April 30, 2017 Hiked The Florida Trail in Tostohatchee Preserve and Painted.

I created a very light weight plein air box.

It weighs 2 pounds.

I purchased a bright blue activity box 5$ at Target.

I found two pill box containers at Walgreens for 4$.

I used two way gorilla tape to secure the two pill boxes.

Then I spray painted the whole box.

I secured a piece of copper with gorilla tape for a palette area.

I gorilla taped my copper panel to the lid.

I loaded up each section of the pill box with paint and closed the lid.

The paint stayed secure in the pill box.  There was so leaking!

I put a small amount of medium in a tiny bottle.

I put a long string around the clip board to carry the whole thing over my shoulder.

I hiked with my friend Kathleen for two miles in the Tostohatchee Preserve till

we found the Florida Trail.

Kathleen had a tripod and prochade box, lunches for the both of us, and water in her

backpack.  She didn't complain the entire way.

We didn't see a single mammal, bird, or reptile during our hike.

We talked the entire hike to scare away any bears.  I was disappointed we didn't see

any animals.

Here is my 5x7 oil on copper creation.

It was just fun to hike with my friend, test out my box, and paint.

I am lucky to have someone daring enough to hike out there!

I took three hundred photos of chickens today.

Some are just begging to be painted.

Thank you Kathleen for your company and sandwich.

Good night.

I really liked this painting.

"Venetian Canal" 11x14 oil on copper sold.  Thanks.

"Winter Park Boat Houses" 4x5 oil on copper sold.

Here are the four painting I sold during this event.

All of the artists participating had outstanding work.

I would chose different frames if I were to do another Florida event.

The frames were thicker and chunkier.  Black with a gold inner lip was a popular style.

They treated the artists very well.  The quality of the patrons and volunteers was top notch.

The directors and museum curators ran the event in a professional efficient manner.

The entire event was amazing.  I am thankful.  Good night.

April 27, 2017 Painted Owls At Birds of Prey in Maitland, Florida.

"Fil The Barred Owl" 4x5 oil on copper 250$ framed in gold shipped.

I decided to ask permission at the Birds of Prey in Maitland to paint.

I chose the perky Barred Owl named Fil.  His roommate was a sleepy Barred Owl.

After a few hours I was so glad to have choses the perky one.

The other Barred Owl had his head hanging down below the branch.

Fil was the perfect gentleman modeling for me.

I decided to create a different background.  He was under a roof.

"Charley The Screech Owl" 4x5 oil on copper 250$ framed in gold shipped.

I painted Charley next.  He was a great model.

A very young boy asked me what type of owl I was painting.

I told him it was a Great Horned Owl.

He said, "Wrong!"   "It is a Screech Owl."

I thanked him.  He was cute.  He ran around calling out all the names of the birds.

His Sister said he had a bird book.  He was so happy to see the birds.

Another young girl on a class field trip asked me if I was a good artist.

I told her I did not know.  She asked me again because she really wanted to know.

Then she decided I was good.  I thought I should not say anything after

my experience with the previous kid.

I had a great time there painting.

"Talbot Dresses" 5x7 oil on copper 350$ framed in gold.  Shipped.

The photo is a little funny on this one.

I painted in front of the Talbots store on Park Avenue.

April 26, 2017 Painted A Man Swimming Laps At The Winter Park Racquet Club!

"Swimming Laps" 5x7 oil on copper sold.  Thank you.

Painters were invited to paint the sunset at the Winter Park Racquet Club.

This is a big deal because this club is very very exclusive.

I arrived early, sat on a lounge chair, under a giant umbrella, and painted the pool.

This is something I have been thinking about.  I wanted to paint a pool.

I did this once with an empty pool.  Painting turned out like a hotel brochure.

I was lucky to have swimmers!

I had the water and background painted.

A man swam by.  I decided to paint him!

Luck for me he swam more than 20 laps.

After his swim, the life guard told him I painted him swimming, and he purchased it.

"Venetian Canal Morning" 11x14 oil on copper 675$ framed in gold shipped.

