October 31, 2022 Hurricane Ian Damage in Fort Myers. My Mom's Painting.

We had a great special time visiting with my parents in Winter Park, Florida.  My Mom

and I made homemade chicken noodle soup.  I went to Costco with my Dad.  It was very nice

to see them again. I am very fortunate to still have both parents.  They are doing fine.

I left at 8:30pm to avoid traffic.  We arrived in Fort Myers at 11:30pm.  The mobile home

was fine except for one small vertical screen panel needing to be repaired. Inside it was a little dusty.

I set to work unloading the car.  Today I finished unloading paintings.  I take 99% of all my unsold

paintings with me when I travel.  I brought down my stereo system.  The cats seem happy to be back.

Festus plopped down in his new cat bed hard.  Later I saw Miss Kitty in the bed.  We could only

fit one new cat bed in the car.  That will be fine.  Miss Kitty likes to sleep near me anyway.

Here is the view from the bay window.  The mobile home across the way was completely destroyed.

The lady set her cat outside the trailer, evacuated to Miami during the hurricane, and came back

to find her trailer completely destroyed.  My next door neighbor who stayed at the high school during

the hurricane said she saw the cat going from trailer to trailer in hopes of getting food.  They all gave

the cat something to eat. I have not seen the cat yet.  The cat in question is Miss Kitty's Brother.  They

always hung out together outside.  We hope to see him.

Another photo of the trailer debri across the street.  They are not allowed to touch this

pile because Fema needs to evaluate it first.  We all hope Fema replaces her trailer.  She

lives her by herself.  Right now she is staying at her Daughter's trailer a few doors down.  Her

Daughter is the lady who first took in Miss Kitty.  Miss Kitty was allowed to live in her trailer

with another cat for a few weeks.  Miss Kitty and the other cat fought.  She tossed Miss Kitty

outside to live.  We are very lucky to have Miss Kitty with Festus and I.  She is a fantastic traveler.

She is very quiet.  She is very affectionate.  Festus loves her too.  Everyday I am glad I rescued

Miss Kitty.  She would have been in the hurricane just like her Brother.

This is a view from a boat ramp along the river in Fort Myers a few blocks from the mobile home

park.  I have walked here many times with Festus and Miss Kitty in their cat stroller.  We always

admired the house but it was completely destroyed.  The palm tree is still perfect!

There are piles of concrete blocks where houses were once located.

The streets are lined with piles of dry wall, furniture, and tree limbs.  The city

of Fort Myers is slowly removing these piles.  They started in commercial areas first.

It is a little difficult navigating the back streets because these piles spill over into the streets.

People are driving around taking metal from these piles.  I saw many workers taking

things out of the houses.  They were wearing white body suits.  Any house along

the river has been destroyed.  I think we were very lucky.

They are all saying a wood fence behind my mobile home saved us.  The wind hit the

wood fence, then hit a large oak, and went up into the air, came down, and hit the trailers

across the street.  The wood fence is gone now.  I guess the wind knocked it down.

I sure hope they put that wood fence back up!

It seems more quiet here.  There are many mobile home parks and houses that are condemed.

People have relocated.  There is no smell in this area.   There is much less traffic.

This is one of my Mom's paintings.  She has painted many beautiful oil on copper paintings

these last fifty years.  She has won numerous awards in Central Florida.  She has been a huge

inspiration to me.  I love this painting.  She said I could show a few paintings.

    My Grandmother also painted.

I feel so fortunate to paint and so does my Mom.

Good night!

October 28, 2022 Thanks Chic Fil A For GIving My Cat A Chicken Sandwich. Saw a Cotton Gin Mill and Abandoned Plantation Home in NC.

This photo sums up how Festus feels about Chic Fil A chicken sandwiches.

Right after he sniffs the air, he knows where he is at, and starts to plead his case!

Normally he is very calm as we are on a road trip.  Festus and Miss Kitty chill.

We meet the attendant who usually loves Festus and Miss Kitty.  Today Festus received a

free chicken sandwich!

He gets so worked up about Chic -Fil -A.  He hides in a cat carrier if I go through a few different

fast food places.  The smell is not appealing from Wendys or Burger King.  Makes me kind of wonder!

