June 30, 2018 Dramatic Dory Painting With Oils On Copper. Floral Watercolors.

"Liberty" 14x20 oil on copper 950$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipping included.

I completed this painting late last night.  Lily walked with me upstairs to bed.

She is the most loyal dog.  She will sleep by me while I am painting.  She wakes up

when I finish painting.  I guess I wash my hands in the kitchen.  The noise must alert her.

What a sweet dog.

The water was very challenging to paint.  I am glad I hung in there.  I made a lot

of big sweeping strokes with my arm to create the water.

"Summer Flowers 5" 7x5 ink with watercolor original painting.  Shipping included.

"Summer Flowers 6" 5x7 ink with watercolor original painting.  30$ includes shipping.

I took back the Canon 420 model camera.  I felt it was too delicate.

I didn't think the photos were great.  I found a Canon Rebel T6, with a 75-300 lens, and

a 18-75 lens, carrying case, and SD card for 500$.  This camera is so much better for the price.

I was able to capture a deer running with the 300 zoom lens.

I should be able to take bird photos if I can find them.  I couldn't find any birds yesterday.

I guess they were hiding.  The birds I did see were flying too fast to photograph.  How do they

do it?

I turned all my 5x7 watercolor paintings into a camera.  So happy!  Thank you!

Sunset at Castine, Maine's Wadsworth Cove.  Nice crisp images.

We all had a nice morning at the beach.  We ran into the red head, Luke.

Funny how close they like to sit next to each other.  They walk close as well.

Lily and Poppy look like twins.

Good night!

June 28, 2017 Demonstration of Ink with Watercolor Flowers Painting.

I drew the flowers with a thin black felt tip pen.

Then I painted the shadow areas a light purple.

Next I painted a deeper purple where the darks were located.

Shadows are best cool.  If I accentuate the cool color then I will have

the feeling of light.  If I paint warm colors in my shadows and warm in

the sunlight areas I will not have a contrast (cool vs warm) needed

to portray sunlight.

Next I paint warm colors in the shadow areas.  The purple

watercolor under the warms cools them off!

Painted cool reds in the peonies shadows.

   Painted backlit blue flowers.

I add darker oranges to the bow.

Worked on the shadows of lupines.

Painted darker greens by mixing blues with yellows and adding

a touch of red to modify the green mixture.  I don't ever use green watercolors or oils.

Best to mix them so they will be harmonious with the other colors.

Painted the sunlight areas of leaves through out the painting.

These will be the brightest warmest greens.

Painted bright pinks in the sunlight or translucent areas of the peonies.

I add darker greens to the shadows.

I take a clean wet watercolor brush, set it on a peony petal,

and lightly rub the brush.  I remove paint.  I use a paper towel to

dry this area and to further remove paint.  This is a translucent

light area.  I will go in to this area when it is dry to paint more bright

pink later.

I add darker blues to the flowers at the top.

I add quinacridone red darks to areas.

I let it set for a minute.  Then I dab these areas with a clean

paper towel to very the values and soften edges.

   Finished!

"Summer Flowers 3" 7x5  ink with watercolors.  30$ unframed, comes with an

envelope to use as a card, or can be framed.  Shipping included.

"Summer Flowers 4" 7x5 ink with watercolor 30$ unframed, includes an

envelope to use as a special gift, or can be framed.  Shipping included.

I took the little scoundrels to the beach this morning.

They had a ball!

Our pal Ted and Luke showed up!

Luke was raised by a cat.  This explains his love for licking himself.

The Momma cat taught Luke well.  Keep yourself clean.

It was a beautiful day at Sandy Point Beach.

Now I will work on a big oil painting.  Good night.

June 27, 2017 Painted At Thuya Gardens And Cadillac Mountain.

"Thuya Garden's Peonies" 5x7 oil on copper

I drove to Mount Desert Island to paint with Peter at Thuya Gardens.

The peonies were blooming.  I decided to paint them with the Thuya Lodge in the background.

Here is a photo of what I was painting.

The light was nice on the peonies.

I edited the amount of peonies in the foreground.

The painting was too small to paint all of them.

I added Thuya's special hand

carved door.

I went to a Doctor's appointment and had a complete physical.

She said I was 100% healthy.

I made the mistake of showing her a bug bite.

She wanted to see if it was a tick!

She had a scalpel in her hand in a second, alcohol wipe, and dug in!

Yikes! I was glad to be out of there. Not a tick.  Not a TICK!

I drove to Cadillac mountain to paint with Peter.

