August 31, 2014 Monet And Poppy Play at the Beach!

Monet can't read the sign 'poison ivy'.

Monet and Poppy are beautiful golden retrievers!

We had the entire Sandy Point Beach to ourselves today.

Monet carried the big stick around!

Monet sat next to me for a minute on a bench.  Then I saw what he was looking at.

Poppy was laying in a pounce position.  Finally Monet decided to let her pounce.

I am super tired today.  I did go to a museum in Rockland with two friends then lunch.

I had a great time.  Thanks!  Good night!

August 30, 2014 Monet's First Birthday Party! New Zinnia Painting!

Happy Birthday Monet!  You are one year old!  What a beautiful dog you are!  Here

are your presents Monet!

Monet hopped up on the chair's arm to take a look at his presents!  He was so

excited.  So was Poppy!

He took two of the most furriest toys!  He was so pleased!

Then he went and collected the largest toy too.  But he was missing one

toy!  Poppy had it!  (stuffing is from a dog toy being ripped to shreads

today while I painted...not sure which toy it was.)

Poppy was playing with the pink toy.  She liked it very much.  I walked by later.  Monet

had all four toys in his bed.  He was admiring each one.

Early this morning there was an official Monet birthday party at the beach.  Monet's Dad

and two of Monet's sisters were present.  The man in the photo is Monet's Dad's owner.  He is super

proud of his dog Luke.  Luke is a beautiful dog.  (Luke is most right)  They had fun!

"Happy Days Of Summer" 16x16 oil on copper.  850$ framed in gold wood.  Shipped free.

Make 10 payments of 85$.  Once the painting is paid off it will be shipped!

I drove back to Charlotte Rhoades Garden today.  What a beautiful day.  It took me a half

an hour to decide what to paint.  I liked the zinnias up against the sky.  I decided to paint

another one like it!  I am really enjoying painting larger!  Have a good night!

August 29, 2014 Butterflies and Zinnia Painting!

"Perfect Day For Butterflies" 16x16 oil on copper.  Private Collection

I painted today in Charlotte Rhoades Garden.  This is the best office I have

ever had!  I am making lots of new friends.  I am really enjoying painting butterflies

and zinnias!  Today I decided to paint the sky with the zinnias.  I sat down for a

different perspective.  These are giant zinnias.  Many butterflies were there today!

I painted a painted lady butterfly as it feasted on a flower.  I also painted in cabbage

white butterflies as they chased each other!  This one took me longer to complete.

What a fun time!

Here is a closer look at the three butterflies!

There was a bee collecting pollen on one of the white zinnias.

I studied the stems of the zinnias and leaves too today.

Here is the White Admiral butterfly!

They were so pretty!  I counted four varieties of butterflies today:  White Admiral, Monarch,

Cabbage White,and Painted Lady!

Here we are first thing this morning!

They sure did have fun today at the beach!

I think Poppy can walk on water!

Today they chewed up my open sign for the gallery.  It was made of cloth.  I imagine they had

a grand time playing tug of war with this open sign.  I wish I could have seen that!

Hours of entertainment for them!  The open sign is still in fairly good shape!  Wow!

   Have a good night!

August 28, 2014 Brave Gallery Visitors! A New Zinnia Painting! Monet and Poppy Receive Presents!

"Zinnia and Friends" 10x10 oil on copper.  650$ framed in black with gold, shipped free!

I spend most of my day at Charlotte Rhoades Garden today painting the Zinnias again!

Here is a close up shot of the white butterfly.  I was particularly fond of how it turned out.

I wanted the sense there was insects and butterfly visiting the flowers without too much

detail.  I like mystery in a painting.  It is fun to look and decide what something is or

to finish in the mind what it may be.  Not everything is explained.

It is challenging to paint most of the zinnias while I leave the ones in the distance vague.

This might create some atmospheric perspective within the garden.

Early this morning I took Monet and Poppy to the beach.  I know this is the most

exciting part of their day.  I may take them twice to the beach tomorrow...once early and

another time late.  They need exercise and fresh air!

Everyday Monet and Poppy tear something up.  Yesterday they tore open a new box

of frames, scattered the wrapping paper, and tore the paper into 2 inch circles.  It took

me a half an hour to pick up each small piece of paper.  The pups watched with excitement.

Then I found one of the leashes chewed in two pieces so perfectly it looked like someone

cut the leash.  It will be difficult trying to prove a dog actually bite the leash as it is.

