June 29, 2022 Thurston's Lobster Pound in Bernard on Mount Desert Island Painting TO See!

"Thurston's Lobster Pound" 6x8 oil on copper Sold. Thanks

I drove to Mount Desert Island, about an hour from my house, then I drove to Bernard.

Bernard is a quiet side of the island.  This might be the most popular Lobster Pound.  I have

heard Queen Latif owns this restaurant.  I saw the Queen Latif once at the cash register collecting the money.

I worked very hard on this painting.  I broke out a new brush to get more chiseled edges.

I arrived at 1pm and finished at 5pm.  I was using a size 2 round for a few details.

I loved the light pink sky.

"Hope and Patience" 8x6 oil on copper.  Sold. Thanks.

Here is a commission finished.  I appreciate commissions so much.

There were blue skies later in the day.  Looking towards Bass Harbor.

Beautiful scene in the harbor.

Cable Crossing Road view of Somes Sound and Cadillac Mountain.

Beautiful flowers in the foreground.

Last night the dogs were laying about.  They all wait for me while I finish painting, then

they all follow me up the stairs.  Sometimes Lily howls by the stairs.  I walk over to

her and tell her it is ok to go to bed early.  She would love it if I went to bed early.

Lady Violet on the right is enjoying a new quilted LLBean dog blanket.  The bean bag

dog bed is only used by the cats briefly.

This is Festus' hunting look.  Miss Kitty and I were being stalked.  He leaped into the air

and then took off.  He is cute.

Miss Kitty was trying to capture a moth.  She had caught a

bug and ate it.  Festus and I both examined the bug and could not identify it.

She thought it tasted great.

Festus loves his new cat toy Robert bought him.  He played with this toy for an hour or more.

Sometimes he winds down, lays beside the toy, and has his paw inside.  He managed to get

one of the balls out.  Lady Violet and Festus were both chasing the plastic ball.  I caught it

and returned it to a safer spot..back inside of the toy.

Monet was enjoying the new dog blanket.

Lady Violet is so funny.  Festus was trying to hunt a moth.

Good night.

June 26, 2022 Two New Oil on Copper Paintings To See From Schoodic in Acadia National Park.

"Schoodic Spruce as Blueberry Path" 7x5 oil on copper 350$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping and frame are included.

I decided to stand up to paint plein air.  I used my en plein air pro easel with

the watercolor shelf.  I prefer the shelf.  The other choice is the stick.  I worked

for many hours on this painting.  I like how it turned out.  Lots of emotion.  I was

thinking about how this Spruce tree lives.

"Schoodic Wild Roses and Clover" 5x7 oil on copper 350$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping and frame are included in the price.

The light was great on this subject. I sat down and carefully painted.  I preferred to sit down.

A sailboat came by behind the island as I painted.  I loved watching the white sail move slowly.

There were many people visiting the park today from all over the country.

I like to dress up when I paint.  I was thinking about why I do this for a few days.

Many artists wear stained up old clothes.   I don't think I am a vain person.

I think it has to do with so many people

taking photos of me when I am painting.  I want to look my best. I want to look

successful.  In 2012 a photographer took my photo in Port Clyde while I was painting.

I signed a release form.  My photo was on the second page of the New York Times!  I guess that could make

anyone more aware of what they wear in public!  I also think people treat me with more respect

while I am painting.  I just do not think I would be as successful selling my work off the easel

as I have done in the past wearing stained up ragged clothes.  There have been a few times

when people paid me over 2000$ in cash on location for paintings.  This is serious business.

I do not go out to paint with a 'let's have fun!' attitude.  I am aware it costs me over 100$ to paint

a small painting.  I need to look my best when I show up to work.  I think of driving to Schoodic

to paint as work.  I also make sure I use the best plein air equipment I can get!  I do not want to

look like an amateur.  I know having a well designed easel will allow me to paint my best.

It was lovely in Schoodic in Acadia National Park today.

The light was bright at 5pm.  That is Cadillac Mountain in the distance.

There was wild irises growing at Schoodic Point.

I came home to find a present for the cats!  The dogs were given LLBean quilted dog bed

covers.  They have been enjoying them.  Festus and Miss Kitty both loved the toy.

All of the dogs watched as the cats played.  Festus was the most gun ho.  He thought this

contraption was fabulous!

Festus played for a half an hour.  Then Miss Kitty jumped on to the drafting table to check

it out!  Festus turned his back.  He did not want to see her playing with his toy.  He was a pretty

good sport about this.  The flower is held on by velcro.  The cats can paw at it and take it off and

carry it around!  Have a great night!

June 23, 2022 Two New Paintings to See. View From Craignair Inn. View of Schoodic.

"Schoodic Evening" 11x14 oil on copper 950$ framed in gold or black with gold.Shipping and

frame are included in the price.