The light diffused from clouds.

"Cadillac Mountain View" 5x7 oil on copper

It is so tempting to put a highlight on every tree limb edge when the spruce trees are backlit.

A little girl said to me she wanted to paint.

I gave my loaded paint brush to her and said go to it.

I really wanted to see what she would do.  The painting was done at that point.

I just thought it would be a blast to see her paint!  Her Mom grabbed the paint brush out

of her little hand.  I was disappointed and so was the little girl.  What a party pooper.

These old cars were all over Mount Desert Island.

They were originals not replicas.

The passengers were dressed in appropriate old clothing.

The Blue poppies were blooming at Thuya Garden.

June 25, 2017 Abandoned House Or Not? Peonies Watercolors. Dory In Oil On Copper Painting.

"Peonies 1" 7x5 ink with watercolor.  Sold.  Thanks.

"Bar Harbor Roses 21" 7x5 ink with watercolor.  Sold.  Thanks.

"Summer Flower 1" 7x5 ink with watercolor.  Sold.  Thanks.

I had a new client receive a ink with watercolor painting she purchased.

She wrote me she was expecting an original watercolor not a print.

I thought hard for a few minutes.  Then I realized if she ran her finger over the painting

she might feel paint on the surface.  Further more I asked her to put a drop of water

on the paint and rub it.  The watercolor would smear.  She apologized for her error.

I told her no problem!  I am glad she spoke up!  These are the original ink with watercolor

paintings.  I do not sell prints.  I am a prolific artist and enjoy sharing my work at a reasonable

price.  It makes me happy.

I have a friend who also enjoys exploring and photographing abandoned houses.

I was showing Robert one of the houses she found.  It was a beautiful house.

I was showing Robert the photo of the bedroom in this house.

He said it looked inhabited.

He looked at the kitchen photo and said it was still being lived in!

I told him my friend said the door of the house was wide open.

He replied that our door is often open.  The place looks about the same as in the photo.

So my friend was really walking around in someone's house?

He and I laughed so hard.  We laughed for a long time.

I said finally, well I am glad the people did not come home from church early!

We laughed more.

He said, "Look there is still soap!"   More laughing.

I showed him a photo of the sign on the front door.  Robert asked me if a dog was seen?

I told him they must have been walking the dog because a dog was not to be found.

This is a new 14x20 oil on copper painting I am currently working on at night!

I worked for ten hours on just the interior of the boat.  I will work more on the interior

later as the painting progresses.

Ted and Luke came to visit this morning.  At the end of their visit he gives them all

a fancy chicken medallion treat.  Monet had a new dog toy in his mouth.  Ted threw

him many treats but they all landed on the ground.  He couldn't catch the treat because

of his hedgehog toy!  Lily ate each one meant for Monet.  I carried a treat for Monet

into the house.  He ate it eventually.

Good night.

June 24, 2017 Golden Hour At Belfast's Waterfront. Lots Of Purple In Floral Watercolor.

"Summer Flowers 1" 7x5 ink with watercolor.  Sold. Thanks.

I was trying out a new pink watercolor called Opera Pink by Daniel Smith.

It is a fun color to just use a tiny splash of as it can be fugitive if you set it in the sun.

"Summer Flowers 2" 5x7 ink with watercolors.  30$ includes shipping.

I cut one of Robert's blue Irises and Lupines to add to a bouquet to paint.

Robert and I walked around the Belfast harbor.

These long rowing boats were fantastic.  What fun they would be.

A man rowed by in this nice dory.  I loved it!

Monet sat in my chair!  He was frightened when Robert accidentally dropped  a

dozen raw eggs in the kitchen.  Ha.  Poppy and Lily were not afraid.

June 23, 2017 Working On A Dory Painting in Oil on Copper.

"Freedom" 14x20 oil on copper   950$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipping included.

I worked on this painting today.  It was interesting working on oil again after doing

so many small watercolor paintings.  I felt like I am almost painting in watercolor but with oils!

I enjoy painting the water and love the challenge of painting and drawing the boat.

Then I love the results.  They are nice to look at.  I could put this painting any where in

the house.  It is a universal subject anyone in the world would recognize.  I will continue

to paint many more of these dory paintings.

Monet, Lily, and Poppy love broccoli stalks.  Yummy.   Keeps their teeth clean.  Lots of

vitamins.   They also enjoyed two red peppers and one green pepper.  These are just snacks

in between their breakfast and dinner.