These Venetian Canal paintings are special to me.

They bring back great memories of my Dad, Mom, Brother Jim, and I in a small boat

going through the Venetian Canals very slowly, then taking off racing across the lake.

We would fish with crickets, swim, water ski, and picnic.

We also brought along our dogs Smidgin and Scruffy, two Carin Terriers.

Once Smidgin jumped out of the boat!  We were terrified.

I jumped in after her, my Dad cut off the motor, and I climbed into the boat

with Smidgin!

I can finally paint well enough to paint these scenes.

Here is my dog Lily being taught by Bruce, dog sitter, to 'leave it'.

Lily does fine leaving it until her Mom Poppy comes over, then Lily

grabs the treat, and eats it!

Monet looks slimmer (he has been on a diet).  He did great with 'leave it'.

Bruce, dog sitter, also hid gorilla balls with treat inside.  The dogs could find them.

But they would not try to remove the treats.  They wanted Bruce to remove the

treats from inside the gorilla ball.  Bruce was amused by this.

Have a good night.

April 25, 2017 Nearly Wrestled A Gator Along Venetian Canal.

"Morning Light On Venetian Canal" 11x14 oil on copper 675$ framed in gold.  Shipped

50% goes to the Polasek Museum.

This morning started out so relaxing.  I was painting behind bushes along the

Venetian Canal.  There was very little wind so the water was beautiful.

I drew out my sketch using my sketch-n-can.

I drew circles where all the sunspots were located.

I decided to paint the sunspots first because I knew the light would change.

After the sunspots I painted the darks.  I painted the boat houses.

Then I painted all the different shades of green.

The sun was coming up on the left behind the palms.

Temperatures were fantastic 70s along the canal in the shade.

I waved to tour boats and answered a few of their questions.

I was getting ready to pack up when I noticed a movement to my right along the wood rail.

A small alligator was starring two feet from me.

He was young and curious.

I grabbed my tripod/easel and ran.

I looked back to see the little alligator trotting behind me!

I kept running.  I was ready to wrestle the alligator.

I tossed my gear in the Volvo.

The alligator gave up and went back into the bushes.

I walked back to see if I could retrieve my wooden box of paint.

The coast looked clear.  I did hear the alligator hissing in the bushes.

I am glad my painting made it safely to the car.

That was a close one.

Here is the beautiful barred owl that seems to live along the canal.

Have a great night!

April 24, 2017 Revisited Venetian Canal To Paint After 30 Years.

"Venetian Canal" 11x14 oil on copper Sold tonight.

When I was seventeen years old I painted at this very spot on the Venetian Canal.

I remember scouting for a location on the Venetian Canal for hours until I found this location.

I sat on the ground and painted a watercolor of the canal.

A Winter Park tour boat came by, they told the passengers to look above the artist's

head to see a large barred owl.  I looked up to see the owl.  Impressive owl.

Then the tour boat told it's passengers the owl discards whatever it doesn't want to

eat out of the nest.  He said if the artists looks around she might see some interesting things.

I did find a few small skulls.  I stood up and dusted myself off.  The boat all laughed.

Today I returned to the same location.

I was painting when another Winter Park tour boat came by the canal.

Just as when I was seventeen, the tour guide told it's passengers about an owl.

I looked.  Sure enough.  There was a small barred owl.

What an inspirational day.  Later the painting sold.  I am very grateful.

"Unfettered" 11x14 oil on copper 575$ framed in gold.  Shipped.

I painted this yesterday at the Polasek Museum.

I admired this sculpture created by Polasek.

It started to rain, I dragged by gear to the tent, and finished it after the rain.

I can paint portraits and figures now after this Winter.

I would have never painted a sculpture before.

Robert sent me photo of Poppy, Lily, and Monet.

They are all looking well!  Glad to see Lily recovered.

They love going to the beach.

They are also enjoying Bruce, the dog sitter, and his dog Ziva.

Ted and his golden Luke are visiting once in a while as well.