I painted in Schoodic in Acadia National Park yesterday.  I had a wonderful time sitting by

this path listening to Fleetwood Mac and painting.  It was so beautiful in Schoodic. The

light was incredible.

"Cause Way To Clark Island" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping and frame are included in the price.

This was such a difficult painting. I drove an hour and a half to Craignair Inn in Georgetown.

I asked permission to paint this view.  There were other painters working in the distance.

I worked on this painting for several hours when I returned home.  I had added lupines

in the foreground. I think that was a good idea.  It was such a massive scene to shrink down to

a 6x8 panel.  I think I would bring a panoramic next time there.

I did a little hiking in Schoodic to see new views.

There are so many views to paint in Schoodic!

There were only two cars in the park. June is not really tourist season yet in Maine.

It is safe to say the golden retrievers are enjoying Festus being home. They fight over the

chance to lay with him on the favorite of the dog beds.  Here is Lily with her Mom Poppy.

I think Poppy had her paw on his back!

Usually Festus is the one chasing Miss Kitty.  But for the last few days Miss Kitty has been

chasing Festus all over the house!  Festus acts like he is on fire running from a very dangerous

scene!  Miss Kitty runs fast!  It is very good exercise.  Lady Violet often chases after Festus so there

are three animals running fast throughout the house, climbing the stairs, and then down the

stairs, running a loop!  They seem like they are having the time of their lives.  Lady Violet likes

to bark.  Festus sometimes meows loud.  I have never seen anything like it!

Good night.

June 21, 2022 Went To Clark Island to Paint. Beautiful Place.

I asked permission to paint the Craignair Inn's view today.

I only had a 6x8 copper panel. I left out the chairs.  I will work more on

my plein air painting tonight and post it tomorrow.  The cause way was very

interesting.  I added a few lupines in the foreground.

Clark Island is a beautiful place. It was my first visit.

There are plenty of places to enjoy the water view here.

Here is another view from the cause way.

This blue green cottage caught my eye as I was driving off the island.

I saw a nice lupine field near Lincolnville.

Clark Island is about an hour and a half away from my house.  It was exciting

visiting a new Maine place!

"Poppy and Bee" 5x4 sold. Thanks.

"I Feel Grumpy Today" 4x5 oil on copper 100$ special includes a custom gold, copper, or

black with gold frame, and shipping.

June 19, 2022 Finished A Laundry Painting! Bean Bag Dog Beds Big Hit With Cats!

Six years ago I bought two bean bag dog beds.  None of the dogs were interested.

These dog beds sat on top of the treadmill for six years.  Monet wanted me to pet him.

I placed the bean bag dog beds near Monet so I could sit in them and pet Monet.

They were so comfortable!  I got up to go upstairs. I came back downstairs to find Festus

laying on the bean bag beds!  He loved them!

Monet decided if it is safe for Festus then he must give it a try!

Miss Kitty thought they were very nice too!

The bed is large enough for two cats!

Such a fuss over two unused bean bag dog beds!

Lady Violet did not want to try the bean bag bed.

Festus seemed to be the biggest fan!

Monet was the only dog brave enough to get on top of the bean bag dog beds.

Even when there was only one bed on the floor there was no interest.

After six years there was interest but I wonder if it is a novelty item.

"Windswept" 14x20 oil on copper 1500$ framed in gold or black with gold. Shipping and

frame are included.

Here is a painting I have been working on this last week.  I used multiple size brushes instead

of my one size 8 bright or flat brush I normally use.  There are so much layers of paint built up.

I am very pleased it is finished.

"Blowing In The Wind" 14x20 oil on copper.  1500$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping and frame are included.

Here is another laundry lake painting I did last year.  I do love to paint laundry.

Laundry evokes so many memories.  It is a universal subject.  I love the lake in the background.

The addition of the trees is nice too.  Have a great night.  Happy Father's Day.

June 15, 2022 Painted Peonies Today With Many Lady Artists.

I was the first to arrive to paint Peonies today at watercolorist's house.

She had a lovely house with a manicured garden.

She had never met me.  She did not even know I was going to be there.  Many artists were coming.

She welcomed me to paint her Peonies.  A few moments later many ladies arrived ready to paint.

She showed us around.  We quickly gathered our painting equipment.  We were all very happy.

There was excitement of being together.  I was pleased to meet many artists whom I had not

met in person.  We chatted and painted and laughed a lot.  I painted through

lunch.   I finally finished the painting.

I worked on the painting again once I reached my painting studio.  I added a few bees and insects.

It was a privilege to paint with such successful artists.  They took my email address to be added to

a list to be invited again.

"Peonies and Bees" 10x13 oil on copper 950$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipping

and frame are included in the price.

   Here is my finished painting.

Here are a few peonies to see.

Miss Kitty finishes Festus's food every morning and night.

He thinks Miss Kitty is hungry!