I was told Chic- Fil- A was voted top #1 for dinning to go.  Interesting that Festus agrees!

He only eats the chicken out of the sandwich. He shares with Miss Kitty.

We would like to say, "Thank you for the chicken sandwich."  Festus was purrfecttly happy.

So far we have enjoyed North Carolina the best.  Cotton was growing in large fields everywhere!

I saw this old cotton mill gin from I 95.  It took me an hour to navigate but I did find it.

I took many photos. I really enjoy painting this type of subject.  Old Americana.  Cotton

I checked out this old abandoned plantation.  Sad to see it unihabited and it's land overgrown with

weeds and pine.  Someday it will be surrounded by a forest.

Great subjects to paint in North Carolina.

Festus is laying on the other queen bed with his paws hanging down on either side of his head.

He is dog tired.  Miss Kitty is cleaning herself.  We are relaxing in South Carolina tonight.

Very excited to see my parents tomorrow in Winter Park, Florida.  Good night!

October 25, 2022 Driving To Florida From Maine Tomorrow!

I have spent the day packing up my Toyota Camry!  Robert helped me carry

paintings to my car.  Festus and Miss Kitty and I will start our drive to Florida from Maine tomorrow.

We will miss Robert and the dogs.  We should be back in a few weeks to visit and paint snow.

I will visit my parents in Winter Park, Florida then drive to Fort Myers to stay in my tiny

mobile home.  Fort Myers and surrounding areas are full of tragedy from the Hurricane.

We hope to stay in New Jersey by the turnpike tomorrow night.  Then we hope to stay in

Smithfield, North Carolina.  The next night we should be in Winter Park, Florida!  Festus is excited.

Miss Kitty misses eating Lizard tails.  Festus not so much.

Thank you for following us here.  You are appreciated.

Good night.

October 22, 2022 A Giant Cat Portrait In Gouache to See!

"Asia" 18x24 Gouache painting.  Sold.  Thanks.

This was a challenge.  I think I would do it again if asked.  The most difficult part was the

drawing.  Percision!  Then there were a few minor adjustments in the face with the help of the cat

owner.  Asia has been declining in health. She was a rescue.  She has lived a very happy life

with her owner for a decade.  She said this would be one of her most precious possessions.

I believe her.  We love our animals.

There have been more ticks than usual.  Robert saved the day by bringing home dog tick

medicine to ward off ticks.  We have not seen anymore ticks on the dogs.

Festus was inside his pink tunnel most of the day.

Monet was snoosing with his apple.  Most of the time he eats his apple right away.  Today

he savored the apple.  Festus was very curious.  What was that?  He kept getting closer and

closer to the apple.  Monet woke up with Festus starring at him.  How alarming!  He let out

a woof!  Then he started to guard his apple.

Instead of throwing away all of the little boxes that came with the cat food from

Chewy.com, I set them on the floor.  Festus was delighted.  He inspected them all.

He stood in some.  Then he claimed one.  Miss Kitty was too suspious to test any boxes.

I wonder what Festus is thinking?  He is definitely thinking!

I love to watch Robert carrying Festus around the backyard.  I don't think many

guys would do this.  That makes Robert special.  Festus is getting his fresh air too.

I am still feeling poorly from taking antibiotics for a tick borne illness Anaplasmosis.

Yogurt and Kombusha help calm the stomach.  I have another week of medicine.

We went for a drive around Winter Port.

Good night!

October 18, 2022 Presents For Miss Kitty And Festus. Cat Gouache Paintings

"Color Choices" 7x5 gouache. Sold.  Thank you.

This is a cat named Babe.  She is a rescue cat beloved by her family.

"Mind Reader" 5x7 Gouache painting Sold. Thanks

This is a black cat named Will.  When he was three weeks old, he was placed into a cardboard

box, left at a grocery store, in 100 degree heat!  A vet tech coming out of the store, decided to

see what was inside of the box.  There lay an unconscious kitten, Will.  She took him home and

nursed him back to health.  Now will lives in a wonderful home for the last ten years.  He is loved.

"Keep it Simple" 5x7  Not finished yet.

I need to make a few adjustments to the drawing and the box.

Several months ago I picked up this disc cat scratcher from TJMax.  The cats loved it.