I will paint all day long tomorrow.

Have a good night.

April 22, 2017 Painted in Tosohatchee State Preserve. First Chicken Hugging Experience.

"Footbridge" 11x14 oil on copper  not finished yet.

I met my long time friend Kathleen at the Tosohatchee State Preserve to paint.

The 1994 Volvo navigated the nice white seashell/gravel paths nicely.

Kathleen hikes and takes her secret horse named Homer everywhere.

She knew of this wonderful place to paint.

I loved the footbridge.  It had so much character.

The light changed quickly.

I would like to add highlights to the footbridge rail nearest the viewer.

Kathleen's oil sticks melted all over the place.

Some of the large oil sticks broke in half, fell from her hands, and she stepped on them.

What a mess.  I had some facial wipes in the car.

She said the oil sticks worked fine in the Winter.

I felt so bad for her because these oil sticks were the large size and very expensive.

I suggested placing them in the freezer.

Kathleen hugged one of her chickens.  Then she offered me a chicken to hug.

This was my first time hugging a chicken.

I was surprised how warm and soft the chicken was.

I could feel her breathing.

She looked at me smelling my toothpaste breath with disapproval.

I was worried she would peck me but she was so calm.

I really liked hugging the chicken.

The Tosohatchee State Preserve is located in Christmas, Florida.

It is a great place to view wildlife and paint.

Here is Homer, the secret horse, and chickens.

Good night.

April 21, 2017 Painted at the Orlando Wetlands. Raccoon Kept Me Company.

"Spring at Orlando Wetlands" 5x7 oil on copper 350$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipped.

I hiked the Orlando Wetlands with my Open M Easel loaded with oil paint.

I had two paint brushes, a small container with Neo Meglip, medium, small bottle of gamsol,

paper towels, and one repell bug repellent sheet.

Normally I would carry a tripod but the guerilla tripod weighs a lot.

I sat on a bench, started painting this view, when I heard crunching sounds behind me.

A very young raccoon was on his hind legs eating something.

I watched him for a half an hour.  I wished I had another copper panel with me.

I might have painted him.  He was the most cute raccoon I have seen.

An electric tram drove by me loaded with tourists.  I pointed to the raccoon.

She told everyone the raccoon was searching for turtle eggs.

I had forgotten my camera.  No raccoon photos to share.

The raccoon stayed for an hour digging and eating.

What a beautiful place to visit and paint.

Good night.

April 20, 2017 Painting Finished. Monet Rescues A Mouse.

"Summer Celebration" 20x30 oil on copper 1850$ framed in your choice of gold or black

with gold frame.  Shipping included in the price.

I woke up a few times last night to look at my painting.

In the morning I was quick to take a look.

It is so much fun to work a long time on a painting and enjoy it.

Today I did work more on the painting.  Craftsmanship!

I added a few more coneflowers to break up the line.

Bruce, our doggy sitter who visits during the day, wrote me a note about the dogs.

Today was the first time I've been to your house and your dog alarms weren't going off.

I went up the stairs and unlocked the door...nothing.

I thought Ted must have them at the beach but Luke doesn't allow riders in his car.

I went in and all three were looking under the piano.

There was a mouse under there and they were determined to get it.

As I was trying to figure out how to catch it, Poppy laid down and swatted it from under the piano.

Monet grabbed it and ran to the door.

He wouldn't drop it so I took him out on the deck thinking I could get him to open his mouth.

He ran down the steps and put it down and the mouse ran off.

The other two were thinking it was still under the piano.

You try explaining where it went to the dogs. They didn't believe me.

They wanted to keep searching indoors.

Cute!  Luke covered a fawn with his body to keep it safe from a dog.

I guess Monet takes after his Father Luke.

Good night.

April 19, 2017 Is The Charlotte Rhoades Garden Painting Finished?

20x30 oil on copper  almost finished.

I was surprised I used a palette knife to scrape out the sky.

I have never done this before.

I wanted a light pink sky.  The sky was a combination of yellows, pinks, blues.

