October 30, 2020 Victorian Porch Clothesline Painting Finished. Festus Likes My Food.

"Sun Dance" 20x26 oil on copper 1950$ framed in your choice of black with gold or gold

handcarved frame and shipping included.

I thought I would share a few framing options I provide for larger works.

This is an Italian hand carved contemporay frame.

This gold frame has an undercoating of red clay before it was gold guilded.

Festus is eating well but he still loves to grab my food to see what it is!

He will stick his foot into my food very fast!

Then he cleans his foot for a taste!

I was eating oatmeal when this time he grabbed the bowl!

Festus was so determined to take over the oatmeal!

Lady Violet hoped the oatmeal spilled onto the floor!

I was wrestling for my food!

Festus is very happy I finished that large painting.

He loves for me to hold him while looking into his eyes for hours!

I pet another dog at the same time!

Monet always plays with Lady Violet.  He played tug of war for 20 minutes.

Then he chased Lady Violet around the yard for as long as he could!  Lady Violet runs

faster than any golden I have seen.

They spend most of the day outside now the fence has been enlarged.

Good night!

October 28, 2020 Some Painting Areas Finished; Some Painting Areas Need Fixing!

Here is the painting as it sits on my easel presently.

I worked for 13 hours last night until I realized Robert was getting up soon!

I needed to go to sleep!  I get into the zone painting and do not realize the time!

I am happy with the Bongo denim sundress on the right.

I wore so much Bongo when I was 20-40 years old!

I loved wearing the sundresses and shorts with the matching tops.

I wore cowboy boots with my Bongo.

I ordered the vintage Bongo denim dress just to hang on the clothesline.

I was smiling to myself when I finished painting this dress.

I think this area of the painting is finished.

The porch floor looks good.  I worked very carefully on this area.

Those spindles ended up being very fun to paint.

I need to make the balls of the spindles smaller on the right.

Monet and Lady Violet were sound asleep.  I thought they looked so cute.

Lady Violet always sleeps on her back with her feet up into the air.

Festus stayed in my chair sleeping while I painted.

He surprised me with standing on his hind legs, putting his paws on my back,

and giving me a back scratch!  I love this.  I could not believe my luck!

I told Festus, "Good boy!"

The painting is almost finished. I need to work on the porch rail on the right.

I also need to paint hundred of spindles along the top of the rail by the porch ceiling.

I hope to show you the finished painting tomorrow.

Good night.

October 27, 2020 Progress on The Victorian Porch Clothesline Painting. DJ Festus!

I tipped the painting upside down to work on the top left.

I save my shoulder by doing this.  I have greater dexterity working lower bracing my arm

than I do hovering my arm way up into the air!

I just turn my computer image upside down too.

I used pure white on the sheet to the left.  I want that sheet to really look bright!

I did use a little Cadmium Light Yellow light with white to create warmth.

I had to stop painting.  I was ready to sleep.

I was listening to Fleetwood Mac on a 45 record while I was sweeping the floor.

Suddenly the record started to skip.  I said to myself, "Oh no!"

I looked up to find DJ Festus creating his own music!

I had to wrestle him off of the record player.  He really wanted to DJ!

Poppy and Lily were surprised how much Festus liked their new dog toys.

Festus had new cat toys inside of his outdoor penthouse!

He loved to grab the dog's chicken toy and bite him on the leg!

Festus liked my favorite painting by Russian artist Nikolai Timkov.

Poppy snuggling with Festus.

Our backyard view.  The dogs prefer to be outside most of the day!

I enjoy sitting on the upper deck with Festus in his penthouse playing.

I can see the dogs below, Verona Island in the distance, and watch Festus

play with his new toys.  It is so relaxing!  I don't need to worry about the dogs

running off any longer!

We all just want to get along and belong!  Good night.

October 26, 2020 Working On A Large Victorian Porch With Clothesline Painting! New Dog Toys!

It takes me a few days studying drawings and images to decide on a larger painting!

Then it took me a long time to draw it three different times onto the copper.

Every time I redrew the image I believe I was more accurate.

After I drew each drawing onto the copper I wiped off the oil paint.

There was just a ghost of the drawing left on the copper.

I don't like to leave the oil paint drawing on the copper when I start to paint.

The light oil paint colors get dirty from the drawing paint.

Also the drawing oil paint creates ridges that complicate matters.