Poppy was smiling as I examined her leash!   Two days ago the pink unicorns had

'heart surgery'.   They are doing what every puppy does.  It is fun to see

what they get in to.  Today I put both dogs in the kitchen contained by a 4 foot dutch

door.  When I came home Poppy had escaped and was running around the house.  She

likes me to know there is no containing her!

Two great artists from Boston came to visit the gallery.  I put Monet and Poppy in Robert's

van with the windows down.  Each dog sat in the bucket seats.  They looked like they

were driving.  I showed paintings and enjoyed my friends company.  I sold them a chicken

painting!  Thank you!

"Hungry Girls" 6x6 oil on copper.  sold

They took me out to dinner at a local steak place.  They told such wonderful stories.

They brought the pups two identical ducks and each a chew!  Monet liked his ducky

so much he carried it around in his mouth a half an hour after they left.  He

was so proud of it!  They gobbled up their chew too.  Thanks for visiting the gallery.

Thanks for dinner too!  Good night!

August 27, 2014 Sold A Zinnia Painting Yesterday!

"Zinnias By The Sea" 14x20 oil on copper.   Sold!  Thank you.

What an exciting day I had today painting in Charlotte Rhoades Garden on Mount

Desert Island.

Here I am hard at work!  I love to paint flowers on location!  It is magical.

"Zinnia Garden" 14x20 oil on copper sold unframed last night!  Thank you!

This made my night!  Monet and Poppy will celebrate the painting sale with a Frosty Paws

doggy ice cream.  The tradition continues!

I took Monet and Poppy to Sandy Point Beach.  This did fine except

Poppy knocked over a 2 year old little girl.  I don't think the child cried.

Poppy was child tipping!  Naughty.

We were a mile from any person.  So I let them both off leash.  Monet

spotted people moving in the distance.  Both Poppy and Monet ran all

the way down the beach.  First they stared at the lady with her child.  Then

Poppy jumped up and pow!  Then they both ran back to me.  I told

the lady I was so sorry as we walked by.  I had them on leashes by then.

I think dog obedience class is in order when Robert comes back home!

   Have a great night!

August 26, 2014 Monet's Dad and Sister Were At Sandy Point Beach!

Every morning Poppy does her morning wake up alarm chirp.  I can't describe the noise

she makes.  It does resemble a real alarm.  Robert suggested I hit the snooze button by

petting her.  He was right.  She stops the 'alarm' as soon as she is petted.  Monet came

up this morning.  He climbed the stairs just fine!  This is another sign he is feeling better.

He yanked my comforter off my bed.  He threw his front feet on me and licked my cheek.

Now that is a wonderful Good Morning!

Both dogs encourage me to take them to Sandy Beach before my morning tea.

It is beautiful there early in the day.  Today Monet's Dad, Luke, and

Monet's sister, Sophie, were waiting!   What a welcome.  They are all friends.

Monet, Luke, and Sophie.

Poppy, Monet, Sophie admiring a bird!

Luke took off running after a new dog arriving just for a few minutes.

Poppy, Sophie, and Monet with a ball he found.  They had such a great time.

Tomorrow I will be painting.  I can't decide to paint at the Blue Hill Fair or head to the

public gardens to paint.  Right now I would rather paint flowers!

August 25, 2014 Today I Painted a Large Zinnia Flower Painting!

"Zinnia Garden" 20x14 oil on copper.  Sold!  Yeah!  Thanks!

Today I walked Poppy and Monet around the city of Bucksport.  One dog lunged forward

while the other dog was sniffing something.  Both dogs ran as hard as they could

while I grabbed hold of their leashes.  Poppy's legs seem to get tangled up in my legs.  People notice

us and laugh.  I am looking forward to Robert returning home.

In the mean time I have patience with them.  When I came back from painting

today I saw stuff all over the floor.   It took me awhile to figure out what they had torn apart.

One of the pink unicorn plush toys was dismembered. I will try to do reconstructive surgery.

I decided to paint at a garden today.  The Zinnia flowers were putting on a show!  I

focused on the Zinnias today.  I allowed myself to use very bright colors.  I had a good

time.   This painting is a happy painting celebrating the last days of Summer!

August 24, 2014 Monet and Poppy Play With Monet's Father!

Today I brought Monet and Poppy to Sandy Point beach by myself.  The

car ride went well.  When I opened the car door they escaped and ran to the

beach.  Luckily there were only golden retrievers there who were their pals.