It would have been a battle to paint light pink on top of a darker wet oil paint sky.

I am sure this would have been a disaster.  The quickest way was to scrape it all off.

Once oil paint dries on copper it is difficult to remove.

The oil paint bonds to the copper just like it would bond with canvas or wood.

I love how the sky turned out.  It was worth the effort.

The only thing I would like to add is one cone flower to the left of the line of coneflowers

on the right.  I think this would break up the line.

I ended up painting over all of yesterday's foliage.

I added more reds to the foliage area.  I only needed to hint at leaves.

The painting was about the flowers not about the leaves.

It can't be about both the leaves or the flowers.

Now the flowers can shine without all the detail and colors of the leaves.

I added a few hints of the wood on the house.  I painted flowers on the right side.

The spruce tree was darkened and made warmer than the light blue it was yesterday.

I decided to keep the dormer window.  It seemed fine once the sky color was changed.

I covered up the corner trim of the flower bed on the right with a larger vegetation

that also broke up the line on the trim above it.

I dragged lightly over the cabbage with a light blue green to soften edges

and tone down the translucent light.  I worked on the curly garlic scraps.

I have repainted the shadows of the vegetables many times.

Today I finally liked the shadows.

I used my palette knife a lot to remove brush hairs, tiny clumps of paint, and soften

large areas.

Here is the painting yesterday.  Lots of changes were made.

Here is the painting tonight!

Have a good evening.

April 18, 2017 Painted Many Cone Flowers.

I painted many cone flowers today in my 20x30 oil on copper painting.

Here is a close up shot!

Here is the whole painting in progress.

There is still copper free of oil paint in the center.

Tomorrow I will paint the flowers where the copper is seen.

Then I will start to rework all around the painting.

There will be some drastic changes.

I may get rid of the dormer window or enlarge the window.

I might change the color of the spruce trees on the right background.

I need to paint flowers in the middle ground on the right.

I might add more pinks to the sky.

I need to work on the transition in the foreground's left side.

I have at least two more days of work to complete this painting.

I might add a few cone flowers to the left lower foreground and darken it.

Here are a few more photos of Orlando Wetlands in Christmas, Florida.

Robert reports the dogs are all doing great again.

He was taking them to the beach this evening.

I miss them all.

Looking forward to returning to Maine May 5 after the Polask Museum Winter Park Paint Out.

Then I am off to a New Hampshire Invitational Plein Air Event for a week.  Should be an exciting time.

Good night.

May 17, 2017 Baby Sandhill Crane Photos.

I hiked all around Orlando Wetlands in Christmas, Florida.

I found one beautiful baby Sandhill Crane with both parents.

I also saw a poisonous snake.

Triangular head!

I don't know what type of snake it was.

This bird allowed me to sit next to him.

A large snapping turtle came out of the water.

   White ibis and whistling ducks.

I made some progress this morning on my large painting.

I have been getting up at 8 or 9am and going to sleep at 10pm.

The Polask Museum's Winter Park paint out starts April 23.

I will be painting early in the morning to avoid the heat.

Good night.

April 15, 2017 Coming Along with Large Charlotte Rhoades Garden Painting.

I worked on the cabbage plants and other foliage on the right side today.

My goal in painting the flower bushes was to make them look light and not dense.

I didn't want my flower bushes to look like dense round balls.

This required transparent light painted in the back of the bush then gradually

building layers to the front of the bush facing the viewer.

Value stacking was required to make the bushes set back.

Otherwise the bushes would all look like one large bush mass.

I will paint in the flowers later.

The path was built with slate colored gravel.

I could not paint the path blue grey.

The sunlight was shining on the path, the color had to be a light warm color,

not a cool color.

I chose a warm pink for the path.  Lavenders in the shadows on the path.

The warm pink path will also tie into the lighter pink/yellow sky.

Once I paint the bright pink cone flowers, I think all the pinks will unify, and

create a dreamy garden painting.

My flower bushes in the background have depth.

I had a great time painting cabbages.

