July 31, 2019 Two New Stonington, Maine Little Paintings To See! Saw Dundee!

"Stonington's Green Head Lane View" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold

or black with gold.  Shipping is included in the price.

I painted till the fog rolled in.

Then later I painted the rest of it in my studio!

   I was very busy yesterday!

I visited the couple who promised me an omelette if I visited their Deer Isle home.

I brought a box of 50 small paintings.

I was glad he chose two and asked me to paint his cabin.

They showed me their art collection!

Wow!  They had some of my favorite artists and a few I had not seen before.

There were many stories with each painting.  What a fun time.

Then I went to Stonington to paint on Green Island Road.

I sat on a log to paint.

It was very peaceful.  The light was perfect.

"Stonington Main Street View" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping is included in the price.

I saw Dundee, the orange Maine coon cat sitting on the doorstep of his owner's shop.

This usually means Dundee is waiting for his dinner but he missed his curfew!

I parked and meant to walk to greet Dundee when two different ladies called my name.

I said hello to both.  They came over to chat.  I was petting her little dogs.

Little Maisey!  She is so cute.

Little Spike!  He is so cute too.

I was sitting in my chair painting the mansard roof house again.

I was so surprised to see Dundee walking down Main Street!

He came over to me for a short visit.

He climbed inside of my van and sprayed!

What a naughty little kitty!

I could not believe it!

I caught him in the act!

Dundee modeled for a few photos afterwards.

It is a good thing Dundee is cute.

I soon forgot about his spraying the inside of my van until I was driving away!

Sunset over Deer Isle.

Good night!

July 28, 2019 Painted Two Mansard Roof Homes in Stonington, Maine. Met a Porcupine!

"Stonington July Day" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ Sold.  Thank you!

I had such an excellent day!

I asked permission to paint this view.

I met so many nice people while I painted.

One couple asked me to call them, invited me to their Deer isle home, and said they would cook

me an omelette!

This is such a kind compliment.

The sky was so bright!

I decided to paint the sky a bright yellow.

When paint can not touch the brightness of the sky...yellow is an option!

I enjoyed painting laundry even though it was not there!

Someone was going to call the home owner and ask them to hang out laundry

for the artist!

Not necessary!  I just painted laundry from memory.

This was my next 6x8 oil on copper painting completed today.

"Stonington's Apricot Mansard" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold.  Shipping included.

I went home and tweaked the painting in my studio.

I asked the lady who was renting the house if I could stand in the backyard to paint.

She told me she was heading out, I could do this, but she needed to be there.

I asked her if she might be back in two hours?

We both smiled and she said Yes!

The sun was going down fast.

I painted my shadow in the foreground on the left.

I think this will be a good addition to the painting.

The color of the house was important for me to get right, on location.

The sunlit side was the color of a bright peach but the shadow was a grey blue green, the compliment.

I have a large 20x26 drawing on copper completed of this scene but knew I needed a plein air

work to pull of a good big painting.

I met a young porcupine today on the way home!

He walked very slow.

I was amazed how far apart his back legs were located.

This made him waddle!

He moved like a slow duck.

He noticed me but was not afraid at all!

I thought he was a very good looking porcupine.

Here is a few photos of Stonington.

Miniature roses were blooming.

What an enchanting town!

I am going back to Stonington soon!

Every day I have been taking Lily, Monet, and Poppy to the beach.

We sit on a rock in the shade in the distance after walking.

Beautiful day here in Maine.

Good night.

July 26, 2019 Drove To Jonesport and Beal Island in Search Of Pretty Fireweed!

I decided to drive to Jonesport and Beal Island to find Fireweed.

I think it is very pretty.

I found field of fireweed!

I didn't do any painting.

It took me a few hours of driving to get there.

I did find a campground called Jonesport Campground.

They only charge 20$ for an oceanfront site without electric!

They have both sunset and sunrise views.

I find it so inspiring to travel, take photographs, and paint!

Great light!

This is the bridge from Jonesport to Beal Island.

There is a very old house near the wharf on Beal Island.

It had very nice features.

Love that window!

Fireweed!  Cool!

My Mom asked me a question, "Can you tell if Lily is going to have puppies?"

I told her there is no pregnancy tests for dogs.

She does seem more hungry.

Monet and Poppy sniff her.

I think they are curious as well!

Only Lily knows..or maybe she doesn't know either!

It will be a big surprise.