Luke, is Monet's Dad.  Luke was there today.  Missy, a 10 year old golden

was there too.  What fun.  Well it would have been 'fun' if Poppy would not

have jumped up on me 20 times.  Tomorrow I have a plan!  I am going to

bring a metal trash can lid with me to the beach.  When Poppy starts

to jump on me, I will use the metal trash can lid as a shield!  I have

bruises and scratch marks all over me from today.

Monet continues to get stronger.  He only limped towards the end of his 2 hours at the

beach.  See how Luke's tail is all curled up?  The owner of Luke told me Luke tore up

his shirts when Luke was little.  He smiled with great affection and said Luke was a

hell yon when he was young.  He said for the first 15 months he was really something.

Monet has been a very good boy.  He has not been bad at all.

A lobsterman was taking a few people out on his boat today.

I would like to report I painted all day. However, I spent my day petting Monet

and Poppy.  I could not get motivated.  Here is Poppy.  She is really a good girl.

She loves being petted.  She was rolling around on her back as I scratched her

stomach.  I took them for a walk down Route 1 on the sidewalk.  I kept Poppy's leash

very tight so she would not continue to drag me down the street!  Monet

walks very well on the leash.  Often he glances up to see my face.  Poppy would

drag the walker down the sidewalk as fast as she could run.  Soon she will learn.

She is very smart, has a great personality, and is cute.

I hope tomorrow's Sandy Point beach day goes better. I hope I feel like

painting.  My heart is heavy from the loss of Daisy.  Have a good night.

August 23, 2014 Monet Meets His Sister Sophie!

We went to Sandy Point beach this morning.  Monet is feeling great!

We saw another beautiful golden retriever there.  Soon we

discovered she was Sophie, Monet's older sister!  They all played

so nicely together.  We had a ball watching them.

We noticed Monet and Sophie both had their Dad, Luke's curled up tail!

They played as if they were old friends.

Poppy, who is normally very shy with dogs, played very hard.  Sophie has the stick!

Monet and Poppy now have a pink unicorn!  Monet loves his new toy.

I made sure to purchase identical pink unicorns!  They were very happy about this.

I hope to get back to painting tomorrow.  Have a great night.

August 22, 2014 Monet Is Doing Great! Poppy Explores Acadia National Park!

Monet climbed into my chair this morning!  He has always done this since

he was a small puppy.  This is a sign Monet is feeling better!  He is going

to beat Lyme Disease!

He played with his new plushie ducky too.

Robert and I took Poppy to Mount Desert Island.  First we went to a public garden

in Southwest Harbor.  Poppy posed for us with flowers in the background!

We hiked the Wonderland Trail in Acadia National Park. Poppy went for a swim!

We both laughed when she hid in the green marsh grass at Wonderland Trail.

We showed her the marsh in Bass Harbor.  She looked at ducks.

Poppy and Robert hiked all along Thuya Drive and up Elliot Trail!  I explore Thuya Gardens.

The light was perfect for photographing flowers!

We hiked a carriage trail near Jordon's Pond.  We showed

Poppy the bubbles.  She was more interested in hiking.

Poppy took a cool dip in a creek.  She was in the car by herself and didn't

eat all the cookies, scones, ginger golden apples, and plums!  That was good.

Daisy would have eaten all these treats quick without leaving a crumb behind.

She would have sat very lady like until we noticed.  She would have wagged

her tail when she was discovered.  We miss Daisy.  We know she is at peace.

Have a good night!

"Lilies" 5x7 pen and ink with gouache painting.

I have been busy creating these paintings the last three days.

I decided to pull Monet outside (while he was still on his bed) to our front porch

for some air.  He has been in his bed for three days now.  We have to help him stand

so he can limp out to do his thing.  I decided to give him Ledum Palustre 1M three

times a day for three days. I read about Ledum from a vet in Connecticut who thought

this was a good treatment along with the antibiotics.  There is one other homeopathic

medicine this vet encouraged pet owners to give.  I just can't find it online.  A half an hour after his first

dose he stood on his own and grabbed a toy.  He feels much better.  He is not limping as much.

Poppy is taking antibiotics and Ledum too.

Monet has not been able to hold his head up until today. We handed him chicken to

eat the last two days.  He would eat while laying down.

He has been eating chicken and rice today eagerly.

We kept Monet hydrated by using a wooden kitchen ladle.  He is able to raise his

head and drink now.  The last two days it was very difficult for him.  He did drink.

