbing stopped!  I sprayed my

other leg for good measure and sprayed my neck and top of my head!  Ticks are a huge issue here in

Maine.  Lyme Disease and Anaplasmosis are very dangerous tick illnesses.  I had Anaplasmosis this last

October and was treated with antibiotics.  I do not want more tick illnesses.  I came home from painting

and showered using Dawn dishwashing soap!  Dawn kills ticks.  Despite all of the precautions I found

a tick sitting on the top of my car seat.

The painting of the house today served a great purpose. I feel more confident tackling the larger painting.

My art patron said he wanted the dorm window pane black like the lower windows.  He liked how the painting

came out.   I drew three designs.  He chose one.  I drew it onto the copper panel.  I did an underpainting.  This

took me 20 hours.  Now I will let the underpainting dry.  I feel very honored to have been chosen to do this

special commission.  The house was in his family for 5 generations.  He sold the house.  The painting will allow

him to heal a little I hope.  I feel a strong sense of purpose.  I am grateful for this.

I let Lady Violet outside last night about 11pm.  I forgot to let her back inside.

Robert said he heard a dog barking in the distance but did not think it was one of

our dogs!  He did not see Lady Violet this morning in his room. He did not see her

downstairs for breakfast!  He opened the door and saw Lady Violet soak and wet.

She was fine. Lady Violet had slept outside all night long!

Robert said he was glad it was not Winter!  I won't make that error

again.  Sorry Lady Violet.  Good night.

June 14, 2023 Painted The Mary Day Schooner Coming Into Stonington Harbor in Maine!

"Mary Day Arriving in Stonington Harbor" 8x10 sold.  Thank you.  Happy Anniversary!

I sold this painting to a couple out for their walk in Stonington.  They are celebrating

their anniversary and decided this painting of their favorite view would make a wonderful

present.  The interesting thing about buying a painting with someone, every time you

walk by that painting on the wall, you will remember that day, remember the person you

were with.  You recall a younger you and what was going on at that time.  You remember

the things you said to the other person about the painting and maybe about the artist.

Buying a painting is a special thing.

A funny thing happened to me while I was painting this painting.  I started to feel a tick

on my leg climbing.  I could feel him reach my knee inside of my pants.  There was no where

to take my pants off and get the tick!  I reached into my car for a can of deet Repel and

fogged my pant leg with the spray for two minutes!  That killed the tick!  Left a cloud of

smoke coming out of my pant leg for a few seconds.   I resumed painting!

I came home to find Festus with a bag and one of my shoes.  He had his

paws on either side of his possessions like he was guarding them!  He was on

alert!  Then I saw Lady Violet walking around with the other shoe!  A game was invented

and Festus was included!  Festus was serious about protecting his loot!

Look at Festus's ears held back while Lady Violet on the right has my shoe in her mouth!

She is showing Monet, her Grandfather the shoe!

Lady Violet is walking around in circles wagging her tail holding my shoe!

Lady Violet steals shoes, bags, boxes but never hurts them.  I found Lady Violet in our

backyard with the rotisserie chicken bag in her mouth.  She did not open the bag to get

the chicken.

Lady Violet learned this trick of carrying things around to get attention from her Mom Lily.

Lily often makes a high pitch growling sound while she carries things around making everyone

laugh.  Festus guarded his loot for an hour!

Miss Kitty prefers to watch TV on her back in her cat bed.  She keeps out of all the drama

with stealing shoes and Festus.  She loves to relax.

We are having a very grey week.  Lupines are so thick in Stonington and Deer Isle.

Good night.

Have a good night.  Thank you.

June 11, 2023 Painted Stonington's Harbor as The Heritage Schooner Arrived!

"Arrival of the Heritage Schooner in Stonington" 8x10 oil on copper 750$ framed in gold

or black with gold.  Shipping and frame is included in the price.   Sold.  Thanks!

I went to Stonington to paint.  I set up right away along the road.  The Lupines and Flocks

made a wonderful foreground.  I decided to get rid of a large dark tree on the right covering up

the cottage.  I moved the distant cottage so the roof lines would be like steps to the left.

I enlarged the Greenhead Lobster company building so it would be more of a presence.

I decided to paint all boats into the painting later in my studio. The Heritage came silently into

the harbor as I painted.  Such a rush to watch the schooner.  It really was perfect in the scene.

Just perfect!   Drove home.  Robert made a wonderful Greek salad with the addition of tiny

Greek pasta.  I had two big bowls of salad.  Wonderful dinner.

"Cadillac Mountain Spectators" 6x8 sold.  Thanks!  What a fantastic surprise!

The dogs ran to see me.  Monet was in the distance.

"Lupines and Buttercups" 6x8 oil on copper sold. thanks.

Stapleton Kearns is having a workshop in New Hampshire at the Sugar Hill Inn this weekend.

The Inn was booked solid but Stapleton asked the Inn Keeper to create a room for me.

I called once again and the magic happened!  I was able to secure a room.  I will be heading

to the Stapleton Kearns workshop!  I had not thought it possible.  I am very excited about

seeing Dale and Stapleton.  I will be painting a lot of Lupines and the mountains.  I found

a small stack of copper panels.  Another miracle because I thought I only had two!  Good night.

June 9, 2023 Visited With Dundee, the Orange Maine Coon Cat, and His Owner in Stonington, Maine.