A few years ago Poppy had us feeding her special foods.  We were pampering her.

I even gave her back massages!!

We thought for sure she was going to have a dozen puppies.

No puppies appeared even after 63 days!

I actually took Poppy to the vet for fear the puppies were inside and not coming out!

I felt silly when the vet said she was not pregnant!

I looked at Poppy and laughed!  What an excellent faker!

Poppy gave me an embarrassed look!

I don't think Lily would do this to us!

Good night.

July 23, 2019 Painted Robert's Flowers. Went To Schoodic To Paint!

"July's Promise" 10x8oil on copper 550$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping included in the price.

It was a grey day yesterday lowering temperatures!

I selected flowers Robert grew for a painting.

I set up to paint them outside.

It started to rain; I packed up; Painted inside; Weather cleared;  Went back outside to paint!

Then I took the painting inside, looked at the computer monitor, made a few changes, until it was finished!

Sometimes I will take a photo of the painting, see something wrong, make changes, retake a photo!

I started painting today in Trenton.

I admired this field of fire weed and queen anne's lace.

I will tweak it tonight and repost a photo.

Size is 5x7.

Schoodic is a great place to paint.

I decided to paint wild roses, path to the sea, and surf.

I will tweak it tonight.  5x7.

"Schoodic Blueberry Hill Path" 5x7 oil on copper sold.  Thank you

I enjoyed painting at Blueberry Hill in Schoodic.

I liked this foreground rock.

The rock looked like a seagull.

Loved the Spruce trees in the distance.

I would like to work more on this painting tonight!

Size is 5x7.

This would be a nice scene to paint!

The surf was great today!

There was a family very close to the surf.

The little boy was so excited when a giant wave rolled into the rocks.

Have a wonderful night!

"Schoodic Surf" 5x7 oil on copper.  Sold today.  Thank you!

July 21, 2019 Painted Surf At Schoodic and Sunset at Lake Alamoosook!

I remembered how cool painting by the edge of the sea can be!

I drove to Schoodic in Acadia National Park.

I am very lucky the drive takes 45 minutes.

The light completely changed so I stopped painting!

I took the painting into my studio and worked on it for a few hours.

"Schoodic Surf" 5x7 oil on copper 350$ framed Sold!  Thank you so much!

I really like how this painting turned out!

I loved this scene at Blueberry Hill.

Everywhere in Schoodic could be a painting!

I decided to paint the sunset at Lake Alamosook on the way home.

The sun sets later in the Summer in Maine.

I worked on this painting in my studio later the next morning.

"Lake Alamoosook July 21 Sunset" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping included in the price.

New toys under Monet's protection?

Monet lets Lily, his Daughter, have one unicorn toy!

Poppy goes into hiding pretending like Monet is fierce with new toys.

Then Poppy came out two hours later to get attention!

Sunset at Lake Alamoosook.

I thought the colors were brighter and the darks were not as dark as the photo.

Good night!

July 20, 2019 Working On A Foggy Day in Stonington, Maine Painting.

I am working on this painting of a foggy day in Stonington, Maine.

I decided to paint it with Cadmium Red Light and Cobalt Blue with Titanium white first.

I painted Dundee, the orange Maine coon cat into the bottom left of the painting.

I added more laundry.

I am going to use an older plein air painting for reference of color.

Here is the 6x8 oil on copper plein air painting.

"Stonington Laundry Day" sold many years ago.

Here is Robert carrying baked beef marrow bones for the dogs.

We decided to let them have their bones in the backyard to avoid the mess!

Monet carried around his bone for twenty minutes before chewing!

Lily put her foot on the bone to hold it down.

She would not give up her bone.

If we stepped near Lily she made the more frightening face with a terrible growl!

There are many pros and cons to giving baked marrow beef bones to dogs.

It is best to supervise the dogs while they have the bones.

We only let them clean their bones for 30 minutes.

They seemed to be trying to get the marrow out.

I don't think it is a good idea to let them have dried out bones.

The bone can shatter, break off, and pieces can do bad things to the dog's stomach.

Raw hide bones are made in China.

I don't like them for my dogs.

Dried chicken was on the market after the avian flu in China.

I don't give my dogs dried chicken to chew on either.

I think apples and carrots are the safest.

The painted the yellow front door white in Stonington!

I am always surprised when people change houses I have painted!

I found another mansard roof house in Stonington along the bay.

It is just too hot to paint outside!