I woke up a few times a night to coax him to drink.  I made black tea with a lot

of honey for him.  This perked him up!  I really think the tea with honey helped.  Some

people give their dogs steroids when they are not improving with antibiotics.  I think

black tea and honey is better.

I am glad to have Robert's company as we go through this dark days.  Everything

is going to be ok.  Have a good night.

August 20, 2014 Daisy Went To Heaven This Morning.

Daisy peacefully went to heaven this morning.  She stayed on this earth for 14.6 years.

She loved to swim, eat, and walk.  She loved to greet people.  This morning was her time

to go.  Her gums were almost white.  She coughed some. Her breathing was very shallow.

Then she was gone.  I am thankful Robert was home on vacation.

Yesterday I saw Daisy not breathing for a minute.  She had a strange

coughing motion and she was not breathing.  I went up to her and told her to breathe.

She did breathe.  She wagged her tail, got up, and so I took her to the lake.

Robert was there to enjoy Daisy at the lake too.  He said

he was so glad to spend time with her there.  Normally he takes the younger pups to

Sandy Point when he gets off work so does not get to see Daisy at the lake.

I am thankful we spent another summer in Maine with Daisy.  I know she is with

Duke in heaven.

We offered her a Frosty Paws but she declined.  She was in a happy place already.

The vet said Daisy had probably bled out from the large tumor in her stomach rupturing.

The tumor only had so much room to expand.  I am so glad her passing was peaceful.

I made sure Daisy had a great life.  I will miss her.  Somehow I am a peace with her being gone.

My heart was broken when Duke died.  Maybe there is no way my heart can break

any more.  Or maybe I know they are together again.  Or maybe I prepared myself

for this day for so long.

Here are Poppy and Daisy yesterday on the way to the lake.  Monet was too sick

to come.  I woke up twice last night to give him water.  He could only drink from a

soup ladle.  Today he seems stronger.  I hope he will recover from Lymes Disease.

I checked on Daisy twice last night.  She seemed fine.

She really enjoyed Craig Brook's ice cold water yesterday.  Please don't feel sad for

Daisy leaving this earth.  She would want you to feel happy for her.  She had a great life.

She trained Monet and Poppy well.  She is at peace now.  Good night.

August 19, 2014 Three New Lily Pen And Inks With Gouache. Flowers From Thuya Garden!

"Summer Flowers 2" 5x7 pen and ink with gouache.

"Pink Lilies In My Garden" 5x7 pen and ink with gouache.

"Summer Flowers" 5x7 pen and ink with gouache,

I have been looking after Monet today.  Monet seems

more lame today. He seems worse to me.  The vet says it can take a few days for the

antibiotic to work.  Robert is home for a

while.  His Mom is dying in Holland.  He is flying out on Saturday

to  see her, his brother, and sisters.  We scraped together

every last dime in my account so he could fly at the last minute

to Holland.   I am so thankful we save for emergencies like this.

It is a sad day around our home.

I will be staying around the house the next few

days. I will do more pen and ink with gouaches.  Have

a good night.

August 18, 2014 Today I painted Tiger Lilies, Casablanca Lilies, Pink Lilies, and Lupine Flowers From My Garden! Lymes Disease.

"My Flower Garden" 10x10 oil on copper. 650$ framed in gold.  shipped free.

I took Monet to the vet today.  He had a hurt foot and felt warm.  I asked the

vet to run a lyme disease blood test.  Poor Monet has lymes disease.  Poppy tested

positive for lyme disease too last week.  Poppy is not showing any symptoms.  Only

Monet will receive antibiotics for 3 weeks.  I gave him a good bath when we returned

home.  I have not seen any ticks on Monet.  Sometimes the ticks are too small to see.

I washed him twice with dawn dishwashing soap.  This should kill any ticks.  I hope

Monet gets better.

Here is Monet.  He loves his new bed.  Poppy ripped up his old one...again!

Daisy kept me company while I painted in my flower garden today.  She knocked

a few lilies over.  Then she went off to attack the apple tree.

She was in search of the best tasting apple.

Then she went to see if there were any ripe tomatoes in the garden.

We have not had one ripe tomato this season.  She ripped a few green

tomatoes off the plants and tested each one.  Yuck.  Too sour.

Here is Daisy inspecting the flower garden today.  Nothing to eat here!

The lake felt real nice yesterday!