The last one I painted all the shadows in purple washes leaving all the sunlit

areas free of paint.  Then I painted warm tones in the sunlight area.

I washed over into the shadows with cooler colors.  Then went back in

with purples to restate the shadows.  It is interesting to do different techniques.

"Spring Flowers 20" 7x5 ink with watercolor Sold. Thank you!

I painted this one this morning.  I was busy boxing up sold paintings to ship.

I was sick for a few hours but recovered and kept painting!

I might have ate something that didn't agree with me.  Happens to everyone.

I am almost finished with my executive duties with shipping, ordering, and

organizing, and cleaning.  I should be able to travel and paint for a few days.

Lily walked around with this new toy today growling.  She was proud.

Lily avoided eye contact with her Dad Monet who was

under the table hoarding all new dog toys.  This worked well.

Monet felt really guilty.  He brought Lily a toy.  She took the hedgehog

upstairs.  She slept with the hedgehog as a pillow.  This morning

she tried to take it outside.  I ended up carrying all the dog toys

back inside the house!

June 21, 2017 Trip To Pemaquid. Route 32 Abandoned Homes. Dog Toy Presents.

I was driving to Pemaquid to pick up a painting at Saltwater Artist Gallery.

A client saw this painting on my website, went to the Bar Harbor Art In The Park Show,

and asked to purchase the painting.  Now I have the painting in my possession again.

I will deliver the painting to Bar Harbor this week!

"Charlotte Rhoades Garden" 14x20 oil on copper.  Sold.  Thanks.

I stopped to take photos along Route 32.

I love the character of old homes.

I took photos of a barn.  This was interesting.

Loved this old barn.

   Lovely dory!

I placed a large order of copper panels!  This will keep me busy.  I restocked oil paint.

I ordered many frames from King of Frames in California.  These frames will

look great on my larger works.  They are thick bright gold over red clay carved wood.

I paid back Robert for the new lap top. I will bring the broken lap top to a

computer doctor. They will replace the monitor so I can access thousands of images

from my old lap top.  Monet, Lily, and Poppy received more Bravecto to ward off ticks!

Monet, Lily, and Poppy loved their new doggy toys.

Monet confiscated them all.  He is using them as a pillow.

Tomorrow they will all be playing with them.  In the middle of

the night we will hear Monet squeaking the toys.

I am getting ready to paint with oils.  I enjoyed the break.  Watercolors are really fun.

I am very happy people seem to like my ink with watercolors.

I am just happy to be working in a different medium.

I painted only with watercolors for 25 years when I was younger.

At Stetson University in Deland, Florida I switched to oils.

I can do both. This is more exciting for me and for people to view.  Something different.

This is how Monet responded to be kept inside most of the day because of rain.

He brought me three tennis balls.  He gave me a funny look.  Robert took

them all to the beach.  Now everyone is happy.  We are all ready to participate

in the Bar Harbor Art in the Park tomorrow!  See you there!

June 12, 2017 Lots Of Cobalt Violet Today In Penobscot, Maine.

"Penobscot Home" 4x5 oil on copper 150$ framed in black with gold. Shipped.

I have been admiring this house on the Penobscot Bay.  I found a parking place.

I was listening to music, enjoying the salt air, and painting with Cobalt Violet!

Cobalt Violet is wonderful straight out of the tube!  It is a perfect shadow color.

It is pleasing to the eye.  I should use this color more often.

A neighbor to this house told me this house is available for  $100,000-180,000.

The town owns the house.  The owners could not afford their real estate taxes.

In Florida once you buy a house, there is a cap to how much the real estate taxes

rise, to protect elderly people.  I love that about Florida.  I wish this was true in Maine.

I discovered Penobscot was once prosperous thanks to fishing and bricks.

The fishing industry declined from over fishing.

People spent a lot of time with their woodwork back in those days.

They were proud of their homes.

I visited this old Buick station wagon in Sedgewick, Maine.  The lupines really added

something to the photo.

This golden tree was blooming in Castine, Maine.

Good night.

June 11, 2017 Three New Plein Air Paintings Lupines, Daisies, Irises!

"White Irises And Grandmother's Chair" 7x5 oil on copper 350$ framed in

your choice of gold or black with gold.  Shipping is included.

I was determined to paint plein air today!

I took my new wicker chair I purchased at a tag sale, placed

it among my white irises, and painted for hours!

I thought it was an interesting choice of design.

Plein air work always is better... more original and emotional.

I decided on a yellow background to add light to the painting.

"Lupine Day" 6x8 oil on copper 375$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipped.