Festus or Miss Kitty slept in this disc bed.  I saw Festus take back over the bed by ambushing

a sleeping Miss Kitty!  My Kitty got real mad.  The next day she shredded up this bed.

Festus came over to inspect the damage!  I imagine he was saying, "Now look what you have done!

You have really done it this time!  You destroyed our favorite thing!"

Festus was shopping online.  He came across this beautiful white cardboard

cat scratching bed!  He showed me a photo of it.

I looked at the price tag!  83$.  I told Festus he was crazy!  He showed me the cardboard replacement cost

only 13$.  I was pretty impressed.  I told him I would buy two of them.  He was very pleased.

Miss Kitty was so happy.  The beds should be here within a few days.

Festus showed me a video of a cat treadmill.  He said Miss Kitty could use some

exercise to trim down a bit.  I asked him how much this contraption cost?  He said, "Only

280$"   I told him I would think about it.

I pulled out all of the cardboard that was shredded up and placed a sheet inside of the cardboard

circle.  They have been taking turns sleeping in there.  You can see Festus's expression.

His face shows so much emotion.

Maine has plenty of fall color.

I was feeling so great yesterday!  I went to the pool and swam 4 laps.  My lungs seem the most clear

they have been in 6 months since I had covid a few times.  But today I had a bad headache again.

I still went to the pool to chat with my friends but I did not swim.   Good night.

October 16, 2022 Taking Antibiotics To Get Rid of A Tick Borne Illness Anaplasmosis.

Robert sent me these photos from his phone.  This is in our backyard.

We have fenced the backyard so the dogs and cat can be safe.

Lady Violet in on the right.  Monet is on the left.  Then there is Poppy and Lily.

Festus, the Maine Coon Cat is in the background sitting on a big log.  Miss Kitty prefers

to stay inside sitting on her cat shelf by the window watching.

Dogs and cats require hours of fresh air to stay healthy.  I think it relaxes them.

They all look like they are in a zen like state.  Even Festus looks relaxed!

I am taking antibiotics to get rid of any possible tick borne illness.

I was biten by at least two ticks this last few months.  The second tick, biten on 10/8, might

have been the bad one.  I am feeling better. My fever seems to be going down a little each day.

My headache was gone after a few days of antibiotics.  Now I just feel weak.

I will be staying home to recuperate.  Cape Cod trip was canceled due to rain and Ted's

fear of leaving his cabin unattended.  I might stay close by the house and do a little painting

of fall foliage.  Good night.

October 12, 2022 Bit By Tick And Sick. Cape Cod Invitation. Dog Toys Are A Hit! Ted Said Goodbye To Milo.

"Miss Kitty Upside Down" 7x5 Gouache painting sold Thanks.

"Miss Kitty On Her Card Board Disk" 7x5 Gouache painting 150$ unframed and shipped.

Miss Kitty deserved to be painted for entertaining me while I am feeling sick.

I tested myself for Covid.  Test was negative. I was bitten by a tick on my neck on Saturday.

I think the tick was embedded for 8 hours.  I managed to remove the tick.  There was a typical

red mark around the tick bite.  I washed the bite area very well.  I had a bad headache on Sunday.

Took tylenol.  I had a fever of 99.3.  My normal temperature is 97.1.  I was feeling under the

weather!  I finally tried to go to an Urgent Care today but they were too busy.  Tomorrow I will

try to see a Doctor in town.  I think they will give me a few days of antibiotics.

I bought dog toys!  Monet gathered them all up for himself after Violet and Lily played

for an hour.  He inspected each toy.  He played with each one.  Monet is so cute.

Monet was so proud of his toys!

Festus tried to sleep in a small box last night.

I admired how Festus was watching Miss Kitty walking by.

Ted came over to visit us.  He brought a bag of sliced sandwich meat for the dogs. They

each received a slice of roast beef.  Then he gave them a tiny piece of french bread.

Ted let us know Milo, the red golden retriever he received as a Christmas gift from us, passed

away from cancer.  Milo was not one of our puppies.

He had not been sick.  Ted and Milo went to the beach just like any day.

They hiked up and down the beach.  They came home and hiked in the woods.  They ate dinner.