Guess who had both little ducky plushies last night!  Monet!  Have a good

night.  I will be painting in Thuya Garden tomorrow!  I hope there is sun!

Good night!

August 16, 2014 Two More Chicken Paintings To See! New Duck Plushies For Monet and Poppy!

"Hungry Girls" 6x6 oil on copper.  Sold.  Thanks.

For dinner I ate:  banana split, turkey sausages, kale, and macaroni and cheese (in that order!)

I felt like painting more chickens last night!

"Beauty Contest" 6x6 oil on copper.  Sold.  Thanks.

Monet and Poppy received two little ducky plushies today.  I

made sure they were identical toys!  Monet was the most excited.

He just loves his plushies.  Poppy was still feeling hurt from the

previous toy gifting.  (her toy was not the blue dragon Monet received but

a stupid puzzle toy)   I had to coax her into the little ducky.

They each had a little ducky plushie in their mouth.  They

both tried to steal the other's toy.  Monet had both ducks. Then

Poppy had both ducks.  Then they each had their own duck.

They walked around very proud of their new toys.  Robert made

sure to squeal with excitement.  Daisy wagged her tail.  She doesn't

really care about little ducky plushies.  I think humans enjoy dog toys

just as much as the dogs.

I brought back a black feather I discovered while hiking on

Monhegan recently.  I knew the pups would just love the feather.

Poppy danced on her back legs with excitement.  Monet just wanted

to smell the feather.  Poppy chewed on the feather and tossed it around.

Here is a photo of the intense light in Schoodic Point.  This

is what I would call a 'retina burn painting'.  Have a great night!

I should go paint somewhere tomorrow!

We took all the pups to Sandy Point today.  They ran and swam!  Fun to watch.

Daisy barked at the cars today again.  I had her on a leash.  I have no doubt she would

have walked into the street again to bark at the cars and stop traffic.

I may start on a new series of goldens running and swimming on the beach!  I am inspired

by photos I took today of Poppy, Monet, and Daisy!  Have a good night.

August 14, 2014 Daisy Taught Me A Big Lesson Today! Daisy Stops Traffic On The Highway! New Chicken Painting!

"Pretty Lady Walking" 6x6 oil on copper sold. Thanks.

Today Daisy taught me a valuable lesson.  She is sleeping soundly by my feet as I type

this.  Everyday Daisy likes to sit outside on our porch.  She never goes into the busy street.

We trust her to stay on our side of the street.

We have felt safe letting her lay on the porch by herself.  This has been

a stupid thing to do.

You can never trust a dog to know safety.  Dogs are unpredictable.  If you want your dog

to stay alive do not leave the dog unattended outside even if it is in a fenced area.

I am lucky Daisy survived today!

I let her outside to sit on our porch.  Robert had left with the two younger

pups a half an hour before.  When he came back from walking the dogs, he could

see Daisy right in the middle of the highway in front of our home.  He called me.  I

ran outside.  Daisy had stopped all traffic.  She was barking at the cars.  She was standing

there turning around in circles barking at the cars.  I showed her the way back to our

house.  Then Robert crossed the street with our other two dogs.  My legs were shaking!

I felt so dumb.  Robert couldn't believe it either.  We decided to never do that again.

We took Daisy to the lake.

We wondered why Daisy had so much energy today?  Why had she ventured out

into the road?  Was it a senior doggy moment?  Was it the full moon?  Was it an extra

pain pill today?  Was it the donut hole treat's sugar buzz?  Was it Poppy's constant barking

and pacing in the house driving us all nuts?  Oh it was just our stupidity.  Daisy is safe.

We had a second chance today to enjoy our 14.6 year old dog.  We love

Daisy.  She has been so good.   We will be more careful with her.

Have a good night.  I hope you don't think we are too neglectful.  We do try very hard

to take care of our pups.

August 13, 2014 Daisy Meets Riley At The Lake And Terrorizes Him! New Work!

This is Riley, a one year old black lab.

Daisy could not chase after Riley.  Riley was running around her in circles.  Daisy

was lounging at him snapping.  Riley was trying not to get bit.  I was worried for

Riley's ears.  I explained to Riley's owner Daisy had a record of snipping chunks

off of puppy's ears.  The owner said they were just playing.  So I sat down and prayed

Daisy was not going to make Riley into a 'Van Gogh' dog.

Daisy had a grand time!  She was wagging her tail, hopping, and really excited.

Riley's owner was afraid Daisy would have a heart attack.  Daisy did fine!