What a beautiful place this was to paint.  The peppery smells were wonderful

combined with the salt air.  A breeze made the lupines sway.

I had fun.

"Home" 6x8 oil on copper 375$ framed in gold or black with gold.

This was made more tricky to paint by the wind coming off the sea.

The wind made me paint more loose!  I added daisies to the foreground.

I really love this old house.  I hope someone buys it so it has a family.

   Here are some beautiful lupines!

Good night!

June 10, 2017 Stonington, Maine Sunset Painting. Trip To Mount Desert Island For Photos.

"Sundown" 4x5 oil on copper 150$ framed in black with gold or gold.  Shipping included.

I had fun last night painting a beautiful sunset I saw in Stonington.

Mount Desert Island was busy with tourists today.

    Lupines were blooming everywhere!

Along my travels I discovered this wonderful wicker chair at a tag sale for 15$.

A Grandmother owned this chair.  I told her Granddaughter I would take excellent care

of this chair.  It will be painted among lupines.

Poppy and Luke have not been able to create any puppies.

I think it is too late for Luke, who is 10 years old.

It might be Poppy.  She might be faking it all!

Stonington was beautiful.  Maybe I should paint in Vinalhaven.

  Have a good night.

June 7, 2017 Photographing Abandoned Homes In Deer Isle and Penobscot, Maine.

I loved the color of the shingles worn from the weather.

This is a common thing I see in abandoned homes.  Possessions are gathered together and left.

Someone took a pick ax to the walls inside this home to remove wiring.

This house is located in Penobscot overlooking the ocean.  It is for sale for 250,000$

including 28 acres.  The house comes furnished!

This house has been sitting for more than twelve years.  A calendar on the wall reads

the year 1978.  Furnishings are very old but in great condition.

Here is a photo from the realtor's website of the interior.  I have driven by this house many

times and wondered about the interior.  What a pretty house.

I am glad it is finally up for sale.  I think the price is fair.  Love the wood!

This house is abandoned located in Deer Isle.

Looks like the left side of the house was an area a lobster man worked on his bouys.

What a wreck.  I wonder why someone doesn't burn it down.

I suppose this was once a living room.

Houses are very interesting to me.

My irises are starting to bloom!  The house across the street is for sale.

My neighbors tried to sell their house for many years.  They decreased the price 70,000$.

Now the price for their home is 104,000.  This house is the oldest home in Bucksport.

It will need serious repair.  My neighbors have moved to New Hampshire.  I sure hope the

house sells and does not get abandoned.

Good night.

June 5, 2017 Sullivan, Maine Spring Time Painting Finished.

"Spring Fever" 20x30 oil on copper   1850$ framed in your choice of frame.  Shipped.

I think it is finished!  I am very pleased when I finish a larger painting.  I might

take the painting to the Sullivan home to check the colors.  I thought about painting

a bear into the painting on the right.  A family of skunks parading by the house would

be fun.  The painting doesn't need animals.  I will put the painting in the box to dry.

Here is the boat house in Bayview, North Port.

It is an interesting structure to sit and avoid the wind.

Luke came to visit Poppy today.  Nothing happened.  Luke invited Poppy over to

his house tomorrow morning.  Poppy accepted his invitation.

Cross your fingers.  This puppy making situation is not easy.  They are little miracles.

Good night.

June 4, 2017 Northport, Maine Visit Today For Photos. Working On A Big Painting.

"Spring Fever" 20x30 oil on copper  (in progress)

I have spring fever!  I just feel like driving around taking photos, walking, and

appreciating the wonderful weather.  This morning I was going to work on this painting.

I started the painting yesterday.  I didn't feel like being inside.  I started to paint again

tonight.  It makes sense to get out to explore then retreat and paint at night.

I saw this house in Sullivan, Maine.  It was enchanting with the apple tree in bloom.

Most fruit trees are not in bloom anymore.  I am glad I went out and appreciated them.

I loved how inviting and enchanting this scene looked.  It was a happy scene.  I would

love to view this painting during the winter.  I wished Spring was longer.

I confess, normally I drive around, roll down windows, and take photos from the car.

Very lazy.  Lately I have been parking the car and walking all over the area!

Bayview is a quaint town of miniature cottages in the town of Northport.

Today I saw many people standing outside their cottages visiting with neighbors or

anyone walking by.

The cottages are smaller than they look.  I think many of them are about 300 sq foot.

These cottages are very old.  They were build with the idea of a Methodist retreat.

Now these cottages are own by many Summer residents.  They are not winter worthy.