Today I believe it was 94 degrees in Bucksport!

My dogs and I stayed inside the house with the AC cranking!

Good night.

July 17, 2019 How To Paint Looser Strokes. Sunset at Lake Alamoosook.

An artist emailed me a question.

Do artists have looser strokes with time?

I thought about her question.

As artists age, their eye sight can deteriorate, causing their strokes to appear looser.

Artists become more confident;  Their strokes might become looser.

I have seen some artists work become more tight and realistic.

I think her question was more like, "How can I paint looser?"

Prochade box easels seem to help create tighter work because the artist can rest their arm on the box to steady their strokes.

The Julian plein air easel seems to create looser strokes.

Standing up to paint can help create looser strokes instead of painting sitting down.

Use a larger brush!

Painting outside is better.

Painting from photos seem to put the artist into a 'replicator frame of mind'.

Work might be more tighter working from a photo.

Paint an entire painting in 20 strokes total!

Give yourself a 30 minute time frame to complete a painting.

Having a few beers while painting might be an interesting challenge.

I have never worried or wondered about whether my strokes were loose or tight.

I just want to create good work.  That has been my goal.

I never worry or compare my work to others.

I am a strong individual who is very unique.

This mind set helps me.

Every single person will have their own brushstroke style.

I don't think there is really anything you can do about it.

It is like a fingerprint.  Unique.

Don't worry so much about what or how you paint.

Just enjoy the process.

Stack up the paintings.

Keep working and enjoy yourself.

What else is there to do other than to paint?

I am being philosophical tonight.

One thing I have seen:  The louder, more outgoing the person, the wilder the brushstrokes.

The private, introverts, who are very neat and clean seem to have very little brushstrokes showing.

Monet enjoyed Lake Alamoosook tonight!

Poppy jumped off this giant rock twice after a stick!

I took all three dogs to Sandy Point today.

They are fast asleep.

Good night.

July 16, 2019 Brought Presents To Doggies in Stonington, Maine! Pretty Day!

I was invited to visit a few people who live in Stonington, Maine.

I brought doggy presents!

This little poodle Maisey and her doggy friend Spike loved their tiny toys.

Maisey was darling walking around with the toy wagging her tail.

Spike wanted to be petted!

I enjoyed talking to her owner!

She asked me a good question.

"Do you prefer your studio works or plein air?

I told her I liked the look of my studio paintings but it was very exciting to paint outside.

Next stop was two sheep dogs.

He didn't know what to think through the glass door!

I was walking all around downtown Stonington with this pink alpaca toy under my arm.

I could not find the next house to visit!

A few people laughed as they passed by me.

I told them it was a present for a dog!

They said, "Sure..."

Finally I discovered where the house was located!

Quinnie, an Irish Setter could not believe her eyes!

She brought me a toy!

The dog owners were all laughing!

They enjoyed watching their dogs with the toy.

I enjoyed today very much.

Later Quinnie's owner told me, "She took her new toy to bed!"

I enjoyed  taking the day off!

I thought it was just too hot to paint.

Robert came home with three dog toys!

Monet was beside himself!

He took possession on all toys.

Later I saw all the dogs playing with them.

I spent time taking photos.

Lupines are gone.

Roses were blooming.

There was no sign of Dundee, the orange Maine coon cat.

I suspect he was inside one of the summer houses getting his chin rubbed, eating sardines, or

lobster.

Have a good night.

July 13, 2019 Finished Two Oil on Copper Paintings! Update on Milo, The Rescued Golden.

"Checkmate" 14x20 oil on copper 950$ framed in black with gold or gold.  Shipping included in the price.

Finished this one finally.

I liked the dangling rabbit's foot.

"Sandy Point" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipping included.

I started work on this painting months ago!

I think it is finished.

I love this old 1800's house right by our favorite beach.

Milo, the rescued golden retriever visited us yesterday.

He wags his tail as they drive into the driveway.

He just loves to play with our dog toys!

Ted reported Milo has been well behaved.

Milo learned the wounded duck trick at Unity Pond.

Milo swam after the mother duck and babies.

The mother duck acted wounded.

Milo swam farther and farther out in the lake after the duck.

Ted thought that was the end of Milo.

Milo swam two miles out but gave up on the mother duck.

Ted said he hopes Milo has learned about those ducks!

Milo swam back to Ted eventually.

Ted said, "Boy that dog loves to swim!"

Monet barked and barked in the house today.