They really enjoyed each other's company.

The blue dragons were played with today!

I took Monet and Poppy across the street for a walk!  They did well.

One of my painting  bothered me.  There was something about it.  Then I realized

there were two paintings!  I took out my tin snips!  Snip, snip, snip!

"Spruce, Lupines, and Daisies By The Sea" 5x5 oil on copper. sold.  thanks!

    I reworked the painting tonight.

"Eagle Sighting" 3x5 oil on copper.  gifted.

I worked on this painting too.  I worked on the water and added a very

small eagle in the distance!  I am much happier now!  Lammers quality control!

August 12, 2014 Schoodic Painting! Eagle Photos! More Lily Gouache Paintings!

"Schoodic Point" 4x5 oil on copper.  250$ framed in gold.  Shipped.

Today Peter and I drove to paint in Schoodic Point.  I decided to paint this stand of

spruce trees.  Peter took a backpack full of painting equipment down on the rocks to paint

a large scene.  The light was perfect.  We waited to see the sunset.  Then we waited to see

the moon.  The moon never came out!   We headed home.

"Hello Casablanca" 5x7 pen and ink with gouache.

Here are a few paintings I completed

in my garden today before Peter came over.  These take a lot of concentration.  Daisy

watched me.  I turned around to draw her.  She hid her head behind a brick wall.  I have

been drawing Daisy since she was 4.  She peaked her head out to see if I was still drawing her.

She says, "No more drawing me please!"   I continued with my lily paintings.

"Beautiful Casablanca" 5x7 pen and ink with gouache.  Sold.

"My Garden In August" 5x7 oil on copper.

We saw two different eagles today!

A seagull was harassing the eagle!

Here is a different eagle being harassed by another seagull.

This eagle was eating a fish!

I enjoyed watching this kingfisher bird fish.  Have a good night!

I drove to Castine to paint flowers.  I couldn't find the house I was

invited to paint at.  I did find a beautiful flower bed.

I decided to head home, relax, hang out with my pups, take Daisy to the lake,

and draw my own lilies!

I found a little bird sunning on a log.  He had his mouth open.  I wonder if he

was a baby bird?  Or just hot!

I decided to take Daisy to the lake!  She is such a good girl.  She was fishing today.

I sat on a rock and watched her.

Daisy was very tired on the way home.  She had a good time.

I am headed to Schoodic Point to paint tomorrow with my painter friend Peter.  We

are hoping to paint from 2pm on till sunset. Have a good night!  Let's paint!

August 10, 2014 Three Miniature Schoodic Point Paintings!

"Sailing Schoodic" 4x5 oil on copper sold.  Thanks.

Today I painted all over Schoodic Point.  What fun!  Beautiful summer day!

"Summer Time View Of Cadillac Mountain" 4x5 oil on copper.  sold.

I stopped at the Sullivan, Maine scenic overlook to paint the flowers, house, sea, trees,

and mountains.  It was great fun painting all the flowers.  I painted a bee collecting pollen too.

The lupines were in seed.  I decided to make a few of them bloom.

"Schoodic Summer" 4x5 oil on copper.  sold.

I saw a King Fisher bird fly down and catch a fish.  He sat on a rock.

In Florida this was my favorite bird.  They are elusive.

I read something I consider to be important in one of Jack White's books.  Jack wrote

an artist must be happy to paint happy paintings if they want to sell well.  Angry, jealous,

resentful, and all other negative emotions somehow sneak into the painting.  These angry

artists tend to paint angst paintings that do not sell.  I thought this information was so

interesting and true!  I am a very happy person for the most part.  I do think it shows

in my paintings.  I paint with brighter colors when I am very happy.

Monet and Poppy love to wipe their wet chins on my shirt sleeve after a drink.  How

nice.  I guess this is a sign of affection.

The last two photos are of the Schoodic fish shacks.  They are popular to paint.

I had never been to Winter Port before.  Winter Port has many great painting subjects.

The Great Mountain Pond Land Trust gate was open as I drove by!  I did a U-turn.

Here are a few photos.  There are many places to paint here too!

I am very grateful to live here in Maine.  There is so many beautiful scenes to

paint here!  I picked up 10 pounds of fresh Maine blueberries for Robert.  I gave

two handfuls of blueberries to Daisy.  She ate them quickly with a smiling eyes!

Have a good night!  Let's paint!