What does Festus do?  He finds a 40 pound bag of dried dog food by the front door.

He uses his claws and teeth to open a small hole in the bag. Then he uses his mouth

to collect a few dried dog food particles and drops them to Miss Kitty below.

Miss Kitty eats the food.  Then Festus tosses her down more.  This goes on and on until I discovered

them!  Festus had the most mischievous look on his face.  Miss Kitty was waiting for more food!

I used gorilla tape to cover the hole.  Then I folded over a bed sheet to hide the dried food!

"I've Got Your Back" 4x5 oil on copper 100$ special, comes with a gold or black with gold frame.

Frame and shipping included.

"Bob" 4x5 oil on copper 100$   gold or black with gold frame and shipping.

"Coolin Off" 4x5 oil on copper sold. Thanks

"Henry" 4x5 oil on copper. Sold Thanks.

June 11, 2022 Painting A New View Today of Lake Alamoosook.

"Beechwood Lane View of Lake Alamoosook" 5x7 oil on copper 350$ framed in gold or

black with gold.  Shipping and frame included in the price.

I was invited to paint this view today.  Loons swam by me as I painted.  I saw an Eagle

fly by on her way to a nest.  I did see many brown moth caterpillars as I painted.  I felt a

few fall down on my arm. I thought one was under my shirt!  I packed up to leave.

I started to feel burning on my skin.  I arrived home scratching like crazy!

I applied Calamine Lotion heavily after a shower.  For two hours this Calamine worked great!

On Maine Government's website, they suggest a combination of Cortizone-10 crea, Extra

Strength Benadryl Cream, Aspercream, and witch hazel to put on the effected areas on the skin.

It is the hairs on the caterpillars that get into the human pores of the skin!   I will be fine!

What a lovely day.  I worked on my painting in the studio once I returned home.

Lupines are everywhere!

Robert brought Festus downstairs to his outside Penthouse.  Then he brought

down Miss Kitty inside of a cat stroller so she could be outside safely.  The dogs were

outside too.  Miss Kitty ate a hole in the screen of the cat stroller and ran around the backyard!

She ran by Robert, ran by the dogs, climbed the stairs, and passed me as she ran back into

the house!  Miss Kitty is a house cat.  She wants nothing to do with being outside anymore!

We were very glad she knew her way back inside.  Festus stayed outside all day long.  If

Robert tried to get him out of the Penthouse, he used his claws and bit.  Finally towards

evening, Festus called to come inside the house so he could eat.

Good night.

June 7, 2022 Painted Birch Trees Along Lake Alamoosook, Orland, Maine.

"Red Bird Singing in The Birch Trees" 8x10 oil on copper 650$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping and frame are included.

I have painted many times at Lake Alamoosook.  I love these Birch Trees.

They make a lovely subject.  A red bird joined me at the top of the tree. He

was singing. I think there was a female on a nest.  I decided to paint them into the painting.

Monet is 9 years old.  He has always been the boss around the house.

If he didn't like something that Lily or Lady Violet was doing, he would bark five times in a

rapid unison, and sometimes bump them with his nose.  They would stop what ever they were

doing, take a look at Monet, and go lay down.  Now Lady Violet is doing the scolding!

The cats wrestle and squabble once in a while.  Lady Violet races over to the cats.

She barks five times fast and loud.  She sticks her nose in between the cats.  The cats both

separate and run for their lives.  I was so proud of Lady Violet.  She is a peace keeper.

I have seen Lady Violet do this four times.  Soon the cats will not wrestle for fear of Lady

Violet!

Good night.

June 1, 2022 Red Oriental Poppy Painting Completed! Festus Takes a Nap With Two Golden Retrievers.

"Poppy Party" 14x20 oil on copper 1500$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipping

and frame are included in the price.

I finished another poppy painting last night.  Poppy paintings are often used by people

to honor a loved one they lost.  They become memorial paintings.  I think that is wonderful.

Every time they pass by the painting they remember their loved one.

Here is the painting before I simplified the foliage.  It just good but now I think it is

stronger.

While the dogs were outside and Festus was outside in his penthouse, Miss Kitty

decided to test out a dog bed where she often sees Festus laying.

I took a break from painting to find Miss Kitty being carried outside by Robert for a

first walk about.  Festus loves his time outside by the water sitting on Robert's lap watching

ducks and loons, Eagles, Osprey, and other birds.  He does not struggle to get away.

He enjoys it so much that every night he lets Robert know it is time to go out!

Lily, Poppy, and Festus all in the dog bed!  So darn cute!

Late at night Miss Kitty came over to sniff Monet's paw.  He is very patient with Miss Kitty.

She walked off after a good sniff.  Golden Retriever's paws smell like popcorn.

I stopped to enjoy Lupines blooming!

Those two large bees were collecting a lot of pollen.

  Lovely Lupines!  Good night.