"The Yellow House in Stonington, Maine" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with

gold.  Shipping included.

I painted this scene this afternoon in Stonington, Maine.  I drove around to take a few photos.

I had been by the book shop along the harbor to see if Dundee was there.  First he was not there.

On the second trip by the book shop I was delighted to see Dundee plopped down in the driveway!

You can see Dundee, the Orange Maine Coon Cat in the lower middle shadow.

A lady came out of the book shop, got into her blue car, and was backing up!  Dundee

saw the car and ran quickly into the book shop where his owner was working.  Dundee is

13 years old now.  He was very sick recently.  His owner took him to a vet in Blue Hill.

Bloodwork revealed Dundee had a thyroid issue.  He takes medicine now and is gaining back

weight. He is feeling much better.  I could tell his owner was much relieved!

I sat on the steps of the book store to speak to Dundee's owner.  Dundee was swishing

his tail left to right.  I wondered if my voice annoyed him.  Dundee's owner said no he always

does that.  I was so glad to see them both.  They are very popular here in Stonington, Maine.

Recently 50 Dundee calendars were sold.  Dundee's owner sold them in his book shop.

He was given only 2.50$ per calendar he sold!  The calendars were 25$ a piece.  The proceeds

are going to a local veterinarian.  The veterinarian will be spaying and neutering cats.

Dundee yawned while I visited with him.  Dundee is in great need of having his teeth cleaned

at the veterinarian but it costs 900$!  I doubt Dundee would want to have his teeth cleaned anyway.

I did hear a very cute Dundee story.  Dundee likes to occasionally put a few of his kitty crunchies

into his water bowl.  He waits a while.  Then he uses his paw to retrieve the kibble out of the water!  He

eats the water soaked kibble.  He does not do this all of the time.  Just on occasion.

Dundee sure is cute.  He posed for a few photos in the shade.  I was so glad to see him.

Good night!

June 8, 2023 Great Day Selling 8 Paintings of Stonington, Maine!

"Stonington Burnt Cove Sunset" 4x6 oil on copper. Sold.  Thank you.

I had a great time today. I used a hand cart to carry a box of Stonington, Maine and a

few other favorite oil on copper paintings to my car and on to the art patron's porch.

I really enjoy bringing paintings for people to see.  I was dazzled by a whole new area of

houses on the ocean in Stonington.  The private driveway sign had previously kept me away.

What a paradise!  Private beaches, giant yards, glorious homes all close to the Main Street

but tucked away.  I could hardly hear the lighthouse horn. I could not hear any traffic.

I was invited back to paint any time.  I was lucky she liked 8 of my little paintings.

I showed her four frames to choose from.  She and I shared many stories as we toured

her home.  I met many dogs and cats.  Her artwork was amazing.

I am all caught up with my credit card once again!  Sales have been slower this year.

I am very grateful.  I am getting a quote on more 6x8 and 8x10 copper panels.  I had two left.

I have 1/2 tube of Cobalt Blue, 1/2 tube of Cadmium Red Light,  1/2 tube of Cadmium Yellow Light.

and so I will replenish those  colors.  I have a few tubes of Titanium White, and Quinacridone Red.

Talking about cutting it short!  My prayers were answered.  I hope this is a good season in Maine.

It was beautiful in Stonington, Maine today.  There was some sunlight and lots of Lupines everywhere.

Thank you very much.  Have a great night!

This last painting was a cottage on Mount Desert Island.

I have been hard at work in my studio since it has been raining and cold now for a week!

I love my Maine studio.  The light is great.  There are plenty of chairs and places for Festus

and Miss Kitty to lay on so there is no competition for my chair!  I also like the company of Robert

and the dogs.  It is good to be home.  Good night.

June 2, 2023 Drove To Stonington To Paint The Snow Goose House and The Sunset At Burnt Cove.

"Snow Goose House" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipping.

I first drove to Mount Desert Island to paint lupines, a three hour round trip.  I could not find

my black painting box in the trunk of the car.  I drove home.  There were very few Lupines because

the season is very early.  Once I arrived home, of course I discovered the black painting box

in the very back of the black carpeted trunk of the car. It had been there the whole time. I am

still recovering from the 2500 mile trip from Florida to Maine.  I decided to not let this get me

down, drive to Stonington, and paint!

I went over the large green bridge to Deer Isle.  Then I encountered this scene!

The causeway was taken out and being reconstructed!  I had not seen any detour sign.

I stood there in shock!  The man in the machine, came out, and walked over to me and answered

my questions!  Turn right at the storage buildings and follow the signs.  I was so grateful.

It took many more minutes but then I was in quiet Stonington.

Everything was exactly as it had been.  I did not see Dundee the orange Maine coon mix cat.

I went to Sandy Beach.  There were no artists working.

The boats were lined up.  Everything looked beautiful.

It was low tide.  I walked out on the rocks to see the harbor.

I worked hard painting.  I drove the 1.5 hours back home.  Robert was outside in the dark

trying to coax Festus out of his Kittywalk penthouse.  Festus was laying in the hammock not

listening to Robert.  Robert probably wanted to go to sleep but Festus wanted to enjoy

the night air and watch Robert try to get him inside.  Festus came to the penthouse doorway

fast to see me.  I carried him upstairs.  We both laughed a little at Festus.  He had fed

all the cats and dogs.  Another day was done well.  We all went to sleep early.  Good night.