August 9, 2014 Daisy Meets Hazel, an elderly Golden, at the Lake! Beekeeping Duties!

Today at Lake Alamoosook, Daisy met Hazel, a 10 year old golden retriever.  Normally

Daisy charges other dogs, can show aggression, as she believes she is the alpha dog!  Hazel

was sweet.  She stood there looking at Daisy.  Daisy walked right up to her.  They touched

noses!

   Daisy liked Hazel.

Hazel's owners were putting in their boat.  They watched the two dogs smiling.

Once the boat was in the water, Hazel jumped in, and off they went across the lake!

Robert purchased two new packages of bees in May.  Today he was giving them

more water.  I asked him how much water the bees drink?  He said they drink a full

container of water per each hive once a day.  It is very hot here in Maine.

Here are a lot of worker bees.  They have a lot of honey.  Let's hope

they can survive through a Maine winter!

Robert took Monet and Poppy on a long hike after work.  Monet and Poppy

bark a lot once Robert has arrived home from work.  They are excited to see

him and hope to go outside!

I am rested up, finished my thank you notes, and will head out to paint

somewhere  tomorrow!  Have a good night.  Let's paint!

August 8, 2014 Night Painting On Monhegan Finished To See! More Monhegan Photos to Paint! Daisy Enjoys The Good Life! Monet and Poppy's New Toy!

"August Quarter Moon" 5x7 oil on copper.  Sold Thanks.

This painting and four other Monhegan paintings

will be shown today at the Camden Falls Gallery opening from 5pm-7pm.  They had a Camden

Plein Air Event this past week.  I was painting on Monhegan!  See you there.

So many people appreciated the Monhegan Island photos.  Here are a few more.

I always allow painters to paint my landscape photos as long as they rotate, flip, crop,

or change the image to create their own work of art!

Sometimes a fog bank rolls in creating a cold temperature.  You always

need a sweater close by...a real sweater...not made of cotton!  I always

bring a good wool sweater.

Here is the Trailing Yew, cost is 145$ per night including breakfast and dinner!  This

is the best place to stay on Monhegan.

I purchased this baby jogger with 16 inch galvanized wheels!  I

believe it is a schwin.  It holds an incredible about of weight and

can navigate Monhegan's rocky paths.  The handle is cushioned.

At Lobster Cove you might see Jamie Wyeth's home.  I hear he prefers to visit

the island when most tourists do not visit.  I did see him with two artists on Monhegan

for all the festivities.  He was wearing knickers and two different colored long socks!

People were talking about his attire.  Famous painters can wear creative clothing.

Many painters are working at Fish Beach.  Here is Frank.  Some

artists stay on Monhegan for many months to work during Summer

months when art collectors are there visiting.

   This is Monhegan's Main Street.

There has been a Canadian Snow Goose living on Monhegan.

I heard someone suggest he had been injured, recovered, and

decided Monhegan was a great place to live!

Swim Beach is one of my favorite places to paint!

Rusty, who lives on Monhegan year round creates this rope jelly fish.

Monet and Poppy loved it!

Here is Daisy having one of her many chicken and rice snacks.  She eats many of these

bowls a day!

After she finishes her chicken and rice, I take away her plate, and give her

a small cup of water.  It is very good to bring an elderly dog many cups of

water throughout the day.  Their mobility is not good.  Sometimes they

don't want to get up to get a drink.

Daisy was so excited to visit Lake Alamoosook!

She was so joyful!  She hopped!

She slowly laid down in the grass!

Daisy says, "This is the life!"   Have a good night.

August 7, 2014 Monhegan Island Photos!

Here are a few photos of Monhegan Island.  You can see the Coast Guard schooner

arriving!  People cheered!

Many people watched the schooner arrive from the lighthouse.  Two young men said

they swam from the wharf to Manana Island to see the schooner.  I asked them if the

water was cold.  They said they could feel a tingling sensation.

This is the most people I have seen on Monhegan.

Here I am painting in the shade of the museum by the lighthouse.

It was fun watching yachts, sailboats, and other boats arrive for the event.

One of the prettiest scenes on the island was Susan's flower garden.

There were many artists working all over Fish Beach and Swim Beach most days.

They were nice!

I really admired Ruth's feather hat.  Someone complimented her hat

and she replied, "You should have seen the beautiful fellows the feathers

came from."   Some of the feathers were a beautiful green and blue.

Schooner, a resident of Monhegan, was taking a stroll around the island by

himself.  I took a few photos of him.  He has been on the island since the first time

I visited Monhegan back in 2007.