Cabbages have such beautiful colors.  I love the translucent light in the shadows

and the lavenders in the shadows.  There is also a kind of blue green modified with red in

the shadows.  I chose all warm colors in the sunlit areas of the cabbage.

I made light yellows, pinks, and light oranges for the sunlit areas.

I can always go back in later to tone things down.

At least I have used cool and warms to create light.

Lily continues to improve.  She doesn't remember ever being sick.  Robert is taking good

care of the dogs.  He was cleaning the kitchen, pulling out the stove, refrigerator, and

declaring war.  Funny, I clean a lot when Robert goes out of town too.  I think we both like

to surprise each other with a extra clean house when the other returns.

Happy Easter!

April 14, 2017 Starting A Large Charlotte Rhoades Garden Painting.

This is a 20x30 oil on copper.  I started this painting this morning.

I drew sketches for large paintings all week.

I asked my Mom her opinion about the sketches.

She said this drawing was a winner.

There is a week's time involved, tubes of oil paint, large copper panel, and brushes.

This is why I spend so much time drawing and thinking before I paint large paintings.

The percentage of large paintings painted and sold needs to be higher to be successful.

I could paint on the back side of the copper if it doesn't work out.

I just hope it turns out!

Here are a few photos taken during a walk around Winter Park.

Birds of paradise.

Gardenia.

Robert said Lily is doing fine now.  He took the dogs to the beach.

Ted and Luke came over the house to visit. Then he was taking the dogs back to the beach

later.   Sounds like things are back to normal.

Very happy to hear this!

Good night.

April 13, 2017 Lily Is Doing Great.

I heard from Robert tonight.  Lily is doing better.

She has a great appetite.  She is limping less.

She is playing.  I am happy to hear this.

Bruce, our dog sitter, said he was so surprised at Lily's quick recovery.

All Lily's friends are pleased.

I worked out at the YMCA, brought ice cream cones for my parents, and

drew many large painting studies.  I took the day off from plein air painting.

I watched many western programs with my Mom.  Great fun.

She made the best goulash.  She put red chili sautéed bacon, hamburger, fresh

tomatoes, orange peppers, 2 teaspoons of ketchup, and macaroni.

Good night.

April 12, 2017 Lily Is Sick. Monet's Water Lily Paintings Compared To Mine.

I heard Lily is very sick today.

She didn't eat much of her breakfast.

She would not put any pressure on her foot.

This morning she was so out of it she stood outside without doing any business.

Bruce, the dog sitter, saw how sick Lily was when he came to visit the dogs.

Bruce went to the vet to make an appointment.  (Great job Bruce!)

Then he discovered Robert had an appointment for Lily at 4pm.

The vet said Lily had a hot spot under her neck.

The infection caused her Lyme disease to worsen.

(I had taken Lily to the vet for Lyme Disease/Heartworm blood test..Results were negative then).

Lily was sent home with a shaved neck, antibiotics, pain pills, and spray.

Robert reported Lily would not eat anything to get a pill down.

He put goat milk on her food.  Lily gobbled down all her food.

Then Monet and Poppy had sad eyes.  They wanted some goat milk on their food too.

Good thing they acted fast.  By the time Lily went to the vet she was limping on two legs.

Pray for Lily please.  Lyme disease is a vicious illness.  I hope she gets better.

"Water Lilies" 11x14 oil on copper 475$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipping included.

I went to Maitland Art Museum to paint their pond.  My Mom said to make sure I had a path

of light in the water.  She said to not paint the water all dark.  I took the advice.  Great idea.

Monet did have a path of light in his water.

Here are a few of Monet's paintings of water lilies.  He painted 250 water lily paintings.

I believe Monet was an expert on this subject.

What great water lily paintings by Claude Monet.  Very inspiring.

Good night.

April 11, 2017 John Singer Sargent's Water Fountains, Sculptures Compared To My Angel Sculpture.

"Angel" 7x5 oil on copper  Gifted to my Brother and Sister In Law.

I visited the Maitland Art Center's chapel to see this angel many

times when I was a young adult.  She looked so peaceful.