I decided to start on the porch wood floor.  I thought it would be the easiest.

This area took me ten hours to finish.  I wish I could paint faster.

Then I started on the distant sheet.  This sheet will be the center of interest.

There are a thousand spindles with balls in between each rail!

I decided to paint the whole painting, keeping edges soft, perfecting the drawing,

and allowing the painting to dry.  Then I will go back into the painting to work more

on the spindles, wood work, and sheet designs.

That is the plan!  I wanted to paint this view because I admired all the victorian woodwork.

It was amazing how a carpenter design and constructed this curved porch.  I thought the

laundry added softness, a story, and color.  I hope the viewer might be transported to the porch.

Every time I sell a larger painting the dogs and kitten all get new toys!

I didn't think Festus would prefer this dog toy!  He thought it was great!

Festus weighs 15 pounds now. He is practicing leaping off of high places.

Monet was happy with his stash of toys.

Everyone left him alone!

Festus was popping Lady Violet in the head.

I think there was a dispute who owned the plaid bone.

Festus was playing with the plaid bone first.

They are so much fun to watch.

The dog toys were a hit with Lady Violet, Monet, and Festus.

Lily and Poppy went into the other room to avoid the ruckus.

Have a good night!

October 23, 2020 Finished The Fall Sheets On Clothesline Painting. Photos of Process.

"The Dance" 20x26 oil on copper 1950$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping is included in the price.

Here are a few photos of this painting in progress.

This is the second day.  It takes me a long time to paint a larger painting.

On the third day I just was not painting well at all.

I was trying to paint the bottom right shadow ground area.

I could not decide to paint it all dark green or dark red?

I tried the green and it looked bad.  I scrapped it off with my palette knife.

That was seven or more hours of careful painting that just went out the door.

I wiped the rest of the oil paint off with a bunch of paper towels.  I started over.

I had the entire bottom of the painting finished.  I didn't like it. I scraped it off again.

Then I decided to just paint the tree a solid color.  I didn't like it and scraped it off.

That was on the third day. I just was tired or something.  I felt fine.  I just

was painting terrible.

The fifth day I had painted the ground a color that would work as an underpainting.

The leaves I tonked out of the painting.  Tonking removes excess oil paint by

taking clean pieces of paper, placing them onto the top of the painting, rubbing the back

of the paper, then lifting the paper.  I used about ten pieces of paper to get rid of the paint

build up and this was the results.  I let it dry overnight.  In the morning it was very dry.

I was feeling refreshed!  I was painting good.

I worked all day taking food breaks.  I was able to finish the painting

late that night.  I was very happy it was done.

Meanwhile on the home front, Poppy continues to nurture Festus.

I thought this was Poppy with Lady Violet but realized this was Lady Violet!

Festus is getting a lot of love!

Robert was carrying Festus out of the kitchen because he was climbing around the stove!

Robert was trying to cook.  He delivered Festus to his drafting table.  I thought Festus

looked so long!

There was another laugh when I found Poppy snuggling with Monet.

Their Daughter and Granddaughter were making a fuss over them both!

They just wanted to take a nap but their kids wouldn't leave them alone!

Lady Violet wanted her turn with the kitten!

She was appealing for me to remove Poppy!

I told her she had to be patient.

Here is my backyard view.  Monet was walking around.

Lady Violet spends most of her day outside now since the fence has been extended.

She will come to the back door, put her feet up, and look at me through the door's window

when she wants inside.  It is much more quiet inside the house.

Good night!

October 20, 2020 Poppy Has Decided Festus Is Her Puppy! Working On A Laundry Painting.

Poppy is Robert's loyal dog who follows him up to bed every night at 8:30pm.

Tonight Poppy has decided Festus is her puppy!

She has been making soft grunting noises, nudging Festus, until he came to the dog bed!

Then she cleaned him all over.  Festus loved it!  He was rolling around making happy faces.

Then Poppy decided to put her head over him so he could not escape!

This might be a temporary thing with Poppy but who knows?

At first Poppy didn't like the cat.  She really disliked the cat sitting on Robert's lap!

She stomped her feet many times to get Robert to remove the cat!

Poppy has decided she likes Festus.

Festus weighs 15 pounds now.  He is almost five months old in a few days.

Festus has been stalking mice.

He sits by the refrigerator. Mice are underneath.