I asked Monet, "Is it a good day to go to the beach?"

Monet hopped about barking.

I loaded all three dogs into the van!

They had a great time at Sandy Point Beach.

   Monet found a rock!

I do think Lily will have puppies in 60 days from now!

I am very excited about Lily having puppies!

I wonder how many puppies there will be?

What color?  Maybe there will be reds and golds!

I hope Poppy will be a kind Grandmother.

Who knows, maybe Poppy will steal a few puppies?

Monet will clean the pups unless Lily is protective!

Have a great night!

July 10, 2019 Slipped Down A Hill With Two Wet Oil Paintings! Home In Maine.

I headed back to Emerald Pool in Chatham, New Hampshire.

I bought a small backpack to carry my smaller 8x10 open m box easel, brushes,

a few paper towels, palette knife, and Coke!

I hiked the 0.7 miles fine.

I chose to paint this view even though it was packed full of moving people!

I had to wait for someone to move to paint some areas.

One lady was sitting on a rock I was trying to paint.

I was patient.

I liked the painting.

"Emerald Pool in Chatham, New Hampshire" 6x8 oil on copper.  450$ framed in gold

or black with gold.  Shipping included in the price.

I used the same four colors but added a little phalo blue to create those darks and greens.

I was climbing on wet rocks and slipped.

I grabbed the wet painting in mid air!

I had oil paint all over me but the painting was saved.

There were thumb prints and arm prints on the painting.

I sat down and fixed the painting.

The photo above is the painting fixed.

I walked over to the other pool.

I loved how the light was playing off the colorful rocks in the water.

"Sunlight On Rocks In Water at Emerald Pool" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold

or black with gold.  Shipping included in the price.

I like this painting.

If I squint my eyes I feel like I am there!

I took a dip in the water after finishing two paintings.

I was smiling!

Here is the same place without the sunlight.

I discovered today I prefer sitting by a creek like this instead of a lake or ocean.

The sounds of the creek are soothing.

I love to see the water moving.

It is fun to see all the vivid colors from the rocks when the sun is shining.

Sunlight!

Big difference.

I hiked the trail holding my open m box prochade box with the two wet oil paintings on top.

I did great walking.  I didn't trip.

I was at the last 5 feet of the trail.

All I needed to do was climb down a hill to the street.

I made it down to the last step.

My foot slid on leaves!

My knee crashed on the ground but I still had the prochade box in my hands.

I rolled.  I kept that easel level as I rolled somehow.

I fell onto my chest with the prochade box out in front of me!

Then I stood back up and looked at the paintings.

The paintings made it fine!

My shorts and top were covered in dark dirt.

But I saved the paintings!  Success!

I am home in Maine!

Monet was so happy to see Poppy and Lily!

Lily was mated three times with a dark red golden retriever named Sampson.

Poppy scared off all three males.

The breeder said Poppy almost killed little Sunny.

I hope Sunny is not traumatized by Poppy.

When Poppy came home she growled at Monet.

Monet jumped in my lap!

Poppy has never growled at Monet.

We all need a good night's rest.

What a great adventure.

Good night.

July 9, 2019 Hiked and Painted Emerald Pool in Chatham and Diana's Baths in N Conway, NH!

I hiked to Emerald Pool in Chatham, NH today.

It was peaceful painting by the creek.

The colors were amazing!

"Emerald Water" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in your choice of gold or black with gold.

Shipping is included in the price.

Here is my plein air efforts.

I am glad I did not bring the 20x26 copper panel and large easel to the spot!

Last night I dreamed of bringing out the big panel!

I came to my senses the next morning.

Better to do a good 6x8 than a try to get a large wet painting back to the van!

The hike is .07 miles to the pool.

Total hike is 1.4 miles.

What an inviting scene!

I could imagine a 40x60 painting!

This is one beautiful place!

Here is the Emerald Pool that Albert Bierstadt painted.

Here is Albert Bierstadt painting the pool a hundred years ago!

Here is Albert Bierstadt's "Emerald Pool" painting.

Then I drove to North Conway, twenty minutes away, to find Diana's Baths.

I love reading about the locations.

Here are the two Lucy sisters.

Here is Diana's Baths.

The hike is 0.6 miles into the baths.

Total hike mileage is 1.2!

I hiked 1.6 and 1.2 miles today with painting equipment.

The park was very busy unlike Emerald Pool.

I decided to paint this scene.