Today I painted the angel.  I thought she was a light blue greenish/gray

most of my life but while I painted her I saw more warm tones.

I used warm tones in the shadow and painted the shadows cool.

Interiors are warm.  The cool colors came from the sky.

There was no sunlight on the angel.

I looked at John Singer Sargent's water fountains, sculptures, and architecture paintings.

The painting above by Sargent shows a very warm painting with a small amount of cool colors.

    This is a great painting.

It almost looks like he used black in the dark areas.

Good example of a John Singer Sargent painting of a statue.

I can see dark brown darks, warm tones, with some greys.

It is so interesting to look how a great master painted a subject.

I think I might try a more tonal approach.  I am painting

tomorrow at the Maitland Art Center at 9am.  If you are in the area

feel free to come out.  I would love to visit with you.

Bruce, the dog sitter, sent me a photo of my pups.  They look fine.

I miss them very much.  They are being taken care of by loving people.

They all jumped into Bruce's van.

Poppy would not allow Ziva, Bruce's golden retriever, to get into the van.

They might have been taken to the beach if Poppy would just let Ziva in the van.

Good night.

April 10, 2017 Painted On Via Tuscany in Winter Park Today.

"Tabebuia Tree On Via Tuscany" 4x5 oil on copper.  250$ framed in black with gold.  Shipped.

I met a painter named Laura Bird Miller on Via Tuscany this morning to paint.

There was shade on the quiet street.

I was tired from yesterday's quick draw.  I decided to paint very small.

The clouds changed the scene.  I think I am finished painting the tree.  It was fun.

"Winter Park Gold" 11x14 oil on copper 675$ framed in gold or black with gold.

Here is the plein air piece completed at the same location a few days earlier.

The flowers are falling from the tree now creating a blanket of gold.

"Three Palms" 4x5 oil on copper 125$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipped.

I decided to paint this quick palm tree painting while I chatted to Laura about colors.

I can not remember the last time I painted a palm tree.  It was kind of challenging.

     I love this beautiful tree.

I have never seen anything like it!

   Lake Knowles.

Everyone had a golden retriever today.

Mary J Gray took my photograph a few days ago.  Thank you Mary J.

Thank you Laura Bird Miller for painting today.

April 9, 2017 Three Winter Park, Florida Plein Air Paintings To See.

"Emily Fountain" 11x14 oil on copper 675$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipped.

Here is my quick draw painting done in Winter Park, Florida during a two hour time period.

Twenty artists gathered, paid 35$, and painted.

We lined up our paintings on easels.  The public was asked to place a cap in the jug for their

favorite painting.  They announced awards.  Then we could grab out paintings and leave.

When I was a young child, I loved this particular water fountain.

I was pleased to paint the fountain today.

"Winter Park Gold" 11x14 oil on copper.  675$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipped.

Yesterday I drove around Winter Park searching for a subject.

People were taking photos of this Tabebuia Chrysotricha Tree.

For one week the tree blooms yellow flowers.

The tree is from Brazil.

It was the largest Tabebuia tree in Central Florida.

"Walker's Home" 5x7 oil on copper 350$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipped.

I had located this house a few days ago.  I discovered later in the afternoon the home is in

sunlight.  I stood on the sidewalk painting.  Walker, a beautiful golden retriever, came outside

to pose for me.  He was wearing a choke collar.  His presence made the painting.

Now I am relaxing with my Mom watching a movie.  Have a great night.

April 7, 2017 Painted Nude Model At Crealde Art School, Winter Park, Florida.

"Halley" 11x14oil on copper 450$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipped.

Today I met my painter friend Mary J Gray at Crealde School of Art for life drawing.

We had two hours to paint the model Halley.

I intended on painting many painters but Halley took me most of the session.

She had such fine features.  I found it difficult to paint the figure smaller.

I chose a larger negative space to surround her.

I did this because I felt Halley was in introvert.

She looked uncomfortable with modeling.

I was happy with the results.