He sits by the fireplace to watch any action around the top!

This is Festus favorite toy.  The other one was eaten by Lady Violet.

I watched Festus for a few hours while he patted the ball.

Festus figured out how to lower the ball so Lady Violet could play!

Watching "Breakfast At Tiffanys" was funny last night with the orange cat and Festus!

I thought I was seeing double!  Robert laughed too!

I have been working on a larger Autumn laundry lake painting.

Tonight I painted the foreground.  I scraped the whole foreground off once because

it was too dark.  Now it is just right.

Have a great night!

October 19, 2020 Many New Oil On Copper Paintings To See! Fall Colors In Maine!

"Autumn Meadow" 8x4 oil on copper sold. thanks.

"The Canoe" 8x4 oil on copper sold.  Thanks.

"Looking Good" 8x4 oil on copper 250$ with a custom gold or black with gold thin

frame and includes shipping.

"Let's Go Fishing" 8x4 oil on copper 250$ framed in a custom

thin gold or black with gold frame and shipping.

I noticed in my house there are a few very thin wall spaces that could

accommodate a long tall painting!  A thin frame will allow these

paintings to fit fine!

"Dancing In The Light" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold and shipping

is included.

I am hoping to paint this sketch larger.  I worked out a few composition problems

smaller.  I had to vary the mountain line, remove several rocks, and added an

additional piece of clothing in the center.

"Blessings" 8x10 oil on copper 550$ framed in gold or black with gold. Shipping included.

I painted this subject just for fun.

I made up the blanket.  I thought it added more visual interest.

I think it added more warmth and charm to the painting.

The photograph of the cats had a bright blue blanket.

Everyday Festus enjoys hanging out in his cat penthouse.

He relaxes in the hammock, plays with toys, talks to me by chirping,

and sometimes hangs from the interior sides to impress me!

I hardly ever capture Poppy in a photo!  Here she is on the left with her

Daughter Lily with Festus cleaning himself!

Festus was napping in a chair.  Lily decided to sniff Festus.  Lady Violet

put her feet on the chair and blocked Lily from touching Festus!

Lady Violet thinks Festus is her cat!  She is best friends with him.

She is his protector!

Festus loves Naked and Afraid, a TV series, where people are dropped off in terrible

places naked for 21 days to survive.  He sits close to the TV on top of his drafting table.

There are times when he chases things with his paws on the screen.

Festus was shocked to see poisonous spiders climbing around their bedding while

they slept naked.  He looked at me a few times to make sure I was there!

"Did you see that?"

Milo, the rescued golden retriever from a puppy mill, came to meet Festus.

Milo spent his first 5 years in a cage inside of a barn with cats and goats.

He wagged his tail when he greeted Festus.

Festus patted his nose.  Milo is recovering from getting bitten by something living

in a stack of rotting wood.  He is taking antibiotics.  He wiped out all the vermin living

in the wood.  Ted said it was like a massacre.  We both speculated what bit Milo!  Bees?

Hornets?  Mouse?  Rat?  Only Milo knows!

This is the image I am painting big!  I am taking the 20x26 copper panel out to the lake

everyday for a few hours before sunset to work.  I am hanging the laundry even though

the sheets are blowing all over.  I might be able to look up to find the sheets in the very

position I chose!  Good night.

October 12, 2020 I Love Lake Paintings Series Continues! Red Canoe and A Moose!

"Moose Sighting" 14x20 oil on copper 950$ includes a frame of your choice and shipping.

I have been so busy painting!  I sometimes forget to post the finished work.

I am spending a lot of time petting cat and dogs!

What a nice way to spend my time. I feel so lucky to have all of them.

I asked Ross Knowlton if I might use his photo to paint.  I agreed to pay him 100$ when the

painting sold.

"Red Canoe" 14x20 oil on copper 950$ includes the frame of your choice and shipping.

This painting was inspired by a friend's canoe on his lake.

I wanted to recreate how peaceful I felt on the lake at sunset.

These two, Festus and Lady Violet, continue to amaze me!

Lady Violet tucked her nose under his paw to keep warm.

Milo and Ted stopped by to admire our new larger fence backyard!

Milo was enjoying having his back scratched.

Ted reported Milo chased off a twenty pound raccoon late last night.

Milo has been eating a lot of steak so had a fish sandwich for lunch.

They both looked very happy.