"Diana's Baths" 6x8 oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Shipping included in the price.

I checked into a hotel in North Conway.

I am waiting for more news about Lily and Poppy.

Robert says Monet is besides himself without his girls.

He says Monet keeps looking for them in the house and outside.

Late last night the breeder said Lily was mated with Sampson, a dark red golden retriever.

He has all his eyes, heart, and hip clearances.

He is eleven years old but does not have one white hair on his head!

Poppy scared Sampson, scared little Sunny, and the breeder with a ferocious growl!

Poppy wants nothing to do with these two red boys.

She is going to introduce a blonde boy to Poppy tonight.

Robert says he is proud of his Poppy turning down those boys.

Poppy is loyal to Monet.

Lily did such a great job.  I hope Lily will have puppies!

Have a good night!

New Hampshire is beautiful.

July 8, 2019 Waiting For Lily and Poppy at The Breeders In NH.

I am in New Hampshire awaiting word if Lily or Poppy was bred to dark red male goldens!

It is difficult to determine if the timing is right.

I would be very pleased if Lily had puppies.

I brought along Poppy for fellowship but who knows?

Maybe both Poppy and Lily will have litters!

Wouldn't that be over the top?

The breeder had three beautiful males.

There were two dark reds: one was eleven and confident, the other a shy beautiful one year old.

All had their hips, heart, and eyes clearance from the vet.

I love taking care of puppies.

I am crossing my fingers.

Monet was wondering why he was left at home?

Robert was going to take Monet to the beach.

New Hampshire has many beautiful lakes and buildings.

I would love to visit the Emerald Pond at Chatham, New Hampshire.

I might go there and paint tomorrow!

"Stonington's Clam Canning Factory" 5x7 oil on copper.  Sold yesterday!

July 4, 2019 Getting Closer To Finishing Boys Playing Chess Painting. Happy July 4th!

"Checkmate" 14x20 oil on copper is almost finished!

This might be the most challenging painting I have attempted lately!

It is interesting to compare the original photo with the painting.

I decided to add a 'vintage' look to the painting.

I used different brushes to add texture to the painting to make it look old.

I would like to work more on the boy's faces!

I took Robert to Horsepower Farm in Blue Hill to buy eggs.

He enjoyed visiting all the chickens, horses, pigs, and sheep!

Their male pig is very cute.

He thought we had a treat.

Robert felt bad for him.

Next time we will bring a treat for the pig.

This is a wonderful place.

We visited the sheep and lambs.

This one wanted me to pet her!

This little boy lamb followed us all the way to our car.

Very sweet!

Happy 4th of July!

I saw these red and white buoys in Pemaquid!

Good night.

July 1, 2019 Rockport, Maine Cottage Finished. Starting A New Painting Project. Old Photos!

"Secret Admirer" 14x20 oil on copper Sold.  Thank you so much.

   I finished this painting yesterday.

I used many different photos to complete the scene.

Dundee, the orange Maine coon cat who lives in Stonington, is under the lilac bush.

I had to paint in the lilacs blooming.

There were only three lupines at the time.

I decided to paint a small field of lupines blooming!

I always ask myself, "What would make this painting better?"

Then I try to make it happen.

The chickadee family was putting on a show that day!

I painted them in various positions using many different photos.

One chickadee on the second birdhouse is feeding her young.

Maybe the Father chickadee is resting on the top of the birdhouse.

Baby chickadees are resting on the roof flapping their wings.

There is Dundee admiring the birds.

I have been given permission to paint this 1934 photo.

I know it will make such an interesting painting!

Checkmate is one move away.

What is that contraption behind the boys?

The boy on the left has something dangling down in front of the cat.

Is it a cat toy or a watch?

I love to paint old photos.

I have purchased a few 1910-1930 photo albums on Ebay to paint.

My Mom is excited about painting these photos too.

I enjoy cleaning up the old photos using photo shop.

I started work on the chess board last night.

This painting will be 14x20.

What have a gotten myself in to?

I was driving by this house on the way to dinner in Bar Harbor.

I stopped to meet the lady hanging her laundry.

She was so pleased to allow me to photograph her house.

She asked her teenage daughter to come out to greet the artist!

I asked to see some of the young girl's paintings.

I complimented her and was on my way.

My good friend and painting client Deborah is on the left.

Dinner at La Bella Vita was wonderful.

Driving home I thought about all the times Deborah and Steve took me to dinner,