Park Avenue's rose garden in Winter Park.

These would be fun to paint.  Succulents.

Good night.

April 6, 2017 Beautiful Florida Day Painting Peacock Fountain on Park Avenue.

"Peacock Fountain" 7x5 oil on copper   350$ framed in gold or black and gold.  Shipped.

I headed down to Park Avenue, located only a few miles from my parent's house,

and painted the wonderful peacock water fountain.

I am a bit rusty with my plein air work.

Plus I drank two cups of coffee so my hands were shaking.

I will remember to drink tea instead.

I remembered to paint the shape of the fountain.

If I were painting the fountain from a photo, I would forget, and paint detail before shape.

Once the shape of any object is established in oil paint it is funny how very little details are needed.

"Peacock" 4x5 oil on copper 250$ framed in black with gold.  Shipping is included.

This was the first plein air piece I did this morning.

I decided to paint the shadowed Magnolia tree in the background.

The water fountain was highlighted against the dark background.

The other painting I tried only a blue sky.  Interesting how the moods differ.

I sat in the same place for both painting.  I was in the shade.

Now I am watching a video on how to paint roses.

This painter works with translucent oils.  My Mom and I enjoyed the video.

So interesting to watch other painters work.

Good night.

April 5, 2017 Painted One Pink Rose On Park Avenue, Winter Park.

"Pink Rose" 5x7 oil on copper 350$ framed in gold or black with gold.  Shipping included.

It was exciting driving to Park Avenue's Rose Garden to paint today.

Temperatures were a shocking 96 degrees.

I found shade under a small hedge at the garden.

I loved this beautiful light pink bloomed rose in it's prime.

Towards the end of the painting I felt a bit dizzy.

My Mom called to tell me about the heat index!

I packed up and headed home.

Here is my easel with the rose painting and the rose in the lower right corner.

I found a church parking lot on a Winter Park lake to view a golden cloud at sunset.

The sun was setting behind me.  The light illuminated this cloud.

The cloud was a bright orange.  Amazing.

I may get a chance to paint more orange clouds over this lake.

The composition will be difficult.

Every painting does need a foreground, middle ground, and background.

I think the photo above might be best because there is a better composition.

The other photo is dissected into halves by the distant land.

This photo gives more space to the water.

It is not cut in half by the land.

This one is a good composition but maybe lacking a foreground.

I wonder if a ripple in the water or a few lily pads might create a foreground.

This is Isha, my Brother Jim's six month old puppy.

He was playing with her.  She didn't seem to mind.

Isha is a type of dog that doesn't bark but could howl.

They are the closest related dog to a wolf.

Bruce, my dog sitter in Bucksport, Maine sent me a photo of the dogs.

The dog on the right is Ziva, Luke's Daughter.

They had a good time.

Good night.

April 4, 2017 Back In Winter Park, Florida To Paint And Visit Parents.

I arrived in Winter Park, Florida via an airplane yesterday.

All my equipment arrived safely.

I headed to Maitland Art Center to paint.

Unfortunately a serious electrical storm with hail shut down my painting.

I did find an amazing lily pond.  The gray skies created lavender water to complement the

blue or lavender water lilies.   Beautiful.

I would love to paint purple water lily flowers.

I was going to paint this sculpture.

Now I am spending time visiting with my parent.

It is great to see them again.  They are doing great.

I will try to paint tomorrow!

My Brother Jim has loaned me the 1994 Volvo for the month.

This car has been kept in mint condition.  Fun and safe to drive.

Good night.

April 2, 2017 I Wonder If Beautiful Water Might Make Large Paintings?

We took the dogs to the beach tonight as the sun was going to set.

I found myself mesmerized by the water.

I wonder if these photos of water might translate well into a large painting?

Tomorrow I am flying to Florida to participate in the Winter Park Paint Out.

I am looking forwards to seeing my parents and brother.

I have hired a puppy sitter to come visit, play, and brush all the dogs once a day.

I know Ted will come visit them a few times a week as well.

Good night.