Each cottage has a unique design.

I liked the stormy weather reflected in the water.

This is such a simple looking skiff.

The saga of Luke and Poppy continued today.

Poppy would like to have puppies with Luke.

Luke is not sure.

Ted says Luke may have issues from his last girlfriend "Mercedes".

Apparently "Mercedes" was a preying mantis type of golden retriever.

She tried to kill Luke before, during, and after.

She had many litters of puppies with Luke.

Ted said yesterday Luke was too tired from a three mile walk.  No action.

This morning, Ted withheld Luke's breakfast, three mile walk, his special pillow,

and brought Luke over.  No action.  They sure love to frolic around, wagging their tails,

and hopping.  Monet came over to Luke and bumped him hard.  I suspect Luke

is being a gentleman.  Luke is coming over again Tuesday morning.  We shall see!

Those little puppies would be so cute.

Good night.

June 3, 2017 Went To Sullivan and Sorrento, Maine for Photos.

I really love the homes in Maine.  The charging dog was fun.  I may put him in a future

painting.

It was a perfect Maine day to paint.  It was tempting to collect images to paint.

I loved this cove in Sorrento.  Must come to paint here.

At 6:00 pm the light was amazing.

   The lupine season has begun!

There were five baby foxes.  I believe they are called kits.

You might see one on the left back corner between trees.

They were prancing all around.

I gave each dog a greenie bone.

They are all natural.  Lily tried to take them all!  I told her to take just one.

Her parents are very patient with her.

They like greenies.  I am shipping off a painting on Monday.  The dogs are

celebrating this painting sale with greenies today.  Thank you.

Lily and Poppy are both staying home.  They would love to have puppies with

any male dog at the beach.  They don't care what the dog looks like.  Poppy ran

all the way down the beach to try to mate with little Gus!

Here is little Gus.  He weighs about 35 pounds.  He was mystified with Poppy's assertive

advances. Little Gus has been neutered ten years ago!

Robert was shocked with her behavior.  He gave her a lecture in a nice way.

Monet is staying home with the girls.

Good night.

June 2, 2017 Great Day In Maine For A Long Drive. Photos.

The view from a church parking lot in Port Clyde was beautiful.

I would have painted this view if the sign read parking only during church service hours.

Raspberry Island is in the distance.

What a beautiful old rusty bike.

Monhegan Ferry was ready to take passengers to Monhegan Island in Portclyde.

I discovered two public beaches.  Crecent Beach and Waterman Beach in PortClyde.

   This is near Spruce Head.

Good night.

June 1, 2017 Celebrating Framing and Shipping A Large Painting. Frosty Paws.

For larger works I allow the painting client to select a frame out of five or so choices.

This is a King of Frame from California.  I was so pleased to frame the painting.

I stood back to appreciate the job.

I like to place an acid free foam board behind the painting.

I think it looks nicer.   I also place a piece of cardboard to the front of painting.

The cardboard protects the painting from being rubbed by the paper.

I do not place bubble wrap on a painting or frame.

I have seen bubble wrap create spots on the oil paint.  I guess it can get hot traveling.

I ship it insured by the post office.  I have been fortunate all the paintings have arrived.

Here is Monet celebrating a painting sale with a doggy ice cream treat called Frosty Paws.

Lily and Poppy really enjoyed their treat.  They love celebrating painting sales.

Thank you!

I went to Lake Alamoosook and Craig's Pond today.  These are two places Duke and Daisy

loved.  I had a dream about them last night.  They were hiking in a neighborhood with me.

Daisy disappeared in bushes.  I was calling Daisy.  Then I saw a skunk sneaking around.

Oh boy I thought.  I had better find Daisy fast.  Duke was gone too.  Where did they go?

I was running around a house searching for them.  Daisy came up to me with a skunk

following her.  I put her leash on.  The skunk was not spraying.   I found Duke under

the porch.  It was very dark but I could make out his sweet face.   I saw a few other eyes

looking back at me.  Duke hopped out.  Then a raccoon hopped out behind him.  Duke looked

back to see if he was following.  Then two skunks hopped out!  I was afraid but then I noticed

they were not spraying.  I was standing there with Daisy and Duke and many critters!

That was a nice dream for a change.

Daisy and Duke have been gone for a few years.  I can look at their photos.

They were amazing dogs.

"Show Time" 5x7 oil on copper   350$ framed in gold and shipped.

I thought I would work on a few small boat paintings for Camden Falls Gallery.

Good night.