They went to sleep.  Milo woke up in the night and collapsed.  Ted took Milo to the vet at 7am.

They did emergency surgery to stop internal bleeding from a tumor on the spleen.  They did an

xray to find the tumor before they did surgery.  During surgery they discovered tumors on his liver.

This is such a common cancer with golden retrievers.

They sewed Milo up, called Ted, told him the news, Ted came to the vet, stayed with Milo, while they

put him to sleep.  I told Ted he did a great job with Milo.  He gave Milo the best life possible for a dog.

We reminisced about how I rescued Milo from a puppy mill.  Milo was made to stay in the barn his whole

life.  The puppy mill sold him to me for 500$.  Robert drove three hours at night to pick Milo up.  We

took Milo to the vet.  He had the highest liver enzymes the vet had ever seen.  Milo had Lyme Disease.

We payed for antibiotics.  Milo was very aggressive because he was ill.  He was constantly throwing my

golden retrievers down and holding them still.  He bit me during one of these events.  Ted said he would

take Milo.  He gave Milo all his antibiotics just as the vet had prescribed. He took Milo swimming and hiking

at Sandy Point Beach every single day for hours.  He showed Milo so much love and compassion.  This was

exactly what Milo needed.  Milo started to be a gentle loving dog.  He did not throw any dog down as much.

Only if they were in his face and needed to be shown who was boss.  Ted grew to love Milo very much.  He had

him for 4 1/2 years.  Ted thanked me very much for Milo.  I thanked Ted for taking care of him.  Milo was 9 1/2

years old.  We will miss Milo.  He had a good life in the end because of Ted.  One of my fondest memories of

Milo was one day when I called Ted to do a wellness check up.  Ted lived alone and is in his 70s.  I called to make

sure he was ok. He told me yes.  He said he was sitting with Milo on the porch in front of a hibachi.  They were

grilling two t bone steaks for dinner.  Milo was sitting next to Ted drooling.  Milo had a wonderful life with Ted.

Milo sired many golden retrievers in New England.

End of the season at Thuya Gardens a few days ago.  Asters, Zinnia, were plentiful.

Ted invited Monet and I to go to Cape Cod for a few days.  He has been invited to stay in a 6 bedroom

house right on Cape Cod's beaches.  He thought I would enjoy painting while he metal detected.

He wants Monet to come too.  We could keep Ted company.  I will think about it.  Nice to be invited.

Good night.

"Wintery Day at Somesville Bridge" 8x10 sold. Thank you.

When she came to my house to see my gallery, I put Festus and Lily in the room.

Festus leaped into the air a few times in effort to catch the fish at the end of a line.

He landed hard on the floor and then took refuge in the

cat tunnel.  He stayed there for two hours.  I brought out Miss Kitty. She stole the show!

Lily was on her best behavior but did step on the lady's foot a few times.  She was very cute.

She carried around a few things making a trill noise.

Miss Kitty takes advantage of the red velour curtain that separates the kitchen from the gallery

to entertain our guests.  She scoots out on her back with her paws up in the air.  She is funny.

We always enjoy visitors to the gallery.  Thanks for the visit.

I looked into the backyard today to see Lady Violet and Monet hanging out.  They have always

been great pals.

I have over a hundred oil on copper paintings to see.  Some of these paintings are not on

my website.

"Miss Kitty On Her Cardboard Disk" 7x5 Gouache painting 150$

   Belfast, Maine.

I am waiting on a frame shipment so that I can frame paintings.  Then I will ship them out.

I will pack up the car.  I will be driving with Festus and Miss Kitty to Fort Myers, Florida.

I received word from the park managers that my mobile home is in perfect shape just like I left it.

I know many people are homeless in Sanibel, Fort Myers Beach, and Fort Myers from the hurricane.

Housing is limited.  I may sell my place to help a family.  I am thinking about it.  I do love my place.

Good night.

October 6, 2022 Fall Colors In Maine! Dog and Cat Shenanigans!

Lily decided to climb into my lap!  She is a big girl!  She knows I like this.

She is so funny.

Her Daughter Lady Violet, the red golden retriever on the right, was trying to get up too.

Lily was growling at her.  They both were in my lap before they decided it was not very comfortable!

It was a cold night.  Festus decided to cuddle up with Monet!