It must be nice to be a dog who can walk around his own island without a leash

or a human to walk him.  Sometimes I have seen Schooner 'find' bagels sitting on rocks.

I have always wondered if the islanders leave treats for him to find.

I have painted this scene so many times.  Schooner adds so much to the scene!

A very young Golden Retriever was being carried around the island.  The

pup seemed very content with the arrangement.

I had a wonderful day cooking chicken and rice for Daisy, taking Daisy

to the lake, cleaning, food shopping, and purchasing a new computer so I will be able

to write when I am out of town!  I cleaned up my easel and turpenoid containers.

I am all ready to paint!  I am torn between painting a few great Monhegan

photos or painting in Camden tomorrow!  I guess the weather will dictate

where I will be.  Have a great night!  Let's paint!

August 6, 2014 Twelve New Monhegan Island Paintings To See!

I am back from painting on Monhegan for a week!  Here are my latest paintings!

"Swim Beach" 6x8 oil on copper.  Sold.  Thanks!

"Monhegan Harbor" 8x10 oil on copper.  Sold.  Thanks!

"August Quarter Moon" 5x7 oil on copper.  Sold.  Thanks.

This painting was painted this morning.  I memorized the scene last night!  I had to use

my memory to paint the colors of night using the drawing of the scene in front of me.

I learned how to do this a few nights ago by experimenting during the day and bringing

the painting back out right after twilight to see how correct I was.  I will do this more often.

"Good Night Fish Beach" 6x8 oil on copper.  Sold.  Thanks.

I started painting this painting during the day.  I took the painting back out, waited

for the proper time, then worked more to capture an authentic night look!

"Monhegan Quadricentennial Celebration" 6x8 oil on copper 450$.

The Coast Guard sailed their Schooner to Monhegan to help celebrate Monhegan's

Quadricentennial celebration of Captain John Smith's first visit in 1614.  I set up to paint

by the lighthouse.  Cannons were fired once the schooner

arrived.  Hundreds of people climbed to the lighthouse to see the schooner arrive.  It was

very exciting!  I drew out the schooner on a tiny piece of paper then painted it into my

painting.  This was a difficult painting to do.  So many tiny houses to paint!

"Monhegan Flower Garden" 10x10 oil on copper.  Sold!  Thanks!

I have been dreaming of painting holly hocks for 7 years since I first saw the flower

in South Port, Maine.  What a day painting in Susan's garden.  Thank you

Susan.

"Morning Light on Fish Beach" 6x8 oil on copper. sold.

"Lobster Cove" 6x8 oil on copper.  sold.

"Peaches of Monhegan" 6x8 oil on copper.  Sold.  Thank you.

The lady who owns this cottage was not happy with me painting it.  She said she

was going to charge me for painting it.  She then said she was going to stand behind

me and critic me while I painted.  She made her way behind me, she saw the painting,

and said, "Well I guess I can't critic your painting because it looks like you know what

you are doing."  I laughed.  I told her I painted her dog into the painting.  She looked.

She said the dog's name was Peaches.  She said I should put an eye on Peaches.  I told

her I would.  She was nice after that.  She didn't buy the painting.  I found another nice

man who liked the painting and purchased a few.  I like it when people buy multiple paintings.

It is very exciting!

"Monhegan Path" 6x8 oil on copper.  Sold.  Thanks!

It is always an honor when another artist purchases a painting.  In this case it was

an author and an artist couple!  I enjoyed their company and it was a great surprise this

morning when they bought this painting.

"Golden Sunset Over Manana" 5x7 oil on copper.  sold!

This was a very quick painting sketch done as the sunset!  I really loved the colors.

When I arrived in Port Clyde by the Monhegan Ferry, my Jamaican artist friend,

Ras Devon Anthony Husmo, called.  He had received his new aluminum 2.5 pound easel

and 20 pounds of acrylic paint I sent him!  He was so excited!  He said it was his birthday.

I probably won't go to Jamaica again this winter.  I might go to Florida

and visit my parents instead.  Please say a prayer for my Dad who has shingles.  Thanks.

The pups were very excited to see me!  Daisy hopped around.  Poppy talked.  Monet

grabbed my sleeve of my shirt and pulled me.  Frosty Paws dog ice cream for everyone!

Tomorrow I will show you photos of Monhegan!  Thank you for all the painting sales.

Good Night!