Ted still drives an hour almost everyday to the beach so that Milo can swim and run!

I think Milo is a very lucky dog.  Ted calls Milo, "The best partner he could ask for."

Festus's large bag of cat toys arrived from Chewy.com.

I let him have two toys to play with.  He loved a plastic spiral with a mouse that squeaks

imbedded in the center. He loved the long hair grey mouse toy.

I found him sitting on top of the large bag of cat toys.  He was trying to play with the toys

through the thick plastic bag!  He kept looking at me hoping I would give him all of them!

I hid the bag in the kitchen on top of the pots and pans.  I hope he doesn't find them.

Last night I saved Festus 8 foot up in the air on top of the frame rack!

He had climbed up the velour drapes to investigate something and knocked down

a unsold old bog painting.  All the dogs ran.  They were frightened of things falling off

the shelf!  Festus was meowing as I lifted him down.  He had unfinished hunting to do!

Here is Festus with his new toy.  He loves being outside in his penthouse with new toys.

Lady Violet plays with his toys through the green mesh sides of the penthouse!

A nylon tunnel with dangling cat ball came with the big bag of toys.

Lady Violet crunched the ball.  She also took the tiny bell out of the ball.

Festus loves it!

All the animals line up at the backdoor when they hear Robert's car arrive home from work.

Poppy always stands by the front house's window to keep watch for him.  She barks to let everyone

know, "He's home!  He is home!"

Even Festus is there to greet Robert!

Fall colors are becoming brighter!

Have a good night.

October 8, 2020 Drawing Festus! Photos of The Animals! Stonington, Maine Photos.

Even though I have not felt like painting, I have been drawing Festus!

This one was tricky because Festus doesn't stay still.  I had to call his name a few times.

He is fun to draw.

We woke up to discover all of Festus cat toys destroyed.

I think it was Festus who knocked down his basket of toys so that the dogs could share them.

He loves to watch Lady Violet tear up things.

No worries I told Festus!

I ordered a few more toys for him and the dogs.

Festus found a straw to play with!

Lady Violet wanted to play with the straw!

They both played together until the straw was flat and no fun.

Robert asked me to put Festus's harness on him so he could go out.

I thought this was cute of all of the gang!

Lady Violet dragged Festus around the room because Festus would not let go of the dog toy!

Monet, Lily, and Poppy watched as Festus was swinging by the dog toy!

There is always something funny going on here!

Here is Festus drafting table.  He has all his food and water and a few cat toys on top of

this drafting table.  The dogs can't get up here!

Festus was extra pleased because of the baked salmon.

I drove to Stonington.  Here are a few photos.

This is Sand Beach entry way.

Good night!

October 5, 2020 Trying To Get Motivated To Paint! Festus Modeling.

I walked by Festus who seemed modeling!

The quilt and pillow looked so nice with his fur and eyes.

Lady Violet came over to sniff Festus.

Then Monet came over to smell him.

He chirped at each of them.

Monet starred at Festus for a while.

Festus and Lady Violet were trying to catch the feathers attached to a fishing pole.

This ping pond ball attached to thin carbon fiber rod was Festus favorite toy until

somehow Lady Violet shredded it up!  I had to order Festus a new one to keep him

happy.

Monet was looking at his large fenced in back yard.

Lady Violet and Monet stayed outside most of the day just walking

around in their yard.  The weather was perfect.

Poppy and Lily stayed outside for a few hours.  Then they wanted

to come inside and take a nap.

I think Monet likes to keep an eye on Lady Violet.

Festus figured out how to open his cat outdoor cage-penthouse!

He was out of the cage for a few moments before I discovered the door open!

He was walking in the yard with the dogs!  I nabbed him!

Lady Violet was laying down by the edge of the fence.

I kept an eye on them.

October is my most unproductive month.  The shorter day light and gloomy days

makes me feel lazy.  I will get back to painting!

Good night.

"Autumn Confetti" 7x5 oil on copper.  Sold.  Thanks.

I have been painting Autumn trees.  What fun!

Festus could not resist this little camper.  He thought it would be a fun place to keep kitty toys.

Festus has great taste in cat accessories.

Festus has been working his cat magic on Monet.

I find these two sound asleep often.

We didn't watch the Presidential debate for long because Festus hated the yelling.

It is hard to tell which candidate Festus preferred.

I am glad Cats do not vote!

Good night!