  Monet doesn't really mind.

Beautiful Lily.

Miss Kitty chewing on a piece of cardboard.

Festus watching birds safely in his Kittywalk Penthouse!

He sometimes escapes out of the back door but he runs inside of this contraption!

We zip him up.  He stays outside for a few hours.

I chased down Festus in the house. He had run off with this new quill brush!

I was trying to get it away from him.  He thought it would be a great toy.

Look at those teeth!

Lake Alamoosook had plenty of color.

A Beech Tree was a beautiful lime green.

I overnighted my Fort Myers mobile home key to the park manager so that he could

open the door.  I wanted him to take a look inside of the mobile home for any damage or mold.

I would like to wait a few more weeks before I head to Fort Myers, Florida.

Gas and food shortages are a huge issue.  It does not sound pleasant.

I am hoping the electric is restored to all.  Good night.

Good night!

October 5, 2022 Three New Sanibel Island Cottage Paintings To See.

"Sanibel Dreamer" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold. Shipping and

frame are included in the price.

Seashells were always laying on the yellow picnic table in front of the pink Castaway Cottage on

Sanibel Island.  I enjoyed painting there so much.  Cottages 1, 2, 3, 4 are destroyed by Hurricane

Ian.  They will be rebuilding them soon!  They brought so many people happiness. The location

was the best.  They allowed animals with their owners in these cottages.  People have been telling

me stories of their vacations with their dog, cat, and even a parrot!  They enjoyed being with

their pets on vacation.

"Light Will Always Be On" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold. Shipping

frame included.

Here are the two frames I offer with this small size or 5x7 or 6x8.

The black with gold looks great on any painting.

This gold frame tends to look great anywhere. I had a art patron drop a painting onto

the floor. This frame was in perfect condition but it made a huge dent in the wood floor.

Gold frames tend to change orange color after five years and need to be reframed but this one

never changes color because it is not a imitation gold leaf frame!

"Sanibel Memory" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold. Frame, Shipping

included.

I have been thinking a lot about Hurricane Ian and the damage to Fort Myers and Sanibel Island.

They will rebuild.  Florida Power will turn on the electric soon for my small mobile home in Fort Myers.

I am thinking of driving down to Fort Myers just to check on the mobile home, pick up a few items,

visit my parents, and come back home to Maine.  The cats will be fine with Robert and the dogs for

good company.  I might do some painting along the way back in North Carolina and Vermont.

The wonderful vegetation growing along the paths to the water on the Sanibel Causeways

will grow back soon.

The water will always be the same!

Miss Kitty has such a personality!  She practically breaks down my bedroom door at night!

Let me in!  She cuddles up by my feet after a hour an hour of intense purring.  Then in the morning

she follows me to the bathroom where she climbs into the bathtub. She shows me how she can

chase her tail for several minutes. I think she gets too dizzy to continue.  She checks out the bath tub

drain for a drink of water with her paw.  Then she jumps out of the bathtub when I take a shower.

Sometimes she puts a paw in between the shower curtain to let me know she is there.  She likes to

investigate the water in the bath tub as it drains.  Then she sprints down the stairs for her breakfast.

The dogs and Festus greet me at the stairs.  They all want their piece of French bread as a treat.  Festus

wants to go outside for many hours in his cat penthouse.  I check on him after a few hours.  Normally

he is watching birds.  The dogs have eaten most of the pears on our trees.  I saw a crow take a pear.

The two trees were loaded with giant green pears this year.

"Sanibel Sunshine" 6x8 oil on copper sold to a family who purchased a home on Sanibel Island

16 days before the hurricane.  The hurricane destroyed their home.  They were heavily insured.

I am glad this painting will be hanging in their newly built home.  They vacationed here for 15 years.

I sat in front of this cottage on Sanibel and painted this one.  Good memories.

"Sanibel Glow" 6x8 oil on copper sold  Thanks!

"Sunset February 21, 2022" 5x7 oil on copper sold.

These two painting will be with a couple who love Sanibel Island.  They wanted them as a tribute

to the old Sanibel.  I hope these paintings bring them a little comfort.  I think they will.  Paintings

do that.  Paintings capture emotions that a photograph can not.  I am grateful for the few painting
